Action Man #1
Jun 29, 2016 |
Action Man #1 is a fast and fun read. What this issue lacks in substance it makes up for in cool action sequences and a fairly interesting setup. If you're a fan of Barber and Villanelli's respective works from IDW, then you'll enjoy this book. |

Black Hammer #1
Jun 29, 2016 |
Lemire and Ormston do a great job of bringing this group of odd-ball characters to life, and they immediately make us root for them (or question their motivations). The writing and art are sharp and the setup is simple, yet intriguing. Black Hammer #1 is an amazing first issue and has all the potential in the world to become a great series. |

Conan: The Slayer #1

If you a fan of Conan or you just want a solid sword and sorcery yarn to tide you over this summer, Conan the Slayer #1 might just be a solid entry in your comic pull. It's fast, often funny, and thoroughly entertaining. |

Dark Souls: Legends of the Flame #1
Sep 14, 2016 |
Dark Souls: Legends of the Flame #1 is a serviceable issue. While none of the stories did much in the way to pique my interest in Dark Souls' lore, they were all clever enough to make me want to see what the creative teams have up their sleeves for the next installment. |

Evil Ernie: Godeater #1
Jul 29, 2016 |
Jordan and Worley have delivered a fun summer read, one that I hope gets crazier as it goes. While not all the jokes worked for me and the art felt"what's the word? Mushy. At times, Evil Ernie: Godeater #1 is a solid issue that knows exactly what it wants to be. Raise your devil horns, gang. Evil Ernie is back. |

Grizzly Shark #3
Jun 11, 2016 |
You should not pass on a comic like Grizzlyshark. It does scratch a certain reptilian brain itch that not many other books can get at. If you're a thirteen year old boy or have the ability to let the 13 year old boy inside you wield your comic-buying judgement, you'll enjoy every moment of Grizzlyshark. |

Image has delivered another solid issue of Island, and while I felt the back half of Island #8 was a little dragged down by "Habitat," it's still worth your money. |

Kim & Kim #1
Jul 7, 2016 |
There's no denying that Kim & Kim #1 is a fun, audacious, girl power comic loaded with great story beats and frenetic artwork. I don't know if this comic will be for everybody (but hell, what comic is?), but if want to go on an adventure that's part Lumberjanes and part Fear Agent (sorry, I hate describing a comic as a cross between two previous works, but this one has strong echoes of both aforementioned titles), this will be right up your alley. |

New Superman #1
Jul 16, 2016 |
Unfortunately, New Super-Man #1 doesn't make a big splash in its first issue. Perhaps in later issues the pace will pick up and maybe, just maybe this title can join the ranks of great comics that have come from other alter ego swaps and join the ranks with books like Totally Awesome Hulk, Spider-Gwen, and Mighty Thor. We'll just have to wait and see. |

Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens #1
Jul 6, 2016 |
Predator vs. Judge Dredd vs. Aliens #1 rules, you guys. If you are a fan of any of these three franchises that are about to clash in future issues, I highly recommend scooping this one up. The story and art are fantastic, and like a lot of previous "vs." comics from Dark Horse, there is a sense of fun and low stakes that make each page a joy to consume. |

Tales from the Darkside #1
Jun 14, 2016 |
If you're a fan of these two creators, or a fan of horror in general, I would highly recommend Tales from the Darkside #1. From the creepy, clever story Hill has woven to the stellar artwork of Rodriguez, there shouldn't be anything keeping you from scooping up your copy. |

Tales from the Darkside #2
Jul 23, 2016 |
This one was a bit of a letdown. While not a complete bust, Tales from the Darkside #2 didn't knock my socks off the way the inaugural issue did. I have confidence in this creative team, so I'm sure they'll turn this ship around (or at least steer it in the right direction). Maybe with Hill and Rodriguez I just set my standards too high. |

The Atoll #1
Jul 4, 2016 |
The Atoll #1 gives you a lot to chew on (another one!) and could be the makings of a really fun marine thriller that sits somewhere between the works of Ian Fleming and Peter Benchley. While the art didn't always work for me, the storytelling is solid enough to make me want more. |
