This exciting, original graphic novel explores the world of the Tommy Taylor novels in a visceral and direct way and is a great entry point for new readers. Twenty-five years ago Tom's father, Wilson Taylor, devised his subversive literary masterpiece. Now the blueprint of how a father gave his son vast power in order to accomplish a greater scheme is revealed. Partly told through Wilson's own journal entries, juxtaposed with Tommy's swashbuckling deep sea adventures with his trusty companions Peter and Sue, the story is at once a prequel and a parallel story to the ongoing series.

Skilled creators put together a fantastic pair of stories in The Unwritten: Tommy Taylor & the Ship That Sank Twice, one that I highly recommend to anyone who enjoys the fantasy genre or anything remotely similar to Harry Potter. It is an excellent introduction to the world Carey & Gross have created, and a very solid read. Read Full Review

However, it isnotas complex and thought-provoking as Volume 1 at its best. Whether this is a sign that Volume 2 will be dumbed-down or whether it is merely designed to lure new readers remains to be seen. For new readers, it is a very convenient entry-point to The Unwritten - although Volume 1 is tremendous, you needn't have read that first. Read Full Review
