Alters #10

Feb 23, 2018

Aftershock markets itself saying "These are the comics you're looking for". If Alters #10 is any indication then perhaps more accurately we should say "These are the comics we need".

Archie's Superteens vs. Crusaders #1

Jul 5, 2018

Ultimately, I'm disappointed to say the book is not clever or complex enough for an adult to enjoy. A kid may like the action but it's probably not a wise marketing choice for a book aimed at kids since there are no other versions of these characters available except in some $1 back issue bins that date back decades.

Breathless #1

Jul 29, 2018

I hope the rest of the series plays out as well as the first two issues. If so, then this will be a book people should recommend not just to fans of old fashioned monster movie horror, but any fans of character driven action tales. Issue #3 was released June 27 and Issue #4 is scheduled for release August 22nd to be followed by the trade paperback on September 26th.

Brothers Dracul #1

Apr 18, 2018

The only regret I had with this single issue is that while it touched upon so many emotional threads and subplots, it was over too soon. Judging from the closing panel, the story just became more gruesome and intense. I will certainly be returning to this series as I hope this talented team will take the time to flesh out more of the back story before tossing us into the looming horror to come.

Bubba Ho-Tep and the Cosmic Blood-Suckers #1

Jun 1, 2018

I hope the rest of the series builds up and pays off as well as it was set up. If so, then, sales willing, I'll happily be waiting for the return of the King for more Bubba Ho-Tep adventures.

Clankillers #1

Jul 27, 2018

Overall it is an intriguing first issue that shows a great deal of potential even if it is a little uneven. The characters and premise well outweigh any flaws and if you enjoy historical fantasy this will be well work picking up.

Donald & Mickey: The Big Fat Flat Blot Plot #1

Mar 8, 2018

I'm not going to try and fool you into thinking this is some seminal piece of work you'll be talking about for years, but I am telling you this collection is a good time. Adults will have a laugh at the antics, children will find some excitement, and better yet you and your kid can sit down and enjoy it together, and what's better than that?

Dungeons & Dragons: Evil at Baldur's Gate #1

Apr 25, 2018

This is a really solid offering. DUNGEONS & DRAGONS: EVIL AT BALDUR'S GATE #1 is sure to please fans but also is a fun read for anyone who'd just like a light, enjoyable comic book. Plus it has Boo, the miniature-giant space hamster, and you're damn straight it gets a little extra added to its overall score for that.

Jeepers Creepers #1

Apr 21, 2018

I'm not sure whose decision it was to have the Creeper talk or add his potential origin. It very well may not be the core creative team, so I don't want to blame them, but this hurts the book for me. Still, it's not just me and hardcore Jeepers Creepers fans who this book or this review are written for. Many readers will likely enjoy issue #1, and I have no doubt the fun will ramp up as the series gets going.

My Little Pony: Legends of Magic #12

Apr 3, 2018

I wouldn't be a grumpy old man if I didn't have a complaint or two. I said earlier this was the series finale of Legends of Magic, but that's not quite true. Indeed, it was a lie! I was personally mislead and chose to continue the deception here for dramatic effect. The cover read finale but the last page states “concluded next month in My Little Pony Annual 2018”. This is presumably referring to the Legends of Magic annual 2018 advertised on the back cover. This small gripe aside I really liked this book and would recommend it. Sure if you're over thirty and reading this book in public I'll unfairly judge you, but what do you care? I'm just a grumpy old comic snob.

Rough Riders: Ride or Die #3

Apr 18, 2018

This is unquestionably one of the finest comic books being produced today, and you don't want to miss out. So do yourself a favor by treating yourself to Rough Riders. After all, life is short, and you deserve it.

Sheena: Queen of the Jungle (2017) #6

Feb 13, 2018

Sheena is still meant to be fun in a make believe version of the Amazon where daily survival is nothing to sneeze at even more so than the real Amazon! So, we should be thankful her beauty defeats the odds against her in every Dynamite issue and they gives us multiple sexy variant covers for our consideration.

Star Trek: The Next Generation: Terra Incognita #1

Aug 3, 2018

There have been hundreds of Star Trek comics printed in the last half century, many good and many bad. This issue is a great start and if it plays out as well as the premier issue, it will definitely be remembered as one of the better comic book stories.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Universe #20

Mar 22, 2018

Overall this is solid stuff that I wish was a bit more inviting. When I pick up a TMNT book I expect to be able to jump right in comfortably. It's also worth noting that it's a quick read despite the 2 stories and carries a high price tag for what it offers, leaving me to wonder if this isn't best suited to "trade waiting". Regardless though, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Universe #20 is sure to please fans.

Vampironica #1

Mar 9, 2018

Considering it's a concept that's been done so many times and that they had to put so much in place, I think they did about as good a job as you can expect. So without reservation I can say I truly believe that as this series goes on it will become one of the highlights of my month.

Xena: Warrior Princess (2018) #1

Feb 14, 2018

I can only suspect that with such a team up of these two ladies who attract drama like magnets, there will be plenty of swords, sandals, hi-jinx, and revelations to come with every future issue.
