And that's what provides the real spark of interest here; while Marvels was all about the wonder that came from seeing superheroes through the eyes of the man on the street, this series looks to explore the back room decisions that shaped everything, the way the real power is held by men in suits in smoke-filled rooms. I often question the necessity of these trips to the past to explore yet another facet of fictional history, but maybe Ed Brubaker can breathe some life into the idea. Or maybe it will all turn out to be another starry-eyed paean to the awesomeness of superheroes, which might work for some, but is enough to put me to sleep. We'll see how it goes.
