Bold Riley - who has set out to find adventure in the lands beyond her home of Prakkalore - comes across a fragment of bone that shares a tale of lost love. Riley tries to reunite the lost spirit with its beloved, but soon discovers that all is not as it seems.
More importantly, I discovered that this comic is a mere sampling of a much richer set of Bold Riley stories available in a 232 page trade paperback illustrated by a host of wonderful artists. You can even download a free 67 page sample and give this book a “try before you buy”, and I'd heartily recommend giving it that free try. Full disclosure: I hadn't actually read any Bold Riley stories before I opened "The Talking Bone," but as soon as I finished it, I went and bought the graphic novel. "The Legend of Bold Riley" #1 offers everything I could want in an adventure story -- and all helmed by a queer woman of color. With a satisfying, simple ending and an ever-willing protagonist, it's a reminder of why popular old stories became popular in the first place. Read Full Review
