  "Dream of a Thousand Cats" will appeal to anyone who loved fables as a child, and remains one of the most popular stories in 'The Sandman' collection, even more than 20 years after its release. The short story is one of four featured in 'Dream Country,' each of which can be understood without having read the larger 'Sandman' series (although fans of 'Dream Country' may find themselves so impressed with these short stories that they want to read each volume): "Calliope," "A Midsummer Night's Dream," and "Faade."
