Erik Josten, the original Power Man, goes to Dr. Karl Malus to see if he can restore his power. Malus recreates Baron Zemo's process & also gives him Pym's growth serum. After telling Malus that he won't work for him, the new Goliath goes on a rampage in LA & is intercepted by Iron Man. With his new powers, Goliath easily defeats Iron Man & flings him into the Mojave Desert. Later, Iron Man agrees to team up with his fellow West Coast Avengers, Hawkeye & Wonder Man. Their initial confrontation with Goliath is a disaster, & they retreat. Deciding not to fight strength against strength, they use Hawkeye's magnesium flare arrows & Iron Man's ultrasonics to disorient Goliath. In response, Goliath grows to 200 feet then collapses, becoming comatose due to the strain on his body. Witnessing his fall, Malus pities Goliath for his failure after having so much potential for greatness. (Cover date: October, 1984) more
