    SciFiPulse - Ian Cullen Sep 16, 2023

A pretty solid story, which is obviously set a number of weeks before the events that we see in Star Wars: Return of the Jedi as Lando uses the same outfit to get into Jabba's palace than the one that he wore in the movie. It will be interesting to see how this all builds up to those events and what will happen once the story moves beyond Jedi. If indeed Marvel chooses to give us a look at these popular characters in the post Jedi world. Read Full Review

The Fandom Post - Chris Beveridge Sep 13, 2023

While I'm still very wary of the Dark Droids storyline overall, Soule is handling it pretty well in this series as we get more of a Lando/Lobot story at the moment and the droid material is secondary. And when utilized, it's not such a big abrupt and in your face kind of thing, instead leaning toward a bit more horror and tension. The trip to Tatooine makes sense in the context of how things have unfolded but the nod to Han is awkward as hell even if it is what will be used to nudge how they deal with it in the near future. The little moments work and the lighter bits with Lando and Lobot in the past – that wig! – provide the relief the darker parts of the story needs. Read Full Review

Given that this issue features a flashback in which Lobot is seen wearing a big, purple wig, it's clear that this series is leaning into the absurdity of the Dark Droids crossover event, even if other titles are taking things a bit more seriously. Read Full Review

The Comicbook Dispatch - StoryBabbler Sep 7, 2023

Star Wars #38 kicks off the next phase of the Dark Droids storyline as Lando goes to Jabba's Palace to find the droid he needs to help Lobot. Turns out that not even Jabba's Palace is safe from the new threat that's assimilating more and more droids by the second. The comic does a good job conveying a zombie-like story but with droids. There are plenty of callbacks and teases to the film Star Wars: Return of the Jedi, though it would've been nice if some moments actually led to more than just casual fan-service. However, the comic sets up a fun scenario that fans of the film will find exciting for the next issue. Read Full Review

Lando and Lobot arent out of the den of depravity that is Jabbas Palace yet. Seems like a really good time for Lando to plan Hans rescue, but first he needs to fix Lobot. Read Full Review

Musabekov offers some great art in the issue and the characters and locations look great. I wish the story were stronger to justify the beauty of the art. Read Full Review
