The Graphic Library - Sara Campbell
Sep 05, 2026Anyone familiar with Pilkey’s titles knows they are full of silliness but he has cracked the code on getting children excited about reading. There are some interesting choices about this manga, particularly that it’s read left to right like a Western graphic novel but the sound effects are left in Japanese Katakana with translations notes offered in the back (Pilkey explains they were integral to the art). Much of this version remains unchanged from the original, but Motojiro’s artistic interpretations may appeal to comics and manga readers with his extensive knowledge of panel composition, framing, and action sequencing. Overall, readers who love Pilkey will definitely be excited about this latest creation, and libraries will need multiple copies of the sturdiest binding they can find. Read Full Review
