If Newman wasnt a strong writer, Dracula Cha Cha Cha could have succumbed to his ambitions. The inclusion of historical and borrowed fictional characters is difficult to do well, and at times toed the line on crossing over into the silly, but luckily doesnt stray far enough to interfere with enjoying the story. By reinterpreting the nature of vampires, the book also avoids many of the common pitfalls of the vampire genre; such as the tired and obnoxious perpetuation of vampires as these sado-masochistic sex symbols for sheltered soccer moms and preteens. Without a new Anno Dracula release since Cha Cha Cha was first published in 1998, the republished edition is sure to lead to interest in the rest of the series and should help built anticipation for Johnny Alucard.
