Might be confusing at the first read, so I'd suggest immediately reread it. I love how the villains show up here much more than the Batman itself, really fleshing the story and the whole conflict.

Batman #27

Released: Jul 19, 2017

"THE WAR OF THE JOKES AND RIDDLES" part three! The war has spread to every corner of Gotham City, and while Batman battles back the forces of Joker and Riddler, an unlikely criminal becomes the pivotal key to its potential resolution... but it could cost him everything.

While it doesn't really feel so, this issue marks the end of the first book of this series. There are a lot of seeds planted for the future here, as well as plenty explanation of what's happening in this world. This issue was, as always, very well written. And there's quite a few graphical scenes - I even had double checked if this book still doesn't have a mature rating. Altogether, I am really e more

Snyder is setting himself up to play to his strong suit which is mystery and horror. The evil versions of bastardized Batmen with other members of the JL seem to be waiting in the corner ready to haunt the nightmares of small children. There are interesting things at play here (Miracle Machine, Anti-Monitor tower thingy from Infinite Crisis) with many characters showing up seemingly out of nowhere more

This was a huge step back from the previous issue. First we have a few pages basically retelling some stuff from Secret Empire, and then after that the story becomes stale. While the art wasn't as good as in the previous issue, it is still miles beyond the one we usually get. The story is moving forward, but it seems we keep getting more questions than the answers. I remember reading an interview with Abnett a while ago and he said that it will all be tied up eventually, so I am hoping for that sometime soon-ish.

Tom King delivered a very strong continuation to the previous issue. For a Batman book, the titular character does not appear much here. However, I am loving how the whole conflict is building up. And while some may disagree with me, Janin's art really works here with the cinematic double page splits.
