I really liked the central conceit for this book, but it also suffers from not being able to spend much time elaborating on it. It's drawn well and provides some nods for genre fans, but honestly, I would wait and pick up the eventual trade of all of the Altered States books, or whatever collection this issue gets reprinted in if you want to check it out.

I was kind of worried that this series wouldn't have the same magic as Gillen's previous series tackling Odin's troublesome brood, but this issue has alleviated all of those worries by giving us more info on the story while strengthening characterizations and maintaining the super visual style from the first issue.

Overall, Brownfield and Baal deliver a decent first issue; it gives readers everything they could ask for. Fans of Dracula should enjoy the story and will hopefully check out the rest of the series.

I cannot recommend this as a good jumping on point for the Grimm Fairy Tales Wonderland books, but, if you're a fan, this is a pretty good first issue of this tie-in series.

I enjoyed this book. It has a good plot and story with an optimistic theme with good art. I do feel that it could have benefited by introducing and clarifying some of its ideas like the aforementioned librarians earlier and better, but it definitely tells an entertaining and engaging story that comes together in the end.

This was a fun, little book. It did what it needed to do for a first issue by giving you pretty much everything you need in terms of a plot with momentum and clearly defined characters. However, I could certainly see readers wanting a little bit more meat to the story to pique their interests. Marc Andreyko is a writer known forhis strong, interesting female characters, and Aneke has shown a lot of promise on Damsels and the final page of this issue. Giving this book and the rest of this series a shotwould bea decent bet.

Overall, I got a very Tom Sawyer with Aspergers vibe from this book. It felt similar to Image's Copperhead in some ways but without all of the sci-fi dressing. I hope it finds an audience and can deliver on its potential.

I think for fans of the X-Files this will be a fun special to pick up for the holidays. That said, more casual fans might enjoy the second story more for not having to worry too much about having an intimate knowledge of the characters for full enjoyment.

While this book may not be the best place to start for people looking to jump into the current IDW Transformers continuity, it is setup in such a way that they can still enjoy the ride with familiar characters and some beautifully drawn robots and fight scenes. The true strength of this comic is delving into the post war Cybertron civilization to see how hard it is for anyone to give up old grudges and see how bearing witnesses to such conflicts can affect them in the aftermath.

As for issue #8 specifically, it's the payoff and turning point for three, maybe four, of the book's major storylines. It's an integral part of an overall story that continues to intrigue and entice with every issue. Pick it up but not without the first seven issues as well.
