It's a bit disgusting and overall too weird, since it's Marvel MAX (and Howard is the last character you'd expect to get an R-rated series), but... It's still better, than I expected. And it's only a beginning. I'm glad pretty much everything was already explained here without the unnecessary mysteries. Hm, the issue leaves me wondering what then could be the next 5 issues about. The R-rated content is used pretty moderately here, by the way, mostly for dirty or politically incorrect jokes. Honestly, it's not something I'd expect from Steve Gerber, either. The art is also pretty typical for Marvel Max: dirty and far from being cute in any sense, but I think it's okay.
