Lara Croft is intent on saving her friend Sam Nishimura from the grip of the sun goddess Himiko. Trinity, the shadowy organization with ties to Lara's father, is after Sam for their own sinister reasons. Lucky for both of them, Sam is easy to find these days: she's leaving a path of destruction in her wake, on an international quest to fully sacrifice herself to Himiko. When everyone's paths converge, Lara finds herself facing off against both old friends and old enemies.

Tomb Raider at least moves along well here in the fact that it's almost all about the action and little beyond that, so it feels like it's moving forward. Of course, it's balanced with some awful moments where Sun Queen Sam chews a lot of scenery and just comes across as more comical than threatening or scary. I keep hoping for this book to click in some way but it never seems to be able to even though it's fully capable of telling some strong story material. Sevy's artwork is solid but that's really the only draw here and even that's stretching it. Read Full Review
