Overall I really enjoyed Continuum and suggest that readers check it out. I think it is a great read in comics, and I think that if a feature film does get made it will make a great film as well.

On a technical level the art is excellent – especially for Black and White and I can say the same for the writing. There is a clear sense of chemistry between the characters in only a few pages and yet theres just enough down to earth dialogue that makes the reader feel as if they are experiencing the events themselves. Runners #1 is a great issue and I can speak no negative about it its fun, its creative and most importantly its unique. As long as the team continues going down the path theyre going (and not reverting to focusing on the Zombies), this series is going to go far VERY far.Runners-1.jpg (222 KB)

The story overall is compelling and on a more detailed writing level, Saga uses an excellent balance of dialogue and narration to help fill the issue full of information without feeling overwhelming. If you havent had a chance to pick up Saga #1 yet, do yourself a favor and get your hands on a copy of this I think this will be a title talked about for the rest of the year. Im sure once youve had a chance to read this issue, youll be as eager as I am for the next chapter in this Saga.

I must admit that I hadn't read Sky Pirates before now; however, that was no problem as this was really easy to get into. I enjoyed the story, enjoyed the art and if I had to find a flaw in it, it would be that I got to the end and was craving more.

Overall I was very impressed with Souled #1. I should note that although I did use the term “Science Fiction” in this review, this issue was also very full of action. I'm hoping the story continues going in the same direction as Issue 1 as it is a very enjoyable read.

The four stories in this issue are quite different from eachother and although I cant say all of them were my cup of tea, I will say that all of them have very creative and unique story lines. If you are a reader who is looking for some great indie work I would suggest that you pick this title up. For only a few dollars Earthbound Comics provides a variety types and stories which helps to make it a steal of a deal. postableEarthboundPresents1Cover.jpg (216 KB)

Overall, I found the story to be a solid read; however, I will admit that the middle of the book stopped me from giving this a 5/5 rating. As I was around halfway through I found that the story felt a little rough and seemed to drag a little bit as well. Although I found the problem only lasted a few pages, I did find myself almost putting down the book, which is definitely an issue to be noted. That being said, I still suggest you check out this book if you like musician stories.

Story wise " the first plot of this series has a definite ORIGINAL SERIES feel. Without getting too much into detail Kirk is found dealing with a crew mate (and a friend) who has developed symptoms that have given him what appear to be super natural powers. I'm hoping that IDW continues to go down the original series style path as I just can't see the crew in more diplomacy driven situation like much of later Star Trek plots were. The crew fit well in this first arc and this issue definitely has me hooked on the series. Now you may be wondering why I only gave this issue 4/5. The truth is that there are a few pages of setup that I found to be boring; however, I'm quite confident in Issue 2 we won't have that problem. Excellent story, excellent adaptation, excellent comic.

Overall, while I have been enjoying the new crew in action with Star Trek Ongoing, Issue 1 of Star Trek Legion of Superheroes edges out the series making it my new favourite Star Trek read its too bad Im getting on the boat just weeks after it wrapped up.

Overall I am very happy with the first issue of The Standard. The writing and art are equally good and the pace is almost perfect. I actually found myself thinking that I could see this comic turned into a movie. If I had to find a complaint though it would be that there is what seems to be an excessive use of the exclamation mark. That being said, its only a minor complaint and I am already a fan of THE STANDARD.

Technically speaking I think the book is well-written and the art is very good especially considering it is an indie black and white comic; however, for me the story just seemed a little too geared towards a younger audience. What I thought was going to my cup of tea ended up being coffee; however, that being said, Im quite certain that there are lots of coffee drinkers out there.fisk_cover.jpg (420 KB)

Overall I cant say I really enjoyed this read. The art was good at times, but at others felt out of place (for example the panel showing Carlins birth) the writing also felt odd. I cant say all bad things though as there were parts of the book I enjoyed. I also will fully admit that there were bits about George Carlin that I did learn from this book so I guess it did do its job. If you like biographical comics I think you probably will enjoy this read, otherwise I cant recommend.

As mentioned, there are some decent stories in this book; however, they just dont have enough time to blossom or establish a decent hook. That being said, I do suspect well be seeing some of these branch out in the future and if you want to get in on it early pick up GLoW #1 as Im sure youll find something that youll enjoy.
