Absolute Power (2024): Ground Zero #1

Aug 27, 2025

I'm sorry I just can't waste my time with this anymore. This Absolute Power event is overdone and it's nothing deep. You wasted issues of Superman and Wonder Woman for this? God... I usually can read through some crap but you know I just value my time right now...

So going back to Action Comics, kind of a weird start here or me but not bad. I would say if anything Metallo saved my interest and kept me reading on. The book says it is good for new readers and this is somewhat true, however where this fails is the comic does not really introduce the new characters or who is who. It took me a bit to figure out who Iron's daughter was, which character was Superboy or Superman's son Jon (which btw what do we call his son, Superson?!) And we have these two kids that Superman adopted who are "refugees" from war world. One thing I notice in modern media and comics you see the word refugees thrown around a lot I wonder why... Besides that boring modern day political trite, you also have the other re-used political modern day trite of a movement of people who "hate aliens". Fake and g*y. In this comic they call these people the "Blue Earthers", and the Blue Earthers are protesting Super aliens from taking over the world and hate Superman and ilk. This is one theme I wish to be eradicated for a while in comics, who the f*ck wants to see protesting in our comics, too much of this in comic movies too. Like yes people protest but honestly is it the majority of people? I've only been to one and found it to be a complete waste of time and I think most people do also, so this brings the question here who are the writers appeasing to with this repeated nonsense? Anyway the story shows more of the Super family, for me I know who Supergirl is, Superboy, Jon, but didn't know who Kenan was, and I didn't realize the metal girl was Steel's daughter. At first when I saw her in her metal form I was like who is this robot chick? And Kenan is literally called the "Superman of China". Like I said I was out of the loop of comics for a while and found this too be the goofiest thing I've ever heard of. I mean you same writers who removed the classic "Truth, Justice and the American way" for your "there is no Nation or borders bull", you let the Chinese Superman keep his nation's name? Double standard much?! Besides that however it is goofy because you never call our boy Supes, "Superman of America". I don't care if you have a superpowered Chinese guy, but you could have come up with a better name, and the Yin-yang design as his logo? Man you guys are fu**king shallow, I guess you think everyone in China is some kind of Xiolin Showdown cartoon character? So in the story you got this building by Steelworks being erected and Lex Luthor sends Metallo to blow it up during the celebration. The Super family was there as guards I guess, and I won't lie when you go to the panel where the Super family is flying over the protestors during the celebration, the Super family looks ominous, they look like villains lording over the peasant humans. It's not just because of the angle the artist chose, but I think the design choices and color of their costumes does the Super family a disservice. I mean Superboy, Jon and Kenan are mostly covered in black and red secondary. Kara is mostly red, black and jut has blue pants. The new twins have blue on one's chest and the other on the arms, but the rest is red and black. Why is are they wearing jet black colors at all, this doesn't give me good guy vibes, this is more like I don;t know The Boys or some kind of Garth Ennis wet dream. So not a great start but the only hook was Metallo showing up at the end ready to fight Superman, and thank god Superman still looks like Superman.

First, the art is 100 times better than last ish here. There's this subtle grit and heavy pounding violence that seeps through he panels and I love that. We start right away with Superman and Metallo beating he sh*t out of each other, and Sups freezes and sends Metallo out to space to get a breather. After that we get some boring stuff about the refugees living with the Super family and they do "cute" things ad are suppose to be funny for you to like them. They're okay nothing to write home about. Metallo floats in space and is talkingto his sister Tracy who is in trouble and is telling him to save her. Clearly this is not Tracy and some other villain controlling Metallo. This is foreshadowed obvously when Clark as talking about the War world refugees use of the word "unmade", and that Metallo's body looked like the "unmade" they encountered in war world. The unmade are warriors who die, brought back to life with new parts to fight again and so on, D & D necromancy stuff. Metallo kidnaps some Blue Earther protestors and turns them into robots to help him fight the SUperfamily. Nothing special here, kind of going with the motion.

You see the cover for this ish? Man would I love a series of Superman in that kind of style. Still the art in the issue itself is still good like #2, gritty, inky, etc. There's less talky talk which is good for me and more action, and I have no problem with large amounts of dialogue if it's interesting and progresses the story but the last couple issues just felt like exposition. We find out here that Lex has nothing to do wit Metallo's new freakish body transformation. We see Metallo getting more freakish and resembling a Strogg from the Quake videogames which I really dig. I say Metallo continues to steal the show of this story. My biggest gripe wit this issue has to be with what the writers do with Jon (Superman's son). Clark and Louis are leaving the Super family apartment and as Clark is changing into his Daily Plnet attire at super sped Jon ask his father "I've been thinking about the old house, when things calm down a little bit... Would you want to play coneyball sometime?" Superman responds "Aw pal, I would love that! I was afraid you'dgotten too big for it! Let's take a weekend at the farm soon! We can show Otho and Osul How to play too." Jon is shown to be sad, and clearly feels like he is being forgotten in place of the two "refugee" kids. Even one of the kids later on ask Jon "Do you hate us?" And he says no of course. The panels go on and show Jon get over it and realize he shouldn't feel that way but the writing gets real hokey on this problem next issue. I felt this too be really odd, Jon here looks like he is close to 18 atleast. Getting jealous over a couple of kids seemed like a cheap subplot and frankly we could have done without this.

Art improved and I really have noting bad to say here. This has some great violence and really sows off Metallo and Superman going at it again. We come to find out here who is manipulating Metallo and it turns out to be Cyborg Superman. I personally don't know the history of this character but he seems pretty badass.

Finally back at the main story here (not that the fillers and anthologies were terrible) but this was a strong start and a good little intro of Norah Stone and who she is. I have a feeling she is on a crusade against meta-humana because a meta-human killed someone she loved or family. She has a reason and this issue got me more curious just like how I felt when they first revealed her iat the end of ish #1056. I like how she tells Clark at the end of their tense interview that "this is my world too", many of her counter points to Clark in the interview were actually logical and she made a lot of sense. I'm sure she is going to be a full on villain because you know the modern progressive narratives of "hate speech" and being "xenophobic" to "refugees". But I hope as this story goes Norah Stone is not so one dimensional and has more depth than what I'm expecting. Otherwise great ish

I want to like these Action comics but it's difficult. The Superfamily doesn't have anything here that really stands out and I find myself having a hard time reading through the dialogue here. I can handle comics with multiple characters like Avengers but this isn't doing so well in my book. This story still is too scattered and seems to have trouble saying focused.

OMG. JUST. YES!!! Now this is what I'm talking about! Right away this art looks phenomenal, and the dialogue is coherent and well placed unlike previous issues. I read this like a slow build up of great anticipation. What really got me into this was when Supes figured out that Norah Stone is really an Al-Ghul from the Dark Multiverse. So that's why they put The Authority Special #1 in the TPB. I'm so happy theyre doing more with the Al-Ghul dark universe. Oh man I'm telling you when this reveal happened I was literally giddy, it was worth reading through mostly shitty Action Comics just for this moment and again I hope the art says like this for this part of the story. I knew this new character Norah was more than it looked. Only beef is when she brought Ortho into her dark universe I'm a bit sad the artist didn't choose to depict it in the weird abstract way it was shown in the Special that was really unique for me, but I'm not deducting any points for that because this artist is amazing....

This is so good thank God this got better. This art by Eddy Barrows and the others is perfection. I really took my time to enjoy and breath it all in. Each character looks distinct and unique compared to the crappy art of the issues I've been criticizing. Bruce's evil daughter is so damn cool, some of the coolest stuff where she is talking to Otho about her plan to take over Earth 0. I love the evil Batman armies behind her it looks so sick. And when Supes asked Constantine for help in the back of my mind I was hoping Etrigan would show up and guess what my wish was granted and I was so happy to see Etrigan. So happy to read this now because before Everytime I had to force myself to keep reading Action Comics but now I can't wait to jump to the next one as soon as I press enter to submit this review...

While I'm a little sad to lose the Super family I was just starting to get into this is undeniably really good stuff here. First each page the line work and color is meticulous and frankly iconic. Superman looks good in every panel. The story feels tight and more focused than previous run now that it's just about the world under Bizarro and it's literally witnessing the end of civilization by willing suicide with a smile. Best part is who Supes teams up with at the end, Bizarro had reverse effect on the Joker making him the most sane man. This is brilliant and can't wait to read on...

Artist Sandoval really upped his game by a thousand in this issue! I'm so happy to see the Superfamily back in action and that Brainiac is out unleashing chaos with Lobos people of Czarina. Brainiac manages to capture every super powered person except Superman thanks to Les jumping in the way. Not sure what Brainiac new plan is but I'm looking forward to reading next ish.

10
Action Comics (2016) #1065

Aug 24, 2025

Still solid run here, this is really building up to what is going on with Brainiac. Lobo and Superman are going to face off next ish because General Chacal challenged Lobo to be the "the boss". Supergirl and Conner are off after escaping their pods and tr ying to figure out what's going on, Kara ends up caught and takes Lex down with her to find out what he knows. Art is really good here.

10
Action Comics (2016) #1066

Where to begin? So Brainiac has a 12th level intelligence body that can only house so much knowledge and information. He's been creating a House of Brainiac to store this information into multiple bodies. It's not only storing this information that proved to be a problem for him. He needed something with unlimited brain power to process the information, this being why he needed Lex's daughter Lena for this. Lobo survived the mass murder of his people from the Queen Brainiac and managed to free the Superfamily and start an all-out battle against the Brainiac family. While this was going on Brainiac hooks Lena up to his system and is ready to use her up till she dies. Supergirl shows up with Lex and he explains that he's been working with Brainiac to protect Lena. But while he was with Brainiac he made a back program to defeat Brainiac. He has this sick helmet that he puts on to connect his brain to the hive mind. After the main issue ends we get a bonus story showing Lena and Lex in the hive mind working together. We also get some tidbits on their father and daughter history, how Lex became a better man, but sent her off to live with her grandmother because he felt he didn't deserve her. The bonus ends beautifully with a panel of both Lena and Lex hooked up to the machines holding hands ready to destroy the hive mind.

A 10 for Simone and Barrow's main, a 0 for the disgusting feminist bonus story. I enjoyed this, Simone's writing and Barrow's artwork is a great combination that makes this ish feel like an older comic. I like how the setting seems to be set in the 70s roughly with the clothing styles, hair styles etc. The story is nothing special but the simplicity of this is refreshing after reading the latest lackluster DBZ-esque Superman comics. The bonus story is garbage, Lois being editor in chief ends up treating Clark like shit. Giving an intern a scoop before him and calling him a conflict of interest just for being himself pretty much. Honestly if anyone should have become an editor should be Clark it makes more sense. He would be less bound to chasing stories, can edit super speed and focus more of his time as Superman. But you know girl boss and putting men down in their place and all that mean shit. What do you expect from a writer who goes by Rainbow Rowell 🌈 Eat shit

Same as before 7.5 for main story by Simone and Barrow, 0 for the bonus story by Rainbow Turd 💩 Simone lost a little steam in this ish but Barrow's really pumped out plenty of great panels as usual. I like his classic style. I would say the worst moment was when Superman had to face his last 3 second challenge that put 15+ million people at risk of annihilation, Lois gave him a speech on why she became a reporter and it was so basic and lame. "It's not for fame. I know people think that. It was because everywhere I looked there was a problem I couldn't do anything about. Crime, malfeasance, hunger, disease, war, inequality." And that was enough to inspire Superman.Idk seemed like a very by the book kind of answer and took me out of the moment. Lastly the bonus story continues Lois's campaign to emasculate her husband Clark and sending him to do obituaries and dumb stories wasting his talent for some fat intern and of course to girl boss. He clearly seems to be pissed off justifiably so but I still don't like this unnecessary divide between Lois and Clark. It feels like she is treating him like a bitch and putting him in his place. If Clark was editor I don't picture him treating Lois is such a disrespectful manner like this. Disgusting.

I must be stupid because I was left scratching my head at the end of this ish. Yeah the Keenan segment is retarded and unnecessary. Aethyr is pretty cool, I was enjoying the Krypton sequence the most and loved the part where Jor El and Lara talked shit to Rozan. I liked seeing Supergirl show up as a kid acting bratty and Clark laughing about it to himself. But I got ripped from any immersion when the comic went from that to showing Lois and Jimmy in the Daily Planet office talking about "climate change reversing". Lois dramatically looks out and the comic showed the sun being sucked up or something I have no idea how we jumped from Krypton to that it makes no sense at all what is going on?

Not as bad but I guess the only big thing we learned from Supermans visit to past Krypton was the the Phantom Zone being used as a prison wasn't his father's idea. And also Zor is a huge d*ck fink, glad he didn't survive Krypton's destruction lmao. That's already the end of the Krypton story and the Keenan side story is gay. Keenan and Superboy should just get a room and f**k already, and Superboy didn't beat the Admiral Khund to command his Khund army, he probably blew him or something to get to wear his coat.

So Aethyr dies from an over inflated ego and getting to many likes on his Instagram and also gaining a huge fan base on his Aethyr OnlyFans account. Jokes aside literally he keeps growing in mass and just blows up and literally is becoming to fat (gaining to much mass) that he is creating his own gravity that will threaten everyone else. So Aethyr becomes a Peter Griffin joke. This whole Mark Waid Action comics run should just be a Family Guy Cutaway Gag, that would make more sense than having to take any of this seriously....

Reluctant to give this a better score than 2 that I've given previous issues but this was less frustrating and annoying to read through. Maybe it's the art it's too simple and too cartoon but I like the simplicity. The colors pop out real nice and the simple line work makes reading the rather horrible story more bearable. But this whole Phantom Zone breakout feels unoriginal, rushed, and with so many heroes in this comic showing up it falls flat. I mean Dr. Light shows up which is pretty cool idea but it's only like one or two pages. Superman getting almost killed by a gang of Phantom Zoners in the heart of the zone only to be saved by Mon on time was pretty nice. But Waid is not living up to his rep in this Superman run I've seen better from him.

Wow an Action Comic that was actually pretty solid, not perfect but you know after those last 10 or so trash issues this deserves a 9 just for changing the direction. What I really appreciate about this issue was it's focus on Clark Kent this time around. We've had a lot of Superman the last few arcs so it's refreshing to see Clark going around doing some old fashioned journalism. The beautiful inky and heavy art of Inaki Miranada doesn't hurt this ish either! So this ish goes back and refers to an issue all the way back to the late 700'snwhen Superman made Major Disaster turn good... But here he's caught trying to rob a bank and accidentally murders someone in the process, as soon as Superman shows up though Paul (Disaster) surrender no fight. As Clark he goes to other villains turned good like Mighty Bruce and Aubrey Sparks (Scorch). Both have similar explanations that most metas still have to live regular lives and some just can't stay on the straight and narrow facing normal problems your average Joe faces with the addition and extra temptation of having super powers in the first place. Clark wants this answer to be beyond a "it's society's fault" kind of answer to Paul falling back on crime, but is finding no other conclusive answers to this betrayal of his trust as Superman. The dialogue is meaty and feels like a good old fashioned talkey comic which I like when done right like this. It ends with Clark getting attacked and somehow actually getting cut and KO'd by a mysterious figure. Whoever did this has to know Clark is Superman and used a weapon capable of doing damage.

I enjoyed this ish as much as 1082. I like the dialogue and feel like the panels flow nice. It's not a complicated story but it's good and I like the side characters like Scorch too. And Manheim being the culprit behind all of this buying off Paul and others to steal there "telemeres" which are used to make others stay young and live longer. The only catch is those who lose these telemeres lose their life time and feel there time shortened, getting side effects of hopelessness and emptinnesss.

8.5
Action Comics (2016) #1084

Aug 30, 2025

I would give this a higher score but the Forevers was a joke like the ish could have gone without them and just have Manheim selling telemeres to random rich people seeking mortality because the whole Forevers fight and panels were just gid awful and silly. But I'm keeping a decently high score because otherwise the rest of the story was really good for me. We find out that Paul was innocent and didn't kill Bokyn, it was his daughter Penny who killed the man. Paul took the hit for her to make up for all the bad he did as her father. I liked how this even refers back to Harley Quinn (2018) #54, pretty sure that was the Sam Humprhies run? I enjoyed the dialogue and the little twist nothing ground breaking or epic but a damn fine read. Superman is conflicted about this but he leaves Paul in jail and lets things flow. He talks to Lois about it and they have a nice tit for tat. I like how Lois in these issues boost her man up and tries to keep him grounded instead of trying to tear him down like in those horrible bonus stories by Rainbow Rowell during the Gail Simone runs.

If your looking for something fresh, different or interesting don't look here. This is a coming of age story done a million times over. Unless you have absolutely no background in reading literature or comics than maybe you will enjoy this otherwise it's a walking cliche as predictable as the cycle of the day. And why the hell didn't he use his freeze breath on the fire in the school? Instead he took a water tower that he even says "a farm town like this needs" and waste it all on the school. When all the kids escaped all he had to do was ice breath or anything else but that. Waids writing feels like he's under a gun and is unable to come up with anything really solid or genuinely enticing that one can add to the Superman mythos.

I just have no patience at this point for Waids writing. His last arc really gave me a bad impression and this isn't doing any better here. The art is nothing to write home about and feels mostly devoid of any soul. I don't even care about anyone in here. Let alone Clark himself here, he comes off as generic and has nothing interesting going for him except the overly done "struggling teenager" persona we've seen countless times at this point in comics but not even done well here... And Captain Comet? Dial the 🌽 cornball writing by a 1000x, what a dumb character to put into the development of Supermans youth. Oh and also in this ish a horde of locust show up and Clark uses his freeze breath in one panel so like I said in previous ish why didn't he just use his freeze breath on the fire? Emphasis on the emptiness of soul, every character just says the most uninteresting sh*t and it comes off like a corporate pamphlet about how "were all one big happy family". Congrats 🎉 if you enjoyed this but you would have to deprive me of any good comics for a millennia to ever get me to say any of this was worth my time.

Action Comics Vol. 2: To Hell And Back

Aug 14, 2025

Okay so getting the negative out of the way this TPB is misleading and does not have any of the main Action Comics issues, just short back stories. Not that there's anything wrong with little stories like these but looking through Amazon and the DC website this TPB is still described as containing full main issues. Guess at the time DC was trying to double dip Idk what they gained from lying? Maybe they didn't think people would buy it if they st Right up said it was an anthologies book with stories set around the time of the current run? Best part of this is Doomsday Special hands down. I deducted five points for the deception on DCs part but kept 5 because I actually liked some of the light hearted stories. The stories got me to like Ortho and Orsul however you say their names the Warworld orphans. I also don't mind the Chinese Superman Kenan he's kind of funny in this especially that he's friend with a fat Chinese Batman. I liked how Conner is romantically involved with Me'ghan Martian Manhunter's niece if I recall? I remember liking this relationship dynamic in the Young Justice series I watched a while back. Although I hope to God Conner gets rid of his dyed red hair, please have mercy that stays contained in this shit little anthology book please. The worst of this was Superman's son Jon Kent. This should have been the best but it was f***ing fake and g*y. It was so f*they and cringey I barely made it past two pages when "Jay" first showed his stupid face and disgusting punk hair. I forgot they did this to Jon and found myself disgusted and some of my enthusiasm sucked away pun intended. And no I don't care if a character is g*y, but frankly why Superman's son? Besides that point, the way it was done was so girly and fruity, it was hard to watch. Read Brett Easton Ellis, he will explain why this accepted Hollywood g*y type just doesn't work and comes off fake. Why do the guys have to act like girls? Aren't there guys who are gay and still Idk, manly? So if it's going to be a Supermans son who has the potential strength of his father, acting like a fruitcake to fit the mainstream media accepted version of homosexuality just doesn't fit in this world here. Lastly I stopped reading at Knight Terrors that was just bland stupid horror crap I didn't want to waste my time on, finally onto the actual Action comics thank you...

Aug 19, 2025

Wow all that build up on who was Norah Stone and that amazing reveal that connects it all back to the phenomenal Authority Special #1, and you guys end it all in this shit annual? This should have never happened like this. the Al-Ghul concept should have lasted way longer through more issues, I think Sister Shadow has way more potential than what this annual delivered pathetically. This was so bad and there I was for a second falling in love with this mediocre series making a big turn around... What a shame, Sister Shadow deserved more and could have been the coolest villain. I mean I'm glad when she is defeated she says "I'm not done yet" so hopefully if she returns in the future someone will do something better with her than this...

Action Comics (2016): Doomsday Special

Aug 14, 2025

Now this was f***ing awesome, Doomsday really is legendary and not even hell can quell his ridiculous power levels. Supergirl and Martian Man Hunter make a deal with the devil to help defeat Doomsday in front of every one in hell so Lucifer doesn't lose his place as well the devil. He gives Supergirl a fiendish warrior armor that was made to help the devil one day fight against God and heaven. Of course Supergirl dumps the armor as soon as her objective in defeating Doomsday with Martian Man Hunter works, because the goal was really just to keep Doomsday from escaping from hell and coming back to earth. This of course is kicking down the can because Doomsday will just keep getting stronger in hell and eventually be a bigger problem in the far future. Great art, great action.

This was where ASM started losing me. Judgement Day Axe, totally lame, especially after the Tombstone arc which was really good. Even the issue that had the throwback to the robot from the old ASM issues was really good, alo the Vulture issue was cool!. The next few issues on ASM after this one were good, not great. Then I threw in the towel after issue #14 with the Dark Web crap. But this is where ASM 2022 started to decline for me.....

HOT GARBAGE! GOOD-BYE SPIDEY IT WAS NICE KNOWIN' YA! I think I'll check out Spider-man once they drop this Dark Web trash. As of now, I'm done with ASM. Collected up to this issue and I'm just sick of it, lackluster, no story at all. Sorry, it sucks. Better comics are out there that actually still have talented writers and care about story, so I'll put my hard earned money toward that. Total let down especially with the first 5 issues being much better (Though that is not saying much). This pile of dog poop is unreadable, forgettable gibberish, I did not even finish reading it. BORING. DULL. LAME. UNIMAGINATIVE. It all went down hill since the Axe Judgement day stuck it's nose in ASM and ruined the pace. Dark web not only ruins the pace, it pisses all over any enthusiasm one may have over Spider-man right now. Bye bye for now Spidey, but for now if I get a Spidey itch, I'll fare better reading the old ASM issues I have. This new rendition does Spider-man no justice at all!!!

Really, are we really salivating out the mouth for this? I understand why people are excited for this new run. No more Zeb Wells, now we can start fresh. Well not exactly. Starting this issue the first panel was striking and really popped out but the dialogue in the action panel was so disjointed and lame I had to look it over a couple times to really find the flow. Which there wasn't any flow at all no matter how hard one tries. Going on, it seems like a step up that we are now reading from Peter's perspective but it feels to fast paced and rushed and when the moment Doctor Doom comes in the impact is not what it should be. It all just comes off kind of schizophrenic. SPOILER When Peter becomes like Doctor Strange or whatever Doctor Doom turned him into so Spider-Man can fight the forgettable generic demon thing, Peter has to die each time and when he dies for the first time being sucked into the black hole of the demons mouth it was just. Dumb. Even explaining this moment for this poor humble reviewer here has deduced some IQ points. Like it was something you would come up with when talking to your goofy friends when you use to be in middle school. When your a middle schooler at that time maybe that idea sounded really epic bruh, but on paper its just stupid. Maybe the lack of build up toward Peter's horrifying black hole death is what ruins the moment maybe? After finishing this the same feeling came over me like when I finished #6 of the Zeb Wells run. But at least I enjoyed the first 5 issues, until it quickly got scrapped and it went downhill from there as we all know. Yet here we are a new start and already I am so underwhelmed and feel like there is no thought to this. It just feels like pulling out so many tricks at once you see through the illusion right away. I don't care if people don't like what this review says who will actually read it? But if you even go far back too those old comics even to the very beginning of Spidey's existence, even with some of the silliness it all made sense to a degree. This is just bad. Only giving it a 5.5 because I don't want to be to harsh for the new start but not liking its direction.... Screw you I could give it a 2 but at least the art is nice...

Just no. I did a pretty good write up on the previous issue giving it a 5.5. This issue doesn't even deserve an explanation on why it is receiving a low score from me. Amazing Spider-Man is dead. This was nothing but the Demon Cyrios dragging Peter through all of his tragic 'member moments throughout his life. The dialogue was even worse than the previous issue, no improvement at all. Was willing to give it another chance but I'm dropping ASM for good. I lasted 14 issues with Zeb Wells, this lasted me by issue #3. And I mean for good... Not a single line of dialogue stuck with me, it all went out one ear and out the other, not a single panel had a decent action drawing or just good drawing at all. The best part about this comic was page 12 or 13 where Peter fools Cyrios punches her down the floor, and she is shown laying down in a sexy position wearing lingerie with her ass pointing right at the reader, no joke. Amazing Spider-Man is dead, your all just fondling it's corpse at this point and I refuse to support this trash.

Aquaman: Time and Tide (1993) #1

Aug 31, 2025

So the only Aquaman comics I've read a couple years back were in the DC Showcase Volumes, so that was real silver age stuff. I watched Aquaman with Jason Mamoa tonight for the millionth time on a 4k Blu-ray though for the first time and loved it even more. I recall reading the silver age comics because of the Aquaman movie I watched on Blu-ray at that time. Tonight I absolutely was immersed in the films bombastic unapologetically over the top world. A far cry from the themes and seriousness of the Snyder films since this was directed by James Wan but honestly I'm happy this turned out this way. The Aquaman movie is great and Momoa looked fantastic and every shot by Wan is spectacular. The use of the water effects and the overall sound design is unbeatable and it shocks me how most people sh*t on this film then and even now, while praising shallow movies like FF and Superman 2025 that have some of the worst cinematography and use of space I've seen in the superhero genre. Well I finally decided to dive into my Aquaman Peter David collection I collected, I have the first two tpbs than the rest in issues. TPB starts with the mini series Time and Tide and starts Curry over. Writing in his diary he explains how his mother Atlanna he believes was insane, and the stories she would tell of his lineage were the babblings of a madwoman. He then recollects about the first time he was called hero and we go back to when he was discovered in this version by the Flash during one of the Flash's run ins with the trickster. The Flash goes unconscious and almost gets eaten by sharks but Aquaman speaks to them on time. At this point Arthur lives in a dark cave and is more creature than man. The Flash convinces him to give the surface a try, and Arthur is really grouchy and has no patience with humans in this ish. Already the writing is solid here.

Aquaman: Time and Tide (1993) #2

Aug 31, 2025

Wow this was really well done this ish! It starts off with a Japanese ship hunting dolphins with tuna nets and Aquaman describes the horrible experience the dolphins go through during their capture. A baby dolphin when it is born immediately jumps out of the water to breath fresh air. However the moment it is caught by a net sometimes it chooses to stop breathing essentially committing suicide. The mother dolphin and the baby are thrown into the ship struggling for life and the Japanese crewman is about to end their lives and Aquaman stops it right on time. He then goes on while writing up in his book why he feels he owes his life to the dolphins. King Travis of Atlantis abandoned Arthur as a baby and left him on Mercy reef. Atlantean babies only able to breathe in water would lay in the water and eventually the water of the reef would recede and the air would suffocate the baby. This didn't kill Arthur being that he is half Atlantean and half human. A female dolphin found him and had a baby dolphin named Drin. Prome the mother was scorned by the lead Dolphin but she convinced the pack to hold onto the defenseless human baby. Like Tarzan raised y apes or Romulus by wolves this was a brilliant and beautifully rendered myth come to life on these pages. We watch Arthur grow up with these dolphins barely surviving and barely fed until he adapts. He slowly learns if his super strength from a near death with a shark that tried to kill a female dolphin named Nera. And yeah he falls in love with her but he is told she is not for him and the dolphins help him discover other humans. One day Drin and Arthur are pestering each other and Drin accidentally jumped onto the blades of a boat and dies. Arthur refuses to leave his body to the sharks but Prom makes him face the harsh reality by letting go, and from there he eventually leaves to find his own way. Loved every page. 💕

Aquaman: Time and Tide (1993) #3

Aug 31, 2025

Peter David in this ish adds a well written tragic heros journey to Arthur's youth. Starting off in Alaska, Arthur saves a Eskimo girl from getting eaten by a polar bear. They manage to kill it together but from the ravage bear Arthur falls unconscious after the fight. Kako the Eskimo girl take shim to her home. Her grandfather is a man who is weary of white men because he blames them for corrupting his native land and their traditional way of life. To his surprise he comes to his sod hut with a young boy (Arthur) being cared for. Despite his weariness the old man welcomes Arthur for saving Kako. The ish also shows that Orm is not to far away but is living more like the modern times rather than the traditionalist way. He's arguing with his mother and he talks about how he was a bastard. How did Orm end up all the way here and what's the story with him and his mother? Hopefully we find out more later on. Arthur and Kako get real friendly, and at one point Kako takes her coat off and ask Aquaman to "warm" her 😉 and they get it on. In the distance Orm was watching them f**k and later on when Arthur wakes up he finds Kako all bloodied and beaten up. Still alive but barely. When he brings her back she gets visions of the lands native goddess treating him, but he manages to defeat her by commanding her hair of sea snakes to go after her. When he wakes up Kako is saved, he tells the family what happened and the grandfather freaks out that Arthur has angered their native goddess and dies from a heart attack. The mother screams and blames Arthur for destroying the family and makes him leave. This has some really good emotional moments that adds some real emotional depth to Aquamans development. This imo is how you do a great backstory of a heros youth unlike the most recent Mark Waid Superboy run which is the opposite and has absolutely no emotional weight to it at all...

Aquaman: Time and Tide (1993) #4

Aug 31, 2025

Oh okay so it looks like Peter David is keeping elements of Jim Aparros Aquaman, which I've never read but I just know about it because of the horrible thing that Aquaman goes through in it. In this ish it shows Aquaman chronicling his life still and recalling his time as King. His celebration has Aqualad Mera, Arthur Jr. and King Travis. I wonder how Aquaman was able to forgive a man who abandoned him as a baby at Mercy reef but that was probably all in the Aparros run. Anyway Orm attacks and reveals himself as the man who almost killed Keko many years ago. He was jealous and angry because he loved Keko and was enraged that Arthur took her away. We find out that Orm is the half brother of Arthur just like in the movie so that's great 👍 but Arthur doesn't put 2 and 2 together until years later when he is chronicling his past. Clearly the time when he is chronicling his son is dead, he is separated from Mera most likely and Aqualad I don't know. Did Aparros kill off Aqualad too or did Aqualad go off on his own hopefully will find out more because I liked Aqualad in the Silver age comics. This is really solid storytelling, and Peter David really did try to make Aquaman be taken serious by more people at the time which is sad because Aparros seemed to have some really good stuff before and the silver age comics were actually fun to read for me.

Great Start! After reading Timeless #1 I wasn't sure where it was fitting into this issue but it all makes sense by the end and I loved it. Jed Mackay knocked it out of the park with this ish. How he went back and forth showing the present battle the Avengers were having to 7 days ago Captain Marvel persuading this avenger, present day battle, 6 days ago etc. At first it was a little jarring but once I got into the rhythm of the story I couldn't drop the ish. I love the "Were called the Avengers as a warning to ourselves of what we can lose." Each small introduction to each Avenger was a nice slice of what they will be like during this run and I really like what is on offer here. I don't feel the need to read anything previous except for Timeless which I already did, and am happy to just stick with reading this run without crossing over to anything else.

Eh, I took a two month hiatus on reading new comics and coming back I have to say I did not miss much. The last good issue for this series was #20 when Black Panther was in that pocket dimension helping some resistance group, I loved that concept. But it really has been just going through the motion since that ish. This should be great, Kang hiring Black Cat to help steal (well honestly I forgot what it was called), Black Cat getting her father in on it. But it sucks. I don't know, the writing, the pacing, the dynamics between each member. Just sucks... Gonna go back to staying away from this. Will probably check it out when Black Panther comes back.

Batman / Superman (2019): Authority Special #1

Aug 14, 2025

For some reason this special was in Action comics tpb vol 3, maybe I'll see the connection in the coming issues because this special was made during the Batman/Superman series from 2019-2021 so not sure how this relates to this current. 2023 run I'm reading now. Nonetheless this was pretty EPIC. I mean a Dark multiverse where the Al-Ghuls actually take over everything and are all immortal through the Lazarus pit. The find a "Fugonaut" a multiverse guardian and Batman was warned by this guardian of their coming. The dark multiverse Al-Ghuls now want to conquer the Universe Earth 0 inhabits. The art style dramatically changes when the panels enter the dark multiverse and really creates this beautiful dynamic intensity that brings life to this special that doesn't happen often. By the end I guessed correctly in my mind that the Al-Ghuls succeeded taking over this dark multiverse because this time Bruce gave into Ta's and I was right. It turns out Bruce is their God here. I don't know if they did anymore with this concept maybe they did in Action Comics and I'll find out but let me tell you I loved this so much, need more whacky out of this world stuff like this, less f*ggey Jon Kent and that piece of shizz Jay garbage thank you very much DC you freaks

Captain Marvel (2023) #1

Aug 20, 2025

I only gave this run a shot because on the later issues I really liked the new designs for Carol, but going in with low expectations since this is written by Alyssa Wong. I read her Deadpool issues for a bit and fell off because her writing style just doesn't do it for me. I have to say she still is unimpressive in this but I'm going to finish this it's only 10 issues. The art in the interiors here are okay but feel like unfinished rough drafts more than completed works. The story is basic and not sure if Yuna is interesting or just another self-insert of Wong which she seems to do sometimes. This is during the Jed MacKay run of the Avengers but not much connecting to that so far.

5.5
Captain Marvel (2023) #2

Aug 20, 2025

Just like her Deadpool run Wongs writing is atrocious. Hopefully she gets more into the swing of Captain Marvel as I go on and hopefully this Yuna arc isn't for the full 10 issues. Yuna is kind of lame. The art improved slightly but still nothing great. Jed MacKay writes Carol better in his Avengers run even though that's not perfect but way more interesting than this... And Omen is pretty lackluster villain just chasing Carol and Yuna around for the Negative bands Yuna stole from Genis-Vell the former Captain Marvel. Kind of cheap how she killed him so quick and is using his dead body to chase after them.

6.5
Captain Marvel (2023) #3

Aug 20, 2025

Slightly improved from last two issues but mostly because the artist seems to be getting more into it and really does a great job in many of these panels, plus the use of color pops out nice. The low score however remains because the writing is still bad and there's very little room given to develop the characters. There has been very little reason to like Yuna other than she has to be there for the plot, and Carol is just being used to progress Yuna story. SO this feels more like a Yuna comic than Captain Marvel so far

7.0
Captain Marvel (2023) #4

Aug 20, 2025

This is a clear improvement, the art just keeps getting better with each issue, the writing is still staying the same and has no feeling of evolution at all. It's still hard to like any of the characters the way Wong writes their dialogue. Thankfully the artist is really good and makes for some great panels to admire. I especially love the Black Cat drawings well done. Even though I still do not like Yuna, the artist draws her well. My biggest complaint still is how Captain Marvel feels like a second banana in her own comic...

Believe it or not but this ish was actually pretty good unlike the previous shit ones. Better pacing, less exposition and the art was allowed to breathe. I enjoyed reading through this, why couldn't the previous ones be as good as this? Secondly I am only deducting two points from this for one reason. I wish the interiors of this ish looked like the cover shown. Not dissing the interior art it looks fantastic still like I said for most of the issues. But this cover issue art is really cool and wish the rest of the story was drawn in that kind of manga anime way it looks unique and more stylized.

Captain Marvel (2023) #10

Aug 20, 2025

Thank God it's over but jokes aside this ish and #9 were actually readable and enjoyable. These two utilized Carol more as should be and gave less time to boring Yuna. However if Marvel is going to reboot this again or continue this at the end of 2025 or next year of 2026 please find a new writer. Keep the artist or maybe even go for the style that you have shown on the covers of #9 and #10 I think that manga anime style would fit Carol's world beautifully and you can make some epic action panels with that style. Im going to give the Thompson run a read now and it looks like it'll be more quality than this. One other thing, keep her new design I love this look, and put her through more trials and tribulations. And no you don't have to go back to the 90s and make her an alcoholic like Tony during those 1998 Iron Man runs although it might make things interesting if she has some more human frailties like that that she would have to overcome.

Fantastic Four (2022) #1

Aug 9, 2025

After watching the horrendous new Fantastic Four movie I decided to come back to comics and check out some of the most recent version of Fantastic Four, and I ave to say this ish is a great start. It's not too involved and is friendly enough for new readers not requiring too much past knowledge of previous sagas if like me you haven't read them. Starting off with the Ting and his wife Alicia finding themselves stuck in a town that is in a weird time loop from the 1950's. And no this isn;t one of those overdone tropes you see in modern day media about "o no the 1950's how horrible thank god it's not the 1950s". No this is just some good old fashioned science fiction "how do we figure out how to stop the time loop". There isn;t much action in this besides some really good panels of the Thing doing his thing and unlike the crap movie he is not wearing a sweater, he is wearing normal casual clothes and looks like himself imo.The Thing certainly acts like himself in this, Ryan North does a fine job capturing the Thing's way of speaking and his relationship with Alicia works really well. Without saying to much the end is predictable but a nice transition into making you question okay where are the rest of the team?

Fantastic Four (2022) #2

Aug 9, 2025

Ish #2 takes a similar formula from #1 using a mystery science fiction element that I enjoyed. Sue and Reed find themselves in a town full of people who are really all Doombots. The Doombots attack them but go back to their human disguises when a state trooper comes in and interrupts. This strange behavior leads Reed and Sue to further investigate why this town is full of Doombots. They find this old lady in a wheelchair who turns out to be the key to the mystery. She was someone that Dr. Doom cared about when he was young and promised to take care of her. His solution was to giver her a Doombot to medically watch over her. It gets kind of dark when you find out she died a while ago and being that Doom only programmed the bot to keep her alive, the bot "became" the old woman and tried to keep her going by meshing with her bioloically. This only ended up in it replicating and copying her personality instead of actually staying alive. This was a great twist, and this concept of Doombots just existing on the side makes this world of the Fantastic Four feel rich and complex. That these characters effect the world around them in ways that even stay hidden.

This is where we start cooking, ish #4 starts out with why the Fantastic Four has been split up in the first place. Going back to a battle they had against aliens from the "negative zone" Reed comes up with a plan to send the Baxter building and the entire block into a space time dimension thing. He had to make this decision on the spot and had no time to avoid the catastrophic effects of doing this. All of Reed and Sue's, the Thing's and Alicia's children were in the building and a bunch of civilians on the block were sent along nto the space dimension. Ofcourse this is not fatal becase it has something to do with time, and all of this will pop right back in a year precisely. In that year none of those people would feel a thing. Nonetheless this pissed everyone off because they lost their children, or kids became orphaned because they lost their parents, making everyone hate the FF over this. My only beef with this ish is how after that reveal, the comic cuts to The Thing and Alicia being trapped by this ancient alien "parasite" that is I guess trying to suck up their intellect I don;t know. Obviously Reed,Sue and Johnny free them but frankly this was kind of weird. Like the last time we saw the Thing and Alicia they were leaving the time looped city. So how the hell did they get munched up by this alien but okay I guess this is not important, just messed up the pacing for me a bit.

This ish wasn't really anything important and didn't progress the base story much further. Not that this was a bad ish but it very surface level filler stuff. Had some cool art though on one page where Reed figures out how to re-reverse his and the team's molecules so they can exist again in the living universe. What I like about these weird concepts is I think the FF would make a really good TV show instead of a movie. FF should be Marvel's version of Star Trek there are so many weird things the FF does and figures out.

Improvement from last ish but still a filler episode. What I did like here is it shows what Sue was capable of doing with her powers, she was able to block out the sun over a particular state to help stop the spread of other dimensional cells that were a threat to our universe's equation of life. Other than that it was okay.

There's a lot going on in this ish, Dr. Doom created a holograhpic ghost capable of removing letters from your language making you forget how to speak slowly. To Dr. Doom traveling back in time to the Baxter Building teleport crisis because he wanted to get Reed Richard's daughter out of it, he has some plan to mentor her I guess? To then Doom finding out through traveling every moment of time that maybe no matter how hard he tries maybe all of the timelines he has set up the best possible way and there is no way for him to get true perfection or rule. This was a crazy ish I liked it very much.

Way better than the last two issues, this was kind of strange. A rat alien race is stuck in the void of space and somehow thir trajectory threatens the teleported Baxter building, so the team has to intercede and prevent this from turning into a disaster. But this comic is really more focused on the weird rat aliens POV because throughout 500 years they are witnessing the Fantastic four in a kind of time glitch. Making the rat aliens think they are hostile one alien goes crazy and dies at a time. It is hard to explain, but not a bad issue, but like the previous two this feels like just another filler.

This was another filler but a really good filler and not just because there's a dog in it. Throughout a good mount of this The Thing is in his Aunt's house falling down what seems like a never ending hole down into the earth. I enjoyed this ish because the art was good and I found it funny seeing the thing in freefall navigating his way through the house with his dog and trying to figure out if what was happening was real or not.

Another banger here, "The China Brain" is a great and weirdly terrifying concept that seems close to reality. Starting off with a flashback of the 60s The comic shows two unnamed men most likely US government agents describing a China Brain consisted of humans being the living neurons of it. Clearly this historical call back makes on think did the Nixon administration enrich China just to use them as guinea pigs for the "China Brain" project. Then back to the FF's timeline clearly the brain has evolved from China to a world brain made of every human being. This was well written and creative, read through this like a knife cutting butter, smooth fast read.

I really love these weird sci-fi stories especially when done right like this. Pretty cool to how this issue literally references an old story all the way back to 1963 when Sue and Reed were facing off Rama-tut in the pre-historic past. He goes back to kill off the first European nomads to kill off the future so the F F wouldn't exist at all. Obviously Reed and Sue trick him in a really ingenious way. You can even thank Alicia because they used braille to avoid Rama-tut from figuring out their plan to stop him. I must say too the art really juiced up for the better in this ish, absolutely beautiful work here.

Really enjoyed this and now I understand why the FF movie had a weird cosmic baby. That is their son Franklin but at this point in the comic he is a teen who only uses his cosmic powers once a year secretly. The difference between this Franklin and the movie is no one knows of his cosmic powers this whole time yet. I prefer this over how the movie handled it. Apparently his future self came to him one time but that must have been in previous saga I didn't read but luckily this ish kind of filled in some gaps.

This was a slog to get through had to force myself to finish this ish. I know the noir 1950s setting was because the Trapster used a cosmic cube to create this false reality but God I can't stand when comics go back in time in this fashion. I hate it when they go to the old West, or this. Bores me, if I want to read stuff like that I'll find a cosmic that focuses on that but I don't like it when it infects a cosmic like FF.

Love this one, funny, sweet and a good way to show the dynamic I thought was missing in the new movie between the Thing and Johnny. Working as cashier's because the money of the FF has been frozen in NY and the whole family has to live out in Arizona (Aunt Petunias) house Ben and Johnny both work at Foodtopia. I liked this a lot because they were competing with each other and being like petty children. What brought them back to their senses was some tabloid punk journalist ragging on Johnny and saying how he has fallen from fame to minimum wage. This pissed off Ben and made him go off on a great rant defending Johnny and making the tabloid journalist look like a total ass. Ben did this in his classic rough verbal fashion, and didn't act like a total wussy like he does in the new movie. These are two bros through and through love this ish.

I would give it a lower score because the whole vampire invasion put of nowhere is a bit contrived. But I enjoyed the beginning the most where Reed and Alicia were in the museum having a heart to heart about art, and how it doesn't effect Reed emotionally because of his genius way of looking at the world. The dialogue they had in these pages really made them feel like real people.

I'm glad the vampire part is over not really my cup of tea, the only vampire themed stories I can tolerate are the Vampire the Masquerade games and books. Wow, just wow. This was epic on so many levels and did a good job showing just why Reed Richards is badass. So they find out this alien they found in the proton shop was named Zrixa. She tells them half truths and it turns out she came from a planet billions of light years away from us where the sun was dimming. The species figured a way to travel at light speeds that cost no fuel by extracting particles from their sun that would shrink their ships through light travel. Zrixa turned out to be the wealthy owner and creator of the ,ining operation of the sun and she horded all the particles being the sole cause of the dimming. She squandered any hope from her people and ran away, the people sent proton nuclear bombs after her out of vengeance for taking away their future. When Sue and the others decrypted the messages from their planet, the planet was already dead and frozen. Zrixa was defeated and the last proton shop they find at the end held a baby alien showing that not all the aliens fell into vengeance that there were some who still had love and hope despite the inevitable dimming of their sun.

I swear FF should be a TV show in the same format as Star Trek, this ish only reinforces this feeling of mine. The sci-fi insanity, incredible multi-versal comic science, and the no bars no fear ability to do things that might make some feel strange at the end. So in this ish the team finds some kind of pod that Dr. Doom sealed himself off in, but the crux is anyone who interferes with it gets sent to an unknown time and place. The FF ends up in this weird world with a smaller circumference and less density according to Reed. The team is quickly embraced by these friendly tentacles alien things who aren't in an advance stage, most likely they are in their version of ancient Greece maybe I guess? Well as the team communicated with these aliens Johnny falls in love with one named Angelica of the Shore. Some may find this disgusting and weird since these aliens have no human anatomy and are not your typical greys. Not that I'm into the idea and thought it strange, it was kind of funny and cute in its own way. The alien was clearly in awe of these advanced aliens the FF but even with all the differences Johnny is still a babe magnet, I think this is hilarious. Doing more digging Reed discovers that this alien planet is Earth but somehow something interrupted the natural evolution of earth by stopping a planet the size of Mars named Thea from crashing into earth which gave our planet the density and circumference we have now. It turns out this interference was on accident on Dooms part, he unknowingly did this whole testing his new powers as Sorcerer Supreme, because this act would eliminate us every being a thing and so these new species of aliens were the new citizens of this earth. They come to the conclusion that if they reverse this it will end the new species of aliens and Johnny and the team butt heads over this. As I was reading this I was saying there has to be a way to solve this without killing this species, maybe doing something with the multiverse? Well guess what, Reed came up with just the solution to create another timeline. We wouldn't be able to visit this one again because it would cause catastrophic consequences but it would work for both. I loved the out of this world stuff, can we please get a Star Trek esque TV show of the FF please?

This was another good light-hearted funny ish like #26. For me it was a better way of bringing the FF kids in and making them more likeable which the last issue that attempted this failed for me (with the homework crap). This ish was more about Ben and Alicia's kid Nikki being a skrull and realizing how to best use her powers. At first she was using it to get her brother and Valeria and Franklin out of the principals office and imitating the FF. Some really funny dialogue here, this is how you do light comics without being overly stupid or treating your readers like idiots, well done.

Now we're back to what Doom is up to. He tricks Reed and Sue to find the Doom sword, the only sword that can destroy him, and he eliminates it. He tries to kill Reed and Sue by crushing them to death in the Astral Plane but luckily Reed figures out the illogical equation Dane gave him early on was really a magical word that helps Sue and Reed escape. My only dislike is different art now, I was really enjoying the style throughout the series now it's good but not as good as it was.

This is a good ish about fighting complacency and overcoming the current matrix of imposed normalcy in this case by the new Emperor Doom. She-Hulk makes an appearance here and helps the team save two vampire children from an angry mob. She-Hulk looks good here and makes me curious to check out her current run. Only if it seems anywhere close to respecting the John Byrne Sensational She-Hulk otherwise not interested. Good ish here that shows you how Sue and Ben are handling the new status quo of Doom.

Fantastic Four (2022) #30

Aug 17, 2025

Really on a roll here, got a nice ish here on Ben's psyche and how he's handling being turned back into a normal human because of Emperor Doom trying to show how good and benevolent he now is. Feeling weak and less of a man he goes to his wife Alicia's father whose in jail a former villain "The Puppet Master". Asking the Puppet Master to create a clay figure of Ben that will give him a false sense of confidence, another level of liquid luck one would say. Alicia figures this out pretty quick at the dinner table and immediately goes to the puppet Master to end it. Her father didn't give her any trouble and explained how Ben wanted this, and used it as an opportunity to convince his daughter that he's full of repent for all the wrong of the past. Even going so far as to say Alicia didn't have to hypnotize him to give her his blessing to marry Ben in a marriage issue I didn't read. The best part that really hit was when Alicia and Ben were talking about this and she told him how this was just a shortcut and he needed to heal naturally. Great artwork of them embracing and getting all emotional, really good stuff here love it!

So here the team finds out that they are losing their powers because Ben is no longer the Thing. Traveling different multiverse versions of the FF origins to let Ben take in the cosmic rays that turned him in the first place, it all fails each time. After many attempts, their last attempt is in their universe, this turns out to work and Ben becomes the Thing again. But their past selves didn't get hit by the cosmic rays because he absorbed most of it, altering the past and erasing the FF from the main timeline accidentally. This in turn erased all of their children from existence... Yikes... I don't think there's a quick Ctrl Z fix to this guys?

Fantastic Four (2025) #1

Aug 18, 2025

I'm not going to crap on this ish to hard because it's a new #1 but I'm not saying this is a strong start either. Right away there is a decay in the art style, not looking as good as previous run even at that one's worst. Doom has trapped each member of the FF in totally different time periods of earth. He put insane time gaps between each member and the only plan they have for situations like this is using a forever stone to find each other. Johnny is in the earliest stages of Earth's formation no life, he writes it down on the forever stone and I guess leaves some kind of signal that would last long enough for the next. Thing is in the dino period, Reed in 1226, and so Sue being the last one is the only key for the team to get back to their time together. She's in a far off future where the sun is dying and all the oceans and life are gone. The sun ready to eat the earth and eventually die. They never calculated being sent so far into the future and the ish ends with the mystery will Sue find the forever stone or is this the end? I like the idea and Im interested but one of the things bothering me is why is the FF attacking Doom in the beginning of the ish? Didn't he just save everyone from Dormammu and didn't One World Under Doom end with Maria Hill having dirt? So how do we cut to this so fast without proper build?

Fantastic Four (2025) #2

Aug 19, 2025

This was a huge improvement from #1! The art looks good, it's the same style but improved. more precise and good deliberate line work. The colors really pop out and the artist really does the simple cartoon faces perfectly. Sue does end up finding her way to the forever stone, Reed stretches himself into the earth and arranged every single diamond into arrows to help her in the future. When Sue gathers the team back they return to the point where they were fighting Doom and like a moron Reed tells Doom how they figured it all out. I knew as I was reading Reed say all of that I was like "No moron shut up! He's just going to do it again with the knowledge of your forever stone!" And what do you know Doom sent them right back but in those moments they try to use the car time thing to undue their idiotic mistakes. Really good ish, only beef is this still doesn't line up to well with One World Under Doom. Are they fighting Doom after they had the debate in ish #6 and this has been the fight after Widow and crew exposed what was happening to Latveria? Something seems to be missing between this and One World Doom...

Gold Goblin (2022) #1

Nov 24, 2022

I did not think I would enjoy this issue as much as I did! I have been underwhelmed lately with the Amazing Spider-man run that is going on right now. Nonetheless I wanted to give Gold Goblin a shot since it has a different creative team working on it. The writing is interesting, to the point, and strings you along the psychological ups and downs of Norman's new life as the Gold Goblin. Even with his past sins removed, his conscious is growing guilt, where his past evil deeds are whispering in his ear (literally). It' not only the writing that is a huge upgrade from the current Amazing Spider-man issues, it is the art as well! The art by Lan Medina hits it on the nail and enhances Christopher Cantwell's flow of writing. I know it is not right to compare this to the current ASM run, but I cannot help it as this new series is branching off from ASM into a main series for Norman. My hope is they can retain this quality for a long time, unlike ASM 2022 which was only good for the first five issues and then totally lost it's beat when they dropped Tombstone for the lame Dark Web or Axe Judgement day nonsense. Sorry that's just how I felt. Also to illustrate the superb flow of art and writing, Gold Goblin does a much better job when bringing in Gwen Stacy to show the reader Norman's guilt manifesting before our eyes. Compared to when ASM brought Gwen to talk to Peter and give him a "Thumbs Up" if I remember to say he is worthy or some baloney. The ASM version was totally devoid of any emotion, missing the mark big time. While Gold Goblin uses Gwen's horrific moment of death and the action of it to show Norman's inner torment. This is an unexpected great start to a new series, my only advice to the creative team: keep your focus on your story. Leave the "events" out, don't drop your story like ASM did to Tombstone to rush in Dark Web. Give Norman a brutal, "Goblin Odyssey" of Redemption and you will have a gem no one would have guessed!!!

Harley Quinn (2021) #22

Nov 24, 2022

Harley Quinn is going in a whole new direction and I am very happy with this issue! I caught up on my reading with this series, I took a little time off because I was underwhelmed with the previous issues of Harley. The previous issues aren't as bad as many make it out to be, I got some genuine laughs from them, but I was left with feeling that Harley deserves more and she can be better. And this is certainly a good step forward for one of my favorite characters. I must add that the new art is spot-on, beautiful, and lovely! The art on the previous issues were nice, mediocre at best, fit for a child's graphic novel. Harley should be grittier, with some light moments... The new look by Matteo Lolli is simply great and I pray that DC comics KEEPS MATTEO LOLLI FOR A LONG TIME ON HARLEY QUINN, this will be good for the series. So for those of you who are not sure about giving this series a shot, this is now the time to jump in. I believe it's about to really pick up now. And the next issue proved my instinct as issue #23 was even better than this! Can't wait to read issue #24!!!! I would like to say more but I will reserve those thoughts for my review on issue #23, and the big one I am looking forward to picking up #24 (with the cool 90's variant cover). I am not a critic, nor being payed for this review, or getting any freebies to write this. I am genuinely a Harley fan who has been sticking with Harley even in some rough cycles.

Sorry but I am enjoying this! As the last two issues really started picking up, issue #24 continues the rhythm and is really fun to read for me. I found the dialogue between Harley and Zsasz to work well, and was very funny when Harley forced him to help find out who her murderer was by dressing up as detectives. The comic is not the best comic ever, but it is still a good time in a quirky way. The reveal at the end is pretty cool and I hope issue #25 has a good fight sequence between Harley and her killer. Again the Art by Lolli fits this story, love the style now, and the pacing of the panels are a good beat.

Harley Quinn (2021) #44

Dec 10, 2024

I don't know.. Not bad, but not good either... Okay so coming from someone who did read the whole Stephanie Phillips run and one of the minority that enjoyed a good amount of it I must say this is not a good start to a new Harley Quinn run. Tini Howard turned me off completely so I've been out of the Harley comics since issue #30 I think? I was pissed then because I thought Phillips was really getting a good beat on Harley and just when it was really getting good (for me personally) they took her off in place of Howard, like why? So I heard recently that they started a new run with this writer and honestly there is good potential here in the writing style. Elliot certainly has a good grasp of Harley's ebb and flow and how she perceives the world around her but what is really dragging it down is this art style. I am so sick of this Disney cartoon style for Harley Quinn, the anarchist, the "villain" and I guess sometimes anti-hero to but I prefer when she is full evil. Phillips played around with this good guy bad guy side of Harley but I thought it worked giving the context of each scenario. This comic has no hook at all that makes me look forward to reading the next issue which I am about to do. Of course none of these writers hold a candle to Paul Dini' previous works but we have to work with what we have right now. Writing is good could use a little less pop culture to it, and a little more grit, art style needs to change asap, this art is crap and totally water down the badass Harley really could be. Harley can still be goofy (I guess) but she needs a badass look or something more that pops. I like the hairstyle she has, but nothing stands out about the costume at all. Begrudgingly going to read #45 but not enthusiastic to do so...

Dec 10, 2024

Slightly improved from issue #44 I guess... ...That's not saying much though. While there was more action in this issue the action was predictable, lame and poorly drawn. There's one panel where Harley goes for the final blow with her bat against this generic henchman and it is so bad. The proportion makes no sense and it has no impact at all. That action panel was the perfect opportunity to do a bloody crazy drawing of Harley smashing the dudes face in but no this is Harley for kids I guess. Which is absurd because Harley is constantly letting us know what a horny lesbian she is, because you know tumblr and shipping is just dandy when writing comics. As I stated previously, this Disnification of Harley is still a mistake that needs to stop, and they need to bring grit and roughness to Harley comics. The writing is slightly cute and the whole sympathy for the Chicken Fingers character is touching but really it all feels like nothing. Like there's no meaning at all to anything I'm reading here. I get what the author's beef and message is throughout the comic but honestly it is really not a good motivation for Harley. It just feels like reaching for ideas here that aren't really there. Last issue I gave a 4 and only made this a five because it was a little better in terms of pacing. Still crap though, not diarrhea, its that kind of crap that no matter how hard you try to squeeze it out it just sticks there ya know? Poor Harley, she deserves better...

Another epic comic this month! So again I misjudged this book because I wasn't that impressed by the cover. I still wanted to give it a shot being WWII themed. So happy I did because just like my surprise from the gritty Sabretooth #1 this gritty Wolfenstein-esque comic was fantastic. The art is just right and really gives you this Band of Brothers feel that takes a supernatural twist. I know this has been done plenty of times but this jumped you right into the action and wasted no time. I love that between this and Sabretooth the writer and artist are not afraid to get bloody and violent in their panels allowing the reader to invest in the life and death situations of these dark worlds. Of course Nick Furry has to be in this, so him teaming up with this Ghost Rider is gonna be crazy! Also I notice Szardos may be wearing an Eye of Agamoto around his neck? My only nitpick is why make Peggy Carter French resistance, I would have kept her as SAS or English? I mean she even still has the same name. Carter being either English, Scottish or Irish. So even if you made her Irish or Scottish it wouldn't be as far fetched as French. But still happy to have Peggy in the Howling Commandos going to be epic! Keep up the great work!!

AN ACCIDENTAL MASTERPIECE? This ish had some great dialogue between the shape shifting Loki god of stories and Thor. How Loki starts boyish, to girlish and then a mix at first came off as agenda driven however the further you read the story it makes sense in the context of what Loki is doing. Loki is offering to aid Thor and clearly the reader in one panel sees how Loki is somehow pulling the strings but as to why one can only guess? As Loki gives Thor a necessary test to prepare him for the next battle with Toranos Loki changes constantly in emotion and physically as well until he reveals his full androgynous god form. It is a bit creepy, a perfectly drawn female head with twisted horns and hair but the body of a man at least that's what it seems. At first I was put off, but the more I thought about it the more horrifying Loki became in this particular ish. Why am I focusing on this aspect? Well like in the Vote Loki comic there is a small part where he shape shifts into a woman. The reason was actually logical and comedic simultaneously. When asked why are you now a woman Loki responded with "Trying to see if this will improve my chances to win the Presidency." Clearly a subtle jab and cultural joke on how politics is surface level bullshit. In this ish Ewing is probably aiming to get your goad because of his ideology if he has one but if that is the case he fails in this respect. Instead by accident Ewing created a Loki that is endemic and symbolic of our current turbulent times. Constantly changing, unsure, a pendulum swinging from right to left, boy/girl. This is the embodiment of madness, Loki has reached truly the height of deception and insanity. For Thor reminds the reader throughout this ish that "the storyteller lies" and only stays true for the story. Why this particular theme really excites my imagination is because being a fan of the Loki TV show as well, this makes me wonder if Loki when becoming the god of stories retained his new persona of selflessness from being with Sylvi, Mobius, B-15 and company. Or did he attain his goal of ultimate godhood where even Thor if Thor would understand this new height of Loki, would be absolutely terrified of his brothers ascendance. In other words, is all of this the work of Loki? Does Loki being the god of stories, the maintainer of the multiverse, does he even have sway on the elder gods? Thus his constantly shape shifting form throughout this ish symbolizing this possible inner conflict of accepting this new godhood and using it for nefarious purposes or fighting to retain his heroic capabilities? This is probably over thinking it, but isn't that the fun of reading comics? So just for that intellectual stimulation this ish gets a perfect 10!

Immortal Thor (2023) #4

Jan 12, 2025

Though not as masterful as previous issues this was still a blast to see everyone sharing Thor's hammer to take down Toranos. My only beef in this is some of the characterization going on, Storm is pretty mean these days and not just in Thor but in the Avengers run too I've noticed. She is very short with people and has an uppity attitude like her shit doesn't stink. I'm sure there's a good reason for this that I might of missed in some series but I still don't like her current persona. Like when Thor ask for her help, Storm treats him like dog shit, she uses her atmospheric pressure powers on him to make him feel the crushing weight and strikes him hard with lightning which of course he speaks to the lightning to ease off and it obeys. Storm has this same cliche line that also came up on Avengers #20 or #21 by Jed Makay I think where she says "I must be equal." In avengers when talking to Scott she says roughly "I no longer work in groups that have a leader, only in groups that are equal to eachother." Storm sounds like a pissy 5 year old to me and clearly her anger comes out more when the person she is talking to is white. This hatred really comes out on poor Thor! None of the others come off like this though Jane was pretty nice, Bill having felt angry about Thor ended up making up with him after the defeat of To ranks and they had a real bro moment that I loved. Obviously Storm being mean is some kind of editorial agenda if she is just like this now I guess. Nonetheless the Thor stuff in this is golden baby!

The art is chefs kiss but the story in this was a bit lacking, the most memorable part was when Thor was told to pick up the cute little green cat. I laughed when he picked it up by the stomach and it stretched like Mr. fantastic then slowly transformed into the beast you see on this issues cover. That was great fun!

TURNS ON THE IMAGINATIVE JUICES The foreboding atmosphere each panel brilliantly throws at the reader keeps the intrigue high. Thor coming face to face with mother Gaia gets some background on Atum the Sun god and how Gaia has the ability "key" from Utgard Loki to unlock the gates which causes extinction level events when she pleases. Obviously being a symbol of the environmentalist climate change ideology mother Gaia is tired of humans using her and treating her like shit with Roxxon oil. A bit on the nose and kind of hokey but Thor's response brings you back into the comic world. Thor chops her head off with a vicious swing, I loved this. Again I'm sure Ewing is a leftist and is trying to push his politics but like I said about his interpretation of Loki's shape shifting on ish #3 Ewing accidentally pisses on his own beliefs. Having Thor full of righteous anger at mother Gaia threatening mass genocide is kind of calling out the climate ideology as just that. As a giant green genocidal monster that needs Thor to decapitate it before it kills us. Of course Gaia in the comic only activates the coming horror she does not perpetrate it technically. Luckily Gaia is not as insane as the climate change cult and was nice enough to "create" Thor to give humanity another chance. So thanks mother Gaia for that!

MINOTAUR AMERICAN PSYCHO I did not expect Minotaur to be this compelling of a villain but this was well done. Expecting a cheeky hokey political message from Ewing, instead we receive something more honest about never ending entertainment and consumerism and breaking down humanity to economic units. When Thor ask Minotaur why he wants to turn the world to shit and have a small population of a people divided by class status, Minotaur's response was classic. "I like it when the number goes up. That's all. Because that means I win. That means I'm better. And that's all there is." Its simple but the art and how the panels flowed to this really hit home. This was Patrick Bateman level thought process, cold, evil. Ewing must have read works of Brett Easton Ellis because Minotaur is a Brett Easton Ellis character if he was a comic book villain. If you don't know who the author I'm referring to is look up the 1991 novel American Psycho or just watch the Christian Bale film adaptation truly a classic. Finally, a memorable quote by Minotaur, "'Art'. I never liked that word. I prefer 'content'." Ewing has a way of mixing modern day cultural entropy and solidifying it in writing to make sense. Anyone reading about this time in our history in the future, I will point to that last quote when describing social media, and how art devolved to "product" and "content" to be consumed and how people were referred (and probably will still be in the future) to as "consumers" instead of people or human beings or even customers. The economic terms used to dehumanize clearly should make any thinking person feel like something is off and of course the other side of the spectrum dehumanizes by generalizing people and placing them into a amorphous blob called the "collective", " group", "tribe" or skin color.

Iron Man (1998) #1

Aug 31, 2025

I started reading this series as my first Iron Man comic maybe around March 2024. I wasn't really focused at the time because I was going back and forth with my grandfather for his eye surgery and helping him daily with his basic needs so really I kind of read these in a haze. I read up to number 24 and lost track because I got busy with life let's say. I want to revisit and start over and write down what I think because this Iron Man comic for me allowed me to start liking Iron Man beyond the MCU Robert Downey Jr. version. So this is after the Heroes Reborn event which I haven't read, where Franklin Richards (Reeds son) starts over the whole universe or something Idk, and the only characters who didn't get reset and are trapped in the previous one are Thor and Dr. Doom. Tony's origin story and all the things he did in the previous runs though haven't changed it seems so I don't really understand what the whole Heroes Reborn thing was about and I'm not really interested in reading that. The world now thought Tony has been dead, Fujikawa took over Stark industry, Pepper and Rhodey watched over his main assets, and Tony in this story is in a reflective stage and questioning what the purpose of his life really is. He's not acting so much likes playboy and seems very deep in this. And unlike the films he keeps himself separate from Iron Man to protect his secret identity. Having people believe Iron Man is a bodyguard for Stark. We have a lot of characters introduced for various reasons we don't know yet until future issues. Side characters show up at his comeback celebration from Foggy Nelson, Foggy mother, Pepper Potts who is married to Happy Hogan now, Rhodey. J.J Jameson, Norman Osborne and Starks cousin Morgan who he refers to as the family black sheep. Tony goes through the motions and gets annoyed how everyone "knows what he should be doing". He doesn't get an answer until he gets a run in by the Death Squad who was most likely hired by Fujikawa to get rid of Stark so they can keep the company. He gets away and fights them as Iron Man. Defeating them but in the process he accidentally helped destroyed a construction building that was being built for a desperate neighborhood that was affected by the "Onslaught". Feeling like his life is a joke of destruction and than rebuilding he decided to make Stark Solutions to purely rebuild and help government, private business and individuals who can pay. The money would all go toward projects of rebuilding for a better tomorrow. So Tony in this is very conscious and is trying to change things he might not be able to change. Real beefy comic with plenty of dialogue to keep you busy and become immersed in this world.

Iron Man (1998) #2

Sep 1, 2025

So this isn't as talky as the last issue but we have a nice little build up of mystery between Tony and Ms Spirosa who according to this ish she once tried to expose Tony's identity as Iron Man with the Mad Thinker back in Tales of Suspense #72. We find out in the beginning that Tony has no idea that Pepper and Happy Hogan are married to each other while he was thought dead. So invited by Ms Spirosa in Switzerland Tony is asked to check on her financial books of the company she is running and inherited from her third husband. He figures out pretty quickly that Spirosa has been forced to entrap Tony by a mysterious force seeking to destroy him most likely connected to Stark Fujikawa. Using his smarts he slips out from the goons and comes out as Iron Man only to be ambushed by Dreadnoughts. The art is really nice but the story pace is a little tough here but still solid all round.

This has a better pace than #2, the Dreadnoughts zap Tony with plasma beams with a temperature of 95,000 degrees. His suit takes the hit but he has to fall back and cool off the outer shell. In the meantime he saves Spirosa and her butler from the debris caused by the Dreadnoughts. We also find out in this ish that Pepper and Happy are actually on the outs for some reason. Happy is openly flirting with this blonde woman in front of Pepper and the tension between them is pretty clear. Spirosa tells Tony how an old friend of her dead husband named Kapelos has taken over the company to create weapons for the Arms Merchant. Kapelos claimed to cause her husband's death and threatened her life unless she gave him the company and allowed him to create high tech weapons. Tony sets up and interview on live TV and calls out the Arms Merchant and that he will find him and his entire client list. Putting a target on his back intentionally. Tony has to face the Dreadnoughts again, using a piece of long steel and threatening the egotistical Dreadnoughts of hitting them with hit like a bat, the Dreadnoughts fall for his smart ass remark and shoot their heat beams at the steel. The steel melts and Iron Man throws the melted steel onto each Dreadnought. The cold of the winter and snow contrasted by the extreme heat allow it to stick onto the surface of the nights. He then flies into Kapelos operation bringing the Dreadnoughts and uses them as a threat to make Kapelos spill the beans and give him the information he has on a disc. They make a deal and Iron Man then in return flies as high as he can into the sky making the noughts follow and the melted steel heat causes the noughts to blow up and almost kill Tony in the process. So he saved and freed Spirosa from the grip of Kapelos but Kapelos is just the tip. The girl Happy Hogan is flirting with and went out to eat with is really some secret agent trying to extract Stark secrets. Who exactly she is working for not sure, there are multiple villains with many different angles yet to be revealed.

Iron Man (1998) #4

So Tony finds out early on in the ish that Pepper and Happy went through a divorce and he feels extremely narcissistic for not seeing this. Even though he was out of the picture for a while, he still blames himself for not being able to read the situation so to speak. Hanging out in Isla Suerte "The shining jewel of the Caribbean" with hotels, resorts and casinos or as the villain Firebrand would later call it the soft play thing of the rich. Honestly my favorite part of this ish is the introduction of Rumiko. Shes a sexy 27 year old women who is Fujikawa's daughter. From a rich line but not allowed to actually work in the business for being female. Rumiko rebels in her own ways and mixes great with Tony Stark when they are together. She comes off as your cliche rich spoiled brat but you find out she's much more interesting than that and when the island gets attacked by Firebrand Iron Man sees her aiding the civilians and saving lives in the best way she can, fearless girl she is. In this Firebrand sticks out because he shows his distaste for the rich throughout his moments and some of whatt he says is not wrong at all. "You live off the sweat and toil of others -- live like kings by standing on their backs-- and then fritter away your workers lifeblood in plush, useless places like this! I did read the first 24 issues back in March of 2024 but honestly I don't remember what happens after this ish, like why does Firebrand have such a hatred toward the rich, does that get explained later on o is it nothing special? It was funny when Firebrand asked Iron man "Your an employee Iron Man -- a worker! You should be siding with the cause, not protecting the parasites!" Iron man resonds "This isn't exactly the place for a political discussion but business doesn't merely exploit -- it provides people a means to make a living." The ish ends with Firebrand activating a dormant volcano on hte island.

Tony handles Firebrand like Superman pretty much, hacking his less complex suit that contains his energy and using it against him and turning him into a huge laser to cut a new land path for the lava to flow in and save the people. Firebrand is insane and was created to be even worse by the terrorist organization Flaming Sword. Using his insanity to have him believe he is fighting for a cause against the rich when actuality he is just their tank to make pillaging and robbery easier. Iron Man gets pulverized a bit here and puts up a good fight with Firebrand. Im glad this part of the story is over and look forward to see what Natasha is up to on the next ish. Otherwise this just seals off Tony's new relationship with Rumiko, and ends up with him wanting Happy and Pepper to work things out. I really enjoyed the art but some of the pages blend too much into each other at times. This series will stand out more if it had som more divisions or separations more often.

I enjoyed seeing Black Widow and Iron Man team up together in tis issue. Some beautiful old school artwork in this ish, from the character designs to the simple but sweet environmental backdrops or social settings. Tony and Widow make a good match but to be honest TOny seems to fit well with any woman, I would even go as far to say that he is the Clark Gable of comic books. Devilish, classy, cool and rogue at the same time. And having a set of armor in a suitcase helps this persona immensely. Anyway, Tony makes a deal with Natasha to help her find out more bout brilliant scientist nd technicians who are disappearing systematically. Tony and Natasha go all over extravagant places with important officials and the like to use him as bait. Obviously Widow gets distracted by a assassin ad Tony gets kidnapped while she is busy. These scenes here I really liked specifically one page where they are dancing together in a ballroom with jazz musicians playing. These couple pages are really nice to look at and feels very classy. So Tony ends up at some Technician facility that is forcing all these brilliant minds to create an unknown technology. Tere not told what it is. Unlike all the other hostages Tony eluding the guards creates a beacon that contacts Natasha so she can find him. They end up fighting Tuatara who has some giant lizard bitch monster form. This is real 90s stuff here.

One thing you have to admit about these old comics even these 90s one, you were getting your monies worth in terms of length, size and dialogue. these comics take me a bit longer to read through than most of the modern comics I go through like water no joke. But these issues feel like really good animated episodes you would watch on TV except you would have to imagine the animation in your head. And the amount of detail in the dialogue boxes are really good and allows you as the reader to really get lost in the characters' thoughts and ways. I remember liking this particular ish when I first read it last year because of he interesting dynamic of Carol and Tony in here. This was the first time I learned that Carol had alcohol problems like Tony too and this made Ms. Marvel more interesting to me to eventually read her comics overtime. The bad guys in this are okay, the big bad really is the return of the Supreme Intelligence who apparently according to this ish was killed by the Avengers #347. A bunch of douche Kree revived him and need a power plant for some reason. But what makes this ish great is how Carol gets angry at Tony for calling out her using alcohol to get through her problems. This is also where he first reveals his identity to her for the first time. When Tony and Pepper go to Power Source Plant where the Kree are secretly based, Ms. Marvel causes a reaction wen she comes crashing at Tony and yelling at him for appearing to judge her even though he wasn't and he completely understands everything she s going through. He smells the alcohol on her breath and it literally makes his"mouth water". These small vulnerable details of both f these heroes for me adds so much depth to them and is why I didn;t mind doing a second reading of this comic series.

Iron Man (1998) #8

Sep 5, 2025

Another solid issue here, it immediatly starts off with Tony being chased by Whiplash. WHiplash is jacked, donned in S&M gear and proves to be pretty deadly for Iron Man.His whips are so fast even against Iron Man's speed and technological advantages that he overcomes Iron Man multiple times. Tony blieves the whips must work at a "molecular level", since he can feel his armor becoming brittle with each hit. Whiplash' motive is really unknown and apparently he use to go by the name Blacklash, and he eventually ent straight for his family and kid. But during the Elektra run of this time around issue #6 or #7, he was deemed unfit and is going berserk over this. Now one might argue that Whiplash' design up against Iron Man is ridiculous but it makes sense in it's simplicity. Mark Scarlotti is ripped to an extreme degree and simply relies on his natural acrobatics and ability with the only technological instruments he uses are external like his glider and his molecular whips. With the mobility of the glider, Scarlottis natural talent, and his ferocious whips he can end Iron Man pretty fast if Tony let's his guard down. Whiplsh gets away and knocks Tony out of the game. While Tony is on his search for Scarlotti and also looking for some mysterious recording's origin he enjoys his time in France with a woman named Yvette. Every issue does not shy away from Tony being a smooth guy with the ladies, I would be disappointed if these comics decided to stop this. After that while searching for the mystery man, Pepper and Happy have an argument, Happy falls on the floor from Pepper's dog treat and finds a bug under her desk. They figured out that chick Happy was going out with bugged the room and that means whoever was listening knows every location TOny has been at and that he is Iron Man. Tony freaks out and immediately leaves the building only to be welcomed by a group of 5 mercenaries who beat the shit out of him to a bloody pulp. One of the mercenearies took his briefcase and threw it in a river, that's why he couldn't become Iron Man and save himself. Whoever hired the mercs didn't tell them he's Iron Man and kept it to themselves. While Tony is getting beaten he sees a man up watching named "The Spymaster". Who is he and what is his role in this? Tony would have been dead if not for Natasha (Black Widow) coming in to save him on time. This must of been the handiwork of the Mandarin which should be next ish. Great stuff here!

So Tony literally dies for a moment, and Natasha uses her electric bracelets to bring him back to life. Grasping for life, pulverized, bruised, bloodied internally and out, Tony ask Black Widow to get his suitcase and she reluctantly does this worried for his life. Putting on the Iron Man suit in half a daze Tony tells her to call the Aveners and meet him where e ends up. A cool detail is while Tony travels the skies in his Iron Man suit how he drinks water is by pressing a button with his chin and it automatically delivers water. Being almost dead the water makes him vomit almost. Feeling tired he sets coordinates aand activates auto-pilot to fall asleep in his suit. Little details like this really give life to Iron Man and makes me imagine being in the same scenario. Ending up in Russia some kind of skirmish is happening with the Red Guardian and his crew (Darkstar, Vanguard etc), he tries to convince them the attack on their soil is being led by Mandarin. Without any evidence they stay on the frontlines to deal with the attack while Tony goes to the Mandarin up in the sky. So the Mandarin was behind everything in previous issues, the Death Squad, Stark Fujikawa, the Arms Merchant, the forced technological enslavery. It was all to hep the Mandarin create a huge Dragon ship. The Robo Dragon swallows Iron Man and as he follows the vast empty tunnel of its inner body, the Mandarin traps Iron Man. The entire ship is empty of soliders and only the Mandarin is in it. With the power of his rings he controls every facet of the Dragon and torments Tony by crushing him, tying him up with metallic wires and has Tony near death.

Iron Man (1998) #10

Sep 5, 2025

Just EPIC and totally underappreciated series... There are some amazing two page splashes of the robo dragon that look stunning. The highlights of this ish however is the conversations between the Mandarin and Tony. Plus all of this insanity and the creation of the monster turns out to all be a test he Madarin made for Tony Stark. For what ends we don;t really know but can only guess at. Anyway Tony is tied up and the Mandarin and him have a heart-to-heart, mono e mono, and these moments produce beautiful dark dialogue between them. You see the ish references how Iron Man defeated Mandarin in Iron Man Vol. 1 #312, and the Mandarin (Mandy for short) reincarnated as a janitor who worked in Stark Towers. This new life from this perspectvie gave Mandy a new evil plan. No longer did he want to destroy all the worlds technology to bring us back to feudalism and make China the world conquerors. Dont take my word for it here is Mandy and Tony: Mandy says, "My mind clouded -- my true memories only surfacing in dreams -- I endured unspeakable humiliation for one such as I. But I must thank you -- and the heart -- for such a valuable lesson." Tony confused, "A lesson --? Mandy goes on, " I'd thought to destroy technology -- to erase two thousand years of progress and restore feudalism. But I discovered -- That feudalism was not dead, merely transformed as I. Coolies, masters, magistrates, mandarins -- the manual labor of peasants generated power, which flowed ever upward -- growing greater at each level, until it rested in the hands of the truly deserving -- the noble classes. And nothing was changed -- My coolie labor enriched those above me, and above them -- until it reached yu. Anthony Stark. Feudal Lord of a modern age." TOny disgusted, "Not lord..." Mandy continues, "How foolish to reject what I should have sought to understand. And more foolish still, to rage at the idea of Iron Man, a vassal, as my greatest foe -- rther than see beyond him, to my true enemy." Tony also finds out here that the Mandarin wasn't behind everything, just the death squad in the beginning, so there still remains many unanswered questions as to who else is after Ton. We are then shown something about Madame Masque in her secret HQ getting murdered by an unknown killer. Not sure I remember what that has to do wit anything. While this is going on the Guardians and the Avengers are trying every trick in the book to take out the giant Dragon ship with no success. The epic conversation continues: Mandy "But ahh -- then my dreaming ind awakened -- and I returned to myself! It is a thrill few people in the world can share, I know -- But surely Anthony, you are among them! To know you are superior --- in mind, in body, in spirit. EVERYTHING! To know that power is your birthright -- to know that untold thousands exist on thisworld for no reason but to serve you-- To channel their power through your empire, be it of land or of business -- channeling it upward to fuel you, to fuel your glory!" Iron Man repulsed goes back at Mandy with "It doesn't -- power doesn't work that way Mandy. Or it shouldn't... The people who worked for me -- wrked at Stark Enterpises -- Werent slaves! They didn;t work because they were property -- They worked there by choice, to better their lives, provide for their families! Employees not vassals -- Give their employers their best because they hope and trust that employers will do the same. And they'll be rewarded in kind, paidfairly for their efforts. Too often employees are disappointed -- Disappointed by people like you, who see loyalty as a one way street -- who think they have a right to power. Instead of earning it by winning their employees loyalty fairly! Mandy saddened by this explanation, "You disappoint me, Anthony -- mouthing such populist cant, as if you've been brainwashed by the world's ignorant rabble. BUT by all means, go on -- And convince me if you can -- How there can possibly be any sort of parity between those who sweat and toil in the fields -- and men such as ourselves..." We never really here a verbal counter argument by Tony because as they were conversing he was figuring out ow to slowly regain control of his suit and break free from Mandy's hold. Iron Man flies around to find the very core of the roo beast and with all the taunting and talk of Mandy Tony stayed focus and aimed at the core. Mandy was overjoyed that Tony ignored the all the emotional obstacles and mental games andproved to Mandy that Tony is the one and only TRUE ENEMY. As the beast is falling apart Iron Man attempts to save Mandy but Mandy throws himself itno the fire. This was epic beyond words, as good as any movie you can watch...Great end to this little arc!

Ooooff! This issue jumped the shark! I enjoyed issue #1 and #2, but this issue turned me off completely. The Joker getting a bullet in the head, shot multiple times in the chest area (as he shows to the doctor he holds hostage to help him), falls in cold ocean water, then he gets the bullet removed from his head with no anesthesia. What is this Saw IV? I forgot which movie it was but I'm pretty sure Jigsaw had brain surgery the same way. I thought it was stupid then, the concept is still stupid now. I don't care if it's the Joker getting his head open, okay sure, he tore his face off once but it's just kind of redundant, it's just purely for shock value or absurdity. (Oh but it's the Joker it should be absurd), too a point. The only difference, Saw is just stupid. But your playing with "The Joker". Feel like he is being thrown around like a rag doll and treated like shit without any good purpose or narrative that is remotely satisfying. That's if this Joker is even the real Joker. Done with this comic, and after that lame WildC.A.T.s comic, I'm not going to be looking for any Matt Rosenburg comics for a long time or maybe ever again. Lastly, the art on these comics are okay at best nothing great. You would think for the Joker you would really try to do something great, but I'm not feelin' it Mr. Crabs.

Really good story, can't wait for the next issue! Geoff Johns does an excellent job giving the cartoonist Muddy a real-life feel. Then bringing Junkyard Joe back in makes it a unique tale for sure! This second issue took more time building up Muddy, what happened to him between now in his old retired life from his experience in Vietnam from issue #1. Without too much exposition or too many details, the story gets the right rhythm on getting the reader to relate to Muddy. Losing his buddies from Vietnam who still haunt him in his dreams, his wife who died from cancer, and the tole of life in general makes for an interesting character. Issue #3 is definitely going to get really sci-fi especially how it ended on this cliffhanger, plus Geoff Johns revealing the "Unnamed War" timeline. I highly recommend jumping into this series while it is fresh, it's gonna be a hell of a ride!

Not really knowing much about this character I gave this a try and enjoyed it. Like other reviewers on here I feel the same that her design in this ish is bland. But the design on ish 2 looks phenomenal so hopefully it changes. Story was nothing amazing but kind of cookie-cutter anime vibes, for me it specifically took inspiration from Bleach. Her Darkchilde trying to take over is very much like Ichigo Kurosaki' Hollow that is always trying to take him over. Her sword and fighting demons make me think of this sorry can't help it!

This issue of Minor Threats felt like a faster read compared to the last two issues which were filled with plenty of writing. That is not a bad thing, this issue had more action. Which is weird to say because the last two had some great action too. We find out more about Scalpel and why she is the way she is. Some good stuff on her for sure! The funniest part of this issue was when they enter a time-warped part of the city and run all around in different dimensions being chased by different iterations of The Searcher. This was hilariously drawn and almost feels like a parody on "the multiverse" of comics we all know about. The characters are great, most of the attention was on Scalpel this time since she had to save Playtime from a bullet wound. Without saying more, Minor Threats continues to be a very imaginative, well-written, well-drawn, semi-spoof on comics. Yet at the same time is doing a good enough job where it is building up a universe of characters and world setting that is very likable and should be taken seriously! Can't wait to read issue #4!

After finishing the lackluster Alyssa Wong 2023 short run I decided to go back in time to this. I have all the premiere hardcovers of this run and never had a chance to read it so I am finally doing so. The Premiere hc starts off with Giant Size intro first and just shows you how this all takes place after the House of M events which I never read. At first I was worried I would need to understand that arc but luckily I don't and the rest of this run is solely focused on Carol. Issue #1 starts off with Ms. marvel feeling like she isn't being the best she can be. That she was made an avenger just for being Ms. marvel and that she needs to prove herself through more trials and tribulations. As she's talking about where she wants to go in life she is talking to her close friend Jessica Drew who wonders why Ms. marvel would feel this way as she reminds her of some of her greatest heroic achievements. This isn't enough and Ms. marvel is determined to do more. By the end of the ish she gets what she wished for. A fast flying anomaly comes crashing toward a town to fast even for Carol to catch and crashes into the town. Brood aliens come out causing havoc. She calls Cap whose to busy on a shield operation, she tells her to call the FF and she can't because she had "a night in Vegas with Johnny" so she feels awkward calling them. She comes to the conclusion that this is her chance to do what she said to Jessica and take this on solo. Just in this one ish Carol is already great and relatable, I like her self doubt and ambition to better herself. Unlike the Wong run which lacked any human qualities or any real tension this is off to a great start. Lastly and most importantly the art is excellent and very grounded. Not to stylized to be cartoon and not to photorealistic. Just right to stand out on its own with some beautiful environmental shots and welcome interior designs that make me feel like I'm in the room or restaurant the characters are dwelling in.

Ms. Marvel (2006) #2

#2 continues to be solid and has some good subtle world building. The Brood is here but out of desperation from being hunted to near extinction by this mysterious hunter alien they call Cru. Investigating the last surviving Brood Carol finds out the Brood led him here to get a favorite crystal of immense power. Carol is familiar with this and has seen it in military bases before. While Carol was knocked out Cru absorbed her memories to find its location. Ms. Marvel is pretty badass. When she was investigating the last Brood she killed it even after it told her everything. No survivors. Cru gets to the crystal before Ms. marvel could stop him and the ish ends there.

Damn read this ish so fast loved every second! The stakes are pretty high, Cru obtained the Carovite crystal which caused a huge reaction. It wiped out a whole town in Georgia of 3,000+ people and a military base like an atom bomb. The explosion caused Cru and Ms. Marvel to shoot strAight up into space. This caused all the oxygen to be sucked out in the explosion so when Ms. Marvel could make a move in space she was already suffocating. Going back down to regain her air, she had to compose herself and take a deep breath to make a quick and decisive attack on Cru. Blowing Cru up she fell down the earth and fell unconscious only to be found by the beautiful Fantastic Four. I couldn't believe that an entire town was killed off, Marvel has some balls then I guess lmao. What I like is this sets up that there will be more deadly ventures where nothing is guaranteed. I high stakes, gives a story some more meaning!

In this ish Carol learns that people are blaming her for what happened in Georgia, her publicist Sarah thinks this is great for her either way. Her publicist is so forceful and extremely intrusive of Carol's life throughout these issues it makes me wonder if she is some villain in disguise waiting to strike or build Carol up and destroy her? Doctor Strange makes an appearance here to help Carol figure out what is going on with the villain the Traveler. The traveler commits a Trojan horse in the Sanctum of Strange when Carol leaves and is in the lead here because he now possessed the wand of Watoomb. Never heard of this traveler but he's pretty cool. The explanation for the traveler is that he is still connected to the House of M reality that no longer exist and has this connection with Ms. Marvel. His connection to the now non-existent reality makes him dangerous and volatile. Strange before getting tricked by Traveler explains his true intention to wipe the ma from the magical connection. This sounds like it would be deadly. Lastly I appreciate how the writer Reeds respects Doctor Strange and Carol doesn't treat him like a joke like how Alyssa Wong made her act in her 2023-24 run. In that shit run Carol and the self insert Yuna character would throw cracks at every line Strange would say. It was annoying AF, in here you clearly see Carol has deep respect for the Sorcerer Supreme.

These issues really knock it out of the park. The traveler shows how deadly and dangerous he is when he forces Ms. Marvel to almost die in an alternate reality where the human race gets devoured by an alien insect race in mere seconds. Traveling the many multiverse to continue gathering his power while also going insane the Traveler is pretty damn cool. By far the best thing about these issues is the art by Del La Torre, some of the best work I've seen. The battle with traveler overwhelms Dr. Strange and Carol eventually that builds up to this epic Sensational moment where Carol and Strange huddle close and combine their powers to fight back. The art during those moments felt animated and alive to me and the final one two energy shot was beautiful indeed. This ish ends with Tony Stark calling Carol telling her to meet him before seeing Cap. But the last page has this again beautiful rendition of our boy Captain America in her room already requesting to talk to her. Now I'm not reading the whole Civil war arc at this point and I already know the basics about it so I'm still going to read the Ms. Marvel Civil War parts anyway. Even if I don't get everything I just want to see more of De La Torre's artwork.

While I'm not enjoying this as much as I did issues #1-5 this is still solid. Some good action shots of Carol and Wonder oy going after Spider-Woman and her man for going against the Superhero registration act. Some good dialogue moments but I'm looking forward to when this goes back to the solo theme of Ms. Marvel.

This was a good ish, Carol is doing what she believes is right by enforcing the Super Hero Registration act, even going as far as going after Julia and confiscating her in front of her daughter Rachel. Before this Max (Julia's bf) who was caught first told Carol how she is in the wrong. For a minute I thought she would change her stance but instead she refused to see the light and continues to follow Iron Man's path instead of Cap. But in this ish you see her definitive stance of the law start to break after the traumatic fight she had ruining a mother and daughters life. I think Carol will see the light and she even said Cap is like a father to her but there are lines you don't cross. I didn't read Civil War so I'm not sure why Carol is so gung-ho. The only info I know is this whole law started because a bunch of school kids died in an accident during some hero villain fight or something? That's bad but why hold the hero accountable and make them pay for something started by a villain? Although I should probably read Civil War one day so I have the full context. Anyway ish ends with a surprise visitor, my girl Rogue! Can't wait to read next ish!

I guess the Civil War part is over and I won't see anything about it unless I read that.. Anyway, this was good ish, another version of Carol ended up on this world because she allowed Cru to attain the Cavorite Crystal and blow up the whole world instead of what main Carol did, the explosion shot her through the universe somehow making her land in this multiverse. What's really funny is I wonder if this universe Marvel killed off was the 1998 world. I say this because in the Iron Man 1998 run Carol and Tony supported each other when they would fall back on alcohol. Sometimes Carol would get into some bad dark places too and almost kill Iron Man in her drunken rage. I wonder if that universe is now dead because she fell back into one of her dark places and instead of doing the right thing she lost her entire world? More potential evidence of this is she still calls herself Warbird where she is from. If that's the case that's sad because I liked the 1998 universe in its own weird way lmao

This conflict between the two Carol's was more entertaining than it sounds. What really impressed me is how Ms. Marvel doesn't hold back at all sometimes. There's a part where Rogue tries to break up the fight between Ms. Marvel and Warbird and Ms. Marvel gets pissed off and gives her a good kick in the ribs knocking her out of the game immediately. Sickened by her psycho alternate self she fights almost dying a couple times, we learn that Warbird has traveled multiple multiverse and has already killed dozens of Rogues and Carol's who got in her way. None of the other versions killed Rogue and forgave her like our main Ms. Marvel. But this Ms. Marvel after some struggle finally got the upper hand and got behind Warbird and shot a devastating photon beam at the back of her head. It looked like her head came off as Warbird fell from the sky with smoke obscuring her head. But she was horribly scarred from the blast, she lost all her hair and her face was scarred. Ms. Marvel conflicted on whether to kill her or not, she spares her and sends her off to Shield. Rogue is injured and Beast tells her she'll be alright in a few days but says to Carol "You need to go now." Feeling guilty she flies up into space to debate with herself if she is a good person or not. There's some great artwork throughout especially in these scenes.

Not the best in this run so far but not terrible. Torre seems to have given up on his art direction here sadly... It gets the job done but it doesn't do anything to stand out, most of the beautiful interiors and world design that made this run really stand out are now gone and more simplified panels are in. The only good thing is Reed continuing Ms. Marvels arc in the way he is doing it. Doomsday Man has awakened again but this time is trying to bring apocalypse by unleashing Targoths from the AIM facility he has been stored at. Ms. Marvel still seems to be conflicted about being an avenger or not because on her date she is happier with the regular guy treating her like a normal woman than she was with Wonder Man. Guess her and Wonder Man are off now?

I guess the critics had a short attention span back in 2007 because they stopped commenting around this ish. Sad really because this was really 👍 good stuff. Doomsday Man almost kills Anya and drives Carol to pull him out of his suit which is almost fatal for him. Carol almost died by getting infected by the Targoths zombies, when she blacked out and unknown group healed her and brought her back. After defeating Doomsday Man, Carol feels the darkness seeping in, finding that she wished she killed Doomsday Man for good. Simon (Wonder Man) shows up and she feels guilty inside for really thinking about her date with William Wagner. I think she should end up with Simon because she might not be compatible with a regular guy like Wagner. Or maybe Wagner is her version of MJ? Well there has been more dialogue between her and Wonder Man but maybe if the story allows more time for her and Wagner to develop than maybe it will work better. Also we get a panel of Ms. Marvels publicist Sarah being informed about Carol dating William Wagner, clearly not enthused about this Sarah responds "Well have to take care of that." Was I correct previously when I thought this publicist might be some kind of villain or is she wanting Ms. Marvel to only associate with Super heroes for fame? Lastly it ends with the AIM agent being judged by a jury of his peers, but they keep him alive because currently AIM is looking to kill MODOK for being in their way and this agent knows where to find him. I'm curious to see more of Ms. Marvel develop a life in both regards but it looks like she will be fighting the rides here.

Solid, AIM committed a terror attack in Indianapolis using a DNA Bomb on 100 victims. Iron Man pisses off Carol that she punches him straight up into the sky. Telling him if SHIELD have been chasing the bad guys instead maybe this wouldn't happen. Iron Man rebuts with how Carol seemed gung-ho about it with how she handled Julia and this made her go apeshit on Iron Man. Iron Man did this on purpose because he wanted to see where she stands and to be the next leader of the Avengers. Carol declines this and instead wants to create a focused strike force without the bureaucratic chains of SHIELD and the overpowered use of the Avengers. Also this series must still be tied to 1998 Iron Man because Carol says how Tony has been with her in AAA, so I was wrong about how Marvel killed off the 1998 universe from the previous Warbird fight issues. Carol has it out with her publicist and Sarah really diminishes Carol's character as being nothing to special and hard to market. Carol does this pretty cool speech (check it) about not needing publicity or praise or doing anything for attention like adopting kids from another country for the greater good (her words). She's so badass and not a pansy at all lie some people would have you believe.

Ms. Marvel uses her Strike force to locate Julia and right the wrong she did. Julia is unable to forgive Carol for ruining her life, and also she got free from prison because in the Civil War run Captain America and his team busted out all the superheroes Iron Man apprehended. Anyway when they find Julia's daughter Rachel with Julia's parents her parents tell her to get out, that she should allow Rachel to live a normal life. She refuses and against their will takes Rachel away, Carol goes with it to fix her mistake. Despite the valiant effort for forgiveness, Julia tells Carol and Simon she will never forgive and forget what they did to her. Might seem unreasonable but she has every right to feel this way toward Ms. Marvel and Wonder Man. Her whole life could have been totally destroyed over the ridiculous registration act, but even with this her life will not be totally normal again.

So we find out here that the DNA Bomb is actually a cure for MODOKs degeneration. But Monica of Aim wants MODOK gone for her own reasons and Madigan playing a double agent on multiple fronts wants Ms. Marvel MODOK and Monica to all clash. The real question is who is Madigan? Is he a solo act or working for a higher power and why?

Solid ish that reveals Madigan is MODOKs son who wants to fracture AIM to make it splinter cells, instead of one whole organization. Madigan escaping with MODOK reveals Ms. Marvel has a traitor in her lightning strikeforce. Simon obviously likes Ms. Marvel especially after she made out with him to break MODOKs mind control in the beginning of the comic but she doesn't talk about it with him since she seems to want to be with Wagner. But we also learn that Wagner is just a facade, someone with a secret identity, and only Sarah the publicist knows this. Lots of nice sub plots going on in this run. The art isn't Torre level art from 1-10 but Lopresti' is getting the hang of it.

There's a lot going on here in this ish. So MODOKs son Sean planted the DNA Bomb in MODOK in the middle of NYC. Carol and Simon get there in time but Carol ends up carrying MODOK into the sky and taking the DNA explosion head on. She starts changing from inside from her DNA and starts turning blue. This must be her half-kree form coming to the surface over her human side but she only looks monstrous because the DNA Bomb basically deforms you inside out. The mysterious voices that healed her in previous issues heal her in this ish too but she really feels the pain in this. Throwing up blacking out etc. So some crazy things happen after that. Monica the Scientist Supreme that they captured they left with their tech team member Baines who was the one responsible for allowing Sean and MODOK for escaping last ish. Well Monica breaks free of her ties and murders Baines point blank in the head. Then after the near death explosion, Sean sends out a message to all of AIM and successfully convinced them to break apart. During the transmission Monica comes in and puts a bullet in his head. With that done, what makes Ms. Marvel different is she can't seem to get everything right and fatal consequences aren't shy of happening in her experiences. Her other teammate Locke is totally damaged from the last uncoordinated battle in a hospital, Baines is dead and they found out he betrayed them because he was buried in debt from his father's cancer who eventually died, and that Sean gave him a way out. Carol didn't bring this information out and allowed Sean to be buried military style in honor. Carol is confident that she can handle the pressure but she is heavily conscious of the bloody fallout that follows her. Wagner no longer is answering her due to whatever blackmail the publicist has on him, and Simon is open to Carol but she seems distant to him unfortunately. Simon is pretty cool dude she might eventually give him a chance but now she seems stuck on what she doesn't have and what she lost atm. Lastly Sean is reanimated by a couple of AIM agents and looks like a b movie experiment gone wrong lmao

This is a good start to a new story arc for Ms. Marvel. Machine Man and Sleepwalker seem like two cool additions to the Lightning Strike team. Female heroes and villains are being kidnapped by the Puppetmaster and he's selling them to a mysterious buyer. Machine Man is really funny in this, hes a robot or something with a smart ass personality and some of the things he says are really funny. Ms. Marvel is still hoping Wagner will answer her calls. Anya gets kidnapped by Puppet Master too. So the interesting question is why is puppet Master doing this? It cant be anything to weird because 2007 was pre-modern-day-insanity era. That era started I would say 2015-2016 being generous. Sad to see this run didn't get much attention at the time 😕 Even the one critic who showed up for this ish at the time jokingly said "for the 12 of us who read this".

This was a smooth read, loved every panel and finished faster than Id like to. The action here was fun and the character dialogue is really almost perfect. Reed has been doing really great and now it seems he's got his rhythm down to excellence. Ms. Marvel gets beat down by Tigra and another character I forgot her name. Tigra poisons her and makes her go unconscious falling into the clutches of the Puppetmaster to be added to his growing collection. Meanwhile Machine Man, Sum and Sleepwalker go on a reconnaissance mission to learn more about what is going on in Chile. Having some funny dialogue with each other Anya falls into their lap and fights them. Machine Man blows a hole in a bar to knock her out and misses, Anya takes his head off which he screws back on later. Sleepwalker gets KOd during the fight and Sleepwalker's alien comes out and takes Anya out. Sleepwalkers alien is pretty cool to how he talks. Luckily he can see Anyas mental connection so now the team will find the source of Puppet Master and help Carol. This ish was peak tongue-cheek dialogue loved it. 💕

I only gave it a little less because this issue took a huge hit on the art... I don't know what happened but everything here looks so rough and pre-rendered. Otherwise Carol is really getting dark, she lets the Puppet Master blow himself up in this. And it has this epic page where she is walking out from the flames talking about what she is becoming, what being invincible makes someone become. I'm really loving her team Machine Man, Sleepwalker and Sum so glad to see they are going to be around for a good while in this run. We also find out that she's turning blue not because she is half-kree like I thought, I think that was a thing in future comics. But I forgot after she killed Cru in the earlier issues a piece of him went in her. So it was Cru this whole time reforming and now he showed up to attack, that's how the ish ends pretty EPIC stuff here.

This was epic, I enjoyed the Puppet Master Arc but that was really just a nice break and now we're getting to the real meat here baby. This was a pretty epic ish with plenty of subplots still going strong. So Cru turned out to not be the enemy of earth that we were led to believe early on in the series. Instead Cru is the last of her species that was completely wiped out by the Brood. Coming to Earth has not been fully explained why yet but Cru and Ms. Marvel learn to combine their powers to prepare for the coming Brood Queen or go extinct. The Brood are coming as it ends, I love the Brood. I don't know what came first I think Warhammer beat Marvel too the punch nonetheless The Brood is Marvel's version of The Tyranid and I love that. William Wagner has been calling Carol back wanting to talk to her despite being black mailed by Sarah. Simon also is finally opening up more to Carol telling her over the voice machine how much he misses her. Who will end up with her? One other awesome panel was during the fight in the beginning Sum gets blown to smithereens and is nothing but a skeleton. He somehow regenerates next panel as if nothing happens. What or who is Sum really? If I had to guess he's some kind of Kree maybe? Machine Man loses half his fraggin body, and in the middle of the ish he has an Life Model Decoy (LMD) that came with his sign up toward the Lightning Strike Team. Funny enough it's not a male body but his head gets screwed onto a female body that freaks Anya out. What the hell is Machine Man up to? And Sum is unable to call the Avengers or SHIELD because according to Simon they changed old codes but doesn't say why. (Most likely because of the Secret Skrull Invasion going on during this time).

The pacing here is top class, I was reading horrible comics these past couple of days like the new Wonder Woman and some of the latest Action comics and it was a challenge just to get through those. This ish and last were just pure pleasure. Simon, Sum, Machine Man, Anya and Sleepwalker figured out how to track Carol whose on Monster island which is in the Bermuda triangle. The rest is about Cru and Carol struggling for control of Carol's body as they fend off Brood on the island. We learn more about Cru and that her people turned her into the ultimate weapon to get vengeance. According to the panels Cru is equivalent or as strong as Carol's Binary form. Although I doubt she's that strong maybe close. There was some great inner conflict with Carol and Cru was breaking down her character to get to her mentally creating some tense and dramatic scenes. The dialogue is still as smooth as butter and each character for me retains a unique voice I can visualize in my mind. The action flows great in here, still amazes me how this comic didn't get much eyes. Ends with a great full page revealing the Brood Queen she looks great 👍

Ms. Marvel (2006) #23

Aug 29, 2025

I have to stop using the word epic for each Ms. Marvel issue for the sake of redundancy so I will use a proper synonym such as marvellous (pun intended). No but seriously, in this ish we get a bit more backstory which helps me because I never read any of the older comics with Ms. Marvel. So the Brood Queen was responsible for doing experiments on Carol and turning her into Binary I'm pretty sure. And at that time Carol escaped killed all the Brood and took out the Queen. Although she crystallized and became invincible instead really. As Binary Carol destroyed the Space ways and the Brood planet so how the hell did the Queen end up on earth if she lost her means of travel? Secondly the Brood Queen makes a damn fine villain for Carol. She is a stark contrast, a giant hideous alien monster that seems to destroy all life and have Brood dominate the food chain. Carol fights back with the loss of her powers due to Cru not finishing her power transfer. Cru lies dead in front of the Queen and the Queen impales Carol through the stomach and kills her. Leading to a glorious battle cry that two of the greatest enemies of the Brood lie dead. Simon and company finally arrived at monster island only to be greeted by the victory-induced Brood flying all over the sky. The team is slowly getting overtaken by the horde and the panels are so well drawn and placed I swear it felt like watching a classic movie in my mind. Sum comes to the conclusion that if this is it he'll take em all out with the nuclear bomb inside their ship. Anyas reaction to this moment was great, this wasn't a game and now in mere seconds all of their lives could end in a flash. Of course right on que because remember this is a comic (a damn fine one at that) Ms. Marvel and Cru connect and transform her to fight back. She's got a beautiful new design for this new form too to 👢 boot!!

Ms. Marvel (2006) #24

Aug 29, 2025

Critics gave this a 7 oh my God even back then these "critics" were snorting something unnatural... Okay where to start because this ish has to be by far the best of the best in this run in terms of action, pacing and overall execution... Carol with her Binary powers goes after the Brood Queen and throws her down onto the island. Cru shoots the Queen in the skull and show sup in her original form thanks to her and Carol's bond. As Carol and Cru talk for a moment the Queen sticks her tail through Crus head and throws her like a ragdoll into a body of lava. This was brutal and badass, and the panels of Queen and Ms. Marvel back talking and beating the shit out of each other was fraggin awesome 😎👍 Carol's Binary powers shut off and she has to face the Queen on her own in a weakened state. (I want to add the artwork for when Ms. Marvel goes batshit crazy with her Binary powers are amazing work). As Carol and the Queen go at it, Ms. Marvel takes the nuclear bomb that the Queen took away from Sum and drags the Queen up into space. Taking a deep breath 🫁 Carol puts the bomb in the Queens mouth and shoots it with her photons. The Queen is invincible so the goal was to make sure the nuclear detonation impact would shoot the Queen away from earth 🌎 and hopefully goes far far away at least for the foreseeable future. Carol crashes to earth into the ocean falls unconscious and is eventually picked up by Wonder Man. All of the Lightning Strike Team characters have their little conclusions and I guess move on with their lives. Anya is happy to see her dad and was forced to really grow up from near death. Machine Man is happy to have a male body with new weapons again, but Carol isn't too happy and there's this really good inner dialogue. She says "I don't really have a home. I don't have a family. I have William I think--And there's Simon, even though I've brushed him off to many times lately." She goes on "Listen to yourself Carol. You suck. Life sucks. Everything sucks. Yeah. I know. But Cru aside from powering me up made me face myself. Who I was. Who I am." There's a nice contemplative four panels of her sitting in the shower thinking "I rush into things blindly. Or I run away from them entirely. I am a coward and a killer." She is very hard on herself and isn't that what makes a hero a hero? Peter Parker is like this and same with many other heroes. I noticed in the modern Captain Marvel they would never even think of writing Carol like this at all especially in the horrible movie. So the comic ends with Iron Man talking to Sum about the Skrull Invasion of Superhumans. He accused Ms. Marvel of being a Skrull this whole time. BULLSH*t I say! This was a great way to end this story arc and really makes me think it would have been a great film if done right like this and with the right actress and costume design and supporting characters like Sum, Machine Man, Anya, Sleepwalker and of course Wonder Man. I would love to see this as a movie but nah instead we get Resting Bi**h face Breech Larsonm shame....

Love it but I will miss Lopresti's art 🎨 nonetheless Melo is good to. This ish has a cool throwback to an older Captain Marvel or Ms. Marvel comic that shows Carol when she worked at NASA with Captain Marvel. A skrull attempted to kidnap him and Carol killed the Skrull and saved Marvel. It turns out that Skrull she killed has a son in disguise as the X-Men Colossus doing some seedy things with AIM up in the beginning of the ish. I was right that Carol is not a skrull and some Skrull is walking around like her. Nonetheless no one trust her. She calls William after he rejects her at Sarah's bidding, and he is with the Skrull Carol unknowingly. He quickly figures this out and tells Carol to come quickly. She's too late and finds William dead on his bed. Agent Sum finds her with Williams body making it look like she is the Skrull. Is William really dead? I don't think so but it certainly was a sweet twist 🪢

Nice so we quickly have the two Ms. Marvels face off and prove which one is real. We also find out I was correct that William is a Kree and is not dead. The Skrull disguised as Ms. Marvel shape shifted into the dead William previous ish. He got away. But why did he run if he is a Kree why didn't he fight? We also find out here the Agent Sum goes all the way back to ancient China 1300s and fought against Khan. It doesn't say what he is I guess he's just immortal like Wolverine? Does he have the same thing (obviously not Adamantium), so that would make Sum older than Wolverine because doesn't Wolvy go as far back to the American Civil War? Correct me if I'm wrong. I must say Machine Man is both funny and creepy at the same time. Like why the hell does he have a Monica Rambow robot fetish?! What is going on here?! It was cool too see the Lightning Strike Team go after Carol too some great panels work in this ish throughout.

Damn this series is not afraid to shed blood wow! So the captured Skrull doesn't tell the team much except for the fact that William has been captured by AIM and is in Orlando. The team tries to locate him and finds a false lead. Carol gets pissed off that she can't find Will and goes off on the female Skrull captive. Throwing her around and threatening her, the Skrull laughs at Carol's futile attempts and somehow blows herself up. There was no explanation on how or maybe this was all a set up to begin with. The explosion takes down the Lightning Strike Ship kills most of Carol's crew except for the main cast Machine Man, Sleepwalker and Sum. Although Sleepwalker almost died because Rick was near death. All the soldiers were killed, whether in the explosion or falling from the sky to their deaths. Carol is horrified and blames herself yet again especially after finding their Doctor horribly mangled in the debris. After all this the team takes a break and Simon and Carol have a heart to heart 💞. Confessing all her past misdeeds, killings and poor decisions to Simon, Simon refuses to tell her that she is a piece of sh*t like she wants him to, and they end up mashing it and f**King finally!! But it leaves you off with the feeling that they just kind of used each other to decompress from all the insanity. I think the story is going to lead to Carol being in love with the Kree William. But hey at least Ms. Marvel and Simon f**ked they deserved a good time with each other.

So I'm not reading the Secret War comics while reading this but I know the overall jist of Secret War anyway mostly from watching The Avengers Assemble Cartoon the 2010 version. I already know about the skrulls using all the different powers of the superheroes so it's no big deal that I didn't read the main event. I'm here for Ms. Marvel and maybe one day I will read Civil War and Secret War. Anyway this is carnage and beautiful action throughout. Some panels have some magnificent Ms. Marvel poses and she really doesn't hold back here at she goes full War-Mode here. She doesn't even care if she scares the civilians she's doing what she has to do to defeat the existential threat of the skulls and she does it beautifully 💜

Bro if I could give this an 11/10 I would! Adriana Melo has been hitting home run after home run with these war issues! The carnage, the destruction it's very dynamic in this and the flow of reading is mesmerizing and enticing panel by panel. Last ish and this ish Melo conjures up some really iconic moments for Ms. Marvel that look like they should be in film. As I'm reading this ish I'm thinking we should hire Zack Snyder to direct some Ms. Marvel movies and other Marvel stuff. Marvel needs some dark like this run has baby. Oh and we find out that the Skrull that destroyed Carol's ship two three issues ago had the power of Nitro so when Carol punched her she blew up. We find this out here when Carol is being outnumbered by a horde of skrulls and she finds a skrull showing similar signs as the female one who blew up. That little detail filled in the gap nicely for me. Again can't get over Melos cinematic feel to this like the first couple of pages Ms. Marvel walks out of he smoke and just looks so badass and beautiful at the same time. You see feminist, you can have a female be badass and feminine at the same time, eat me!!

This was pretty good, not the best of the run but Reed does really good with his dialogue. Like for me a writer is great when as I'm reading I hear unique voices for each character even ones I'm not familiar with because of how well and thought out the writing is. So this kid Gavin has the ability to alter reality just by reading words of a book. He does this by reading one of Carol's books about her time as Binary and accidentally almost destroys reality but with the help of Carol she guides him to use his imagination instead to get them out of the situation. This works out but Carol comes to the realization that she might have made a monster because now Gavin can manipulate reality without the use of written words. Sending her back with Simon (Wonder Boy) to the restaurant like nothing happened, Carol is freaking out about the consequences.

Huh. I'm not going to lie, I actually really enjoyed this. At first I went in not expecting much but I actually like the characters in this. I didn't read the Steve Fox Spider-woman run yet I'm still finishing the previous Pachinko run first so I don't know the whole backstory for these characters but Steve does a good job giving you some insight on what you might have missed. This is a new kind of era where a comic cover sucks but the actual material inside is good. Like that cover is so bad but luckily some reviews even reviews that did not like this issue peaked my interest to check it out. I like the personalities for me they are not too much, or overbearing/annoying for how young the characters are suppose to be. I'm adding this to my pull list.

One World Under Doom (2025) #1

Aug 17, 2025

This was pretty good, I haven't read the other tie-ins just the FF run but it's okay it makes sense mostly with some references that help. Doom has taken over with the cover of benevolence and obviously it's a lie that the avengers and company try to disprove. Only falling into Dooms plot even further, Doom by the end of the comic has successfully convinced the people around the world that "Doom is prosperity". He did this by killing Zemo and Skull months before and taking control of Hydra through Doombot disguised versions of Skull and Zemo. Using Hydra to do good building hospitals, helping the people etc. The avengers proving this only made Doom look better. As to what his total plan is I don't know because I haven't read the tie ins. I don't think this is connected to the Ultimates series I've read a year ago where the Evil Reed changed everything. So this is a whole new evil plot I'm just reading in on and enjoying.

One World Under Doom (2025) #2

Aug 17, 2025

So to put it simply... Doom is a globalist lol. I now think his plan is too literally bring globalism and "world peace" never before seen. He secretly talks to Reed and Sues daughter Valeria and tries to convince her that his intentions are true and he seems glory in doing the impossible. Doesn't seem like he is doing any kind control like the avengers think, he is just winning over the people by doing great things in insane amounts of time. He's creating devoted followers. It looks to me that the Avengers can't accept this and are trying to find a classic villain answer but it looks like they won't find it anytime soon. I'm actually curious too at this point because it looks to me like this is more of an ideological battle going on here that the good guys can't win. Because Doom is giving everyone what they want, how do you fight that?

10
One World Under Doom (2025) #3

Aug 17, 2025

I knew it! I knew Doom persuaded the world naturally. The Avengers finally accept this fact that Doom swooned the world as Sorcerer Supreme. However there is a consequence. While Doom has been doing his Frank Underwood House of Cards impression, he has been neglecting his primary duties as Sorcerer Supreme. Dormammu is now a threat and has been left unchecked by Doom. How could Doom miss such an important detail?! Nonetheless this puts things in balance because how else could Doom be stopped if he has used human nature itself to gain Globalism? This was epic, and I was caught by surprise when Dormammu popped out of nowhere, can't wait to see how Doom wiggles his way out of this one. And no I don't think he can do what Benedict Cumberbatch did in Dr. strange movie lmfao

One World Under Doom (2025) #4

Aug 17, 2025

Now I'm one of the pro-Doomers... IM IN LOVE WITH DOOM AND THIS MINI SERIES! Like Holy hell Doom really gets thrown around and beaten like a piece of meat by Dormammu. Having no options and being seconds away from oblivion Doom conjures up his last respite. He frees all of Earth's heros from Dormammu's crumbling pocket dimension and sics them after him. This is the final battle, life or oblivion, and this is End Game levels of epic here but with Doom at the helm I love this. The last page where Doom is injured and all the heroes come charging from behind him is classic and elevates Doom to a whole new level omg...

One World Under Doom (2025) #5

Good read, with Dormammu defeated by Doom, the Avengers still quarrel over the idea of Doom being Emperor. Thor starts to see the reasoning of Doom being a benevolent leader for midgard (earth). Iron Man disagrees and so do most of the avengers. Thors argument however was pure logic and was hard to deny, until of course Maria Hill pops out of nowhere to tell them that SHIELD has dirt on Doom. We'll see.

Damn this is so good... Doom and Reed agree to debate live, this is a distraction so Widow, Scarlet and Sue can go inside Latveria to see what Doom has been hiding. He's sacrificing millions of his own people to empower his sorcerer supreme powers and be so god like. They expose this live and finally break the facade of Doom brilliantly. First the only thing that doesn't make sense is the order these issues are being released. Shouldn't this story have come out before the new FF#1? The story doesn't align. But that does not take away from this ish, Reed and Dooms debate face off was tense and great.

Jan 18, 2025

What a disappointment... I was really looking forward to this, but wow I couldn't believe how poor the writing was and how jumbled and stupid the whole plot comes off. The art is not enough either to keep my attention. There are some good panels but most of this feels rushed. I liked how it was showing how she was figuring out how to survive but it lost focus at some point I think when those creatures disturbed her in the cave she was sleeping in. Coming from a Super Rogue fan, like I have all of her comics, love them all even the not so popular ones. But this is awful. If I was writing this I would have really emphasized the savage land and bare basic survival. Really play on that more than this. What really pisses me off is they made sure to make a great looking cover including the variants which are superb pieces. But that's it, inside is an empty shell like your average materialistic American female who only cares about money and status. Do not buy, stay away, I was only fooled by dat Savage Rogue look baby lol.

BAD-ASS. I hesitated to check this out but once I picked it up I couldn't stop. Just the beginning where Wolverine tells the millennial off by crushing his smartphone was so gratifying. Then going back to 1909 to see Sabretooth break Wilson Fisk' great grandfather I think out of Ravencroft asylum was so nasty and brutal I couldn't believe how gritty the art was I love it! I am getting Vampire the Masquerade and Gangs of New York vibes but with Wolverine and Sabretooth lore as a twist! This is so brutal especially that finishing move at the final panel of this comic, this is an absolute must read! Can't wait for the next ish!

Okay so I'm reading the Absolute Power event because it annoyingly intervenes on my favorite solo runs I'm currently reading (Wonder Woman, and Superman). A bit of a pain in the ass because it takes over I think 3 issues of Wonder woman and same with Superman. It's not too much of an undertaking but it's still annoying but I'm up for the challenge. Anyway on to this Dream team ish. Not bad not great, art sucks which is surprising because its Eddy Barrows story so far is okay. Imo The new character Dreamer is DC version of America Chavez but instead of her multi-versal powers and stuff this one has the ability to go through every living things dreams. Her costume design is pretty close to Chavez oh and yeah apparently she is trans. Which makes no sense because they show her as a girl when her mother died and she still looks like a woman. Okay I did some research and found that Nicole Maine's was born a male and transitioned to female in teenage years so I guess Dreamer is the author who was created in the Supergirl show which I never watched. I don't know if it's necessary to self insert but whatever it's not that bad here. Anyway Amanda Waller sends this dream team to do something I don't know what yet but Dreamer envisions Waller being the bringer of much death.

I'm sorry but this is bad. The only good thing out of this ish was the conversation between Dreamer and Amanda but otherwise Eddy Barrows seemed to be out of the game here with his art. His heart was not in this one, the way he draws Dreamer she looks ugly and terrifying, but he does draw Amanda well imo. I know it's not because he's a bad artist, some of the best artwork of his was in his Action comics issues so for some reason he didn't seem to be into this, maybe he isnt into the subject? Nonetheless the writing is mostly horrible and I find myself really forcing my eyes to go panel to panel here...

This is utter trash my God can't wait to finish this, please tell me this author doesn't write most of the absolute power event I might just stop reading altogether if that's the case... I swear most of the dialogue feels like it was written by a spoiled 5 year old and this Dreamer is just as annoying as Marvels Chavez. Both have the exact same motives, "hates evil racist, xenophobia and loves refugees". Jesus do these people have any more to their identity than the average checklist Leftist handbook? Doesn't anyone get bored of these tropes after a while? For God sakes the only interesting thing out of this is Waller at this point but you even somehow turn Harley Quinn into a "Yes make your so moral so good I'm just here against my will" bullshit. Even DeadEye is somewhat more interesting but that's because he is Waller's nephew so that's the most interesting drama you can draw from this but even that is not playing up enough. I saw one critic saying this was the best iteration of the squad what are you smoking?!!!

Suicide Squad: Dream Team (2024) #4

Trash without a doubt. Again the writing feels like a 5 year old having a temper tantrum about nothing being fair and people are mean. Reducing Waller's motivations to simple "this is a man's world and I did this because I'ma woman and everything is against me". That's funny coming from a writer who is a trans, if life was so hard for women and so toxic, sexist and oppressive than who the hell would want to transition to a woman? Hell it is possible that some men transition because they think they will get more opportunities as a women in today's modern times. So please spare me the lecture of a man's world that's outdated and doesn't make sense anymore in today's times, maybe in the 50s you could use that trope but now it just comes off as fake and gay. Fake activism, fake virtue signals, fake fake fake.....

First thing I have to say about this ish is the art is BEAUTIFUL, the colors, the line work, really pops! Secondly the writing is on par, Williamson knows his Superman characters and I really feel like I'm jumping right into the world of Superman I'm familiar with. I hear each distinct character's voice perfectly! Luthor throughout is talking to Superman through his super hearing trying to convince him that he needs Luthor. Luthor goes so far to persuade Superman that he gives him his entire corporation now named "Supercorp". Allowing Superman to have access to his resources. At first Supes does not trust this. Obviously greater villains of Luthor's past re the reason why heis trying to get on Superman's good side.

10
Superman (2023) #2

Aug 9, 2025

In this ish Parasite has multiplied into millions of parasites destroying Metropolis, this ish allows for some great panels and action. This is the doing of the new villains Dr. Pharm and Grft, two men who seem capable of experimenting on super villains and turning them into something worse. You see them operating on Bizarro in some panels leaving the reader to wonder what the hell do they have planned for Bizarro to do? But that won;t be a thing for awhile. Graft and Pharm's designs are odd, strange and weirdly fit the story. Graft is like a shirtless mix of Ozzy Ozborne if he was to wear to much make up like Marilyn Manson. Pharm is like that villain from Mad Max 2014 if he didn;t have access to all the water and food. So Superman fgures out how to use Livewire and her powers to get all of Parasites in one place especially because Parasie is even multiplying by the cellular level inside everyone. The only thing that bored me a bit was Marilyn Moonlight. Here's why. A couple years ago I started reading some New 52 comics, I forgot which one it was but there was a part where one of the characters was visited by a ghost from the old west and they had to go back in time or something. That story trope bores the hell out of me everyime I can't believe they're still doing this trope... And didn't the lame mini-series based off the Gotham Knights game do this very same trope? Like when DC gets these weird story fetishes they never go away *cough* throwing around babies in the FLash and new Superman movies. But thankfully it was like only one panel of the boring Western trope so thats not enough for me to deduct any points from this perfect ish.

Funniest part of this comic is Lex Luthor flicking an almond into a prisoner's mouth because he's talking shit about how Superman is lame and has nothing on Batman. I liked this little detail because even though this is Lex Luthor and Superman has been his enemy forever, hearing Superman being called nothing is also a hit on Lex's ego. If Superman is lame what would that make his enemy? Besides that the story progresses more, Supes and Lex catch up and we learn that once Lex tried to do some good things on the streets of Metropolis when he was young. This is how he ran into the new villains of this series Graft and Pharm, but we don't really learn yet on why these guys got a bone to pick with Lex. I mean yeah he interrupted their operations in what he is telling Superman but can we really believe everything he says? Good ish. Oh yeah and we learn that Jimmy is bangin' Banshee.

Another solid read, only deducting points for the boring Moonlight character but again only one page. Everything else around that, the social aspect of the characters, and Lex getting stabbed to bloody hell and almost dying. Superman didn;t save him because in his last fight with Banshee he temporarily lost his super hearing, when he does find out Lex almost died Superman is really hard on himself for not being there to save him. Again emphasis on the art, it is phenomenal.

Superman (2023) #6

Aug 9, 2025

Well the art changed here but it's still really good in it's own way, but I do miss the use of colors previously and how things felt like they had a bit more depth to them. Nonetheless this is good. Lex is in the hospital recovering, Superman is learning more about Lex's secrets and finds a chained psych named Sammy deep underground. Superman feeling that Lex is not "judge, jury, executioner, decided that Sammy should be freed not knowing what he is. Obviously Sammy is dangerous and volatile, and chains up Suprman and gets away. Some god close up panels here of characters.

This was a big issue, and I'm really happy we finally got away from the Western time travel bull*sh*t. At first this ish started off kind of slow ad wordy, and wordy in terms of okay I get it lets get on with the story. The biggest turn thing that almost turned me off to this was the art style somehow the art style got worse than before. It's so Disney-fied, so cartoony and some of the characters so exaggerated where it looks like they are holding in a huge amount of piss and shit and are ready to blow up any second. Besides the garbage art style, the story here is what saved this ish for me. After you get through the bland talk of the first few pages, the action really starts when Lex's mother shows her true part in the play of Graft's plan. Dressed in Lex's armor, and pissed off for basically giving birth to the man who "stole" her corporation she goes out into Metropolis to spread an aerosolized form of Kryptonite that can now also kill humans. This gas was created by Lex during his youth "the good guy years" when he teamed up with Graft and Dr. Pharm because he was amazed at how they amassed a giant source of Kryptonite. So I was previously come what correct on how Lex was lying about his past being a full fledged hero. My only gripe with this concept is when he decided to create this weaponized version of Kryptonite why did he do it? No where in the story does it tell you if Lex even knew of Superman yet at this time, so what would he have gained from this without any knowledge of his eternal foe Superman yet? Plenty of holes in the story with that. Overall good ish, but issue 12 is where things really shine.

8.5
Superman (2023) #12

Aug 10, 2025

While the art in this is still not my taste, the armor designs of everyone in here really work well, and the action scenes are cut and direct. We get more information on Lex's past with Graft and Pharm but honestly it still doesn't fill out any of the plot holes I pointed out from the previous issue. It was fun watching Lex get in his special armor and fight his mother over the skies of Metropolis, clearly Lex ends up saving the day with Supes direction, new villains defeated, plot foiled. Pretty simple stuff here, nothing to complex. Instead of going onto the next issue right away I'm going to go back to Action Comics that I've missed to get more information on the backstory. Specifically after finishing this 12th issu, it ends with saying the nextepic "House of Brainiac Part One begins in Action comics #1064 and then come back here at issue #13." So Im going back to a collected TPB of Action comics to catch up.

More interesting sub plots coming out of this. Brainiac seems to be dying of having too much knowledge. Lex is offering to help him and give him Superman. Clearly Lex is up to something but I have a feeling he is only playing a role and is still going to benefit Superman in the end somehow. Lobo and Supes team up and fight the Czarnians. Kara and Superboy escape the pods of Brainiac but have no powers still. Art is still looking good here

10
Superman (2023) #14

Aug 24, 2025

So many epic things happening here in one issues. Superman and Lobo have a short fight but has some great action panels between the two of them. General Chacal captures Superman with chains forged from Apokolips and delivers him to Brainiac. Supergirl and Lex are rescued by Brainiac son and his mother forming a team to stop Brainiac. And finally we learn what Brainiac has been doing, he has amassed and created some abomination of cybernetics and organic material he called his queen. Needing the power of the Superfamily to come to life and needing to eat the Czarnians for fuel she is a hideous monster. Her purpose and reason for creation by Brainiac is still unclear hopefully next issue we will find out why he did this. I'm not sure what the Queen has to do with the fact that Brainiac has close to every piece of knowledge imaginable except for a few holes that is driving him mad.

10
Superman (2023) #15

Aug 24, 2025

This was one hell of a send off to end Brainiac! Luthor managed to hack the core and delete Brianiac's entire system. The art through this and the whole Brainiac event has been epic. The best part is at the end we find out Luthor lost his mind in the process when Superman tells Lex that he's proud of how Lex did all of this for his daughter. Lex responds with "Whose Lex Luthor?" And lastly the final page teases Doomsday punching the doors of hell referring back to the Doomsday Special.

I'm not feeling this at all so far, the writing style has lost any sense of seriousness or foreboding, the art style sucks compared to how this run started. Frankly all of the characters now are just annoying and add nothing good to the story except that they are there. What happened I was expecting better especially after the epic House of Brainiac event? This Doomsday and now the Aftermath people really bore the hell out of me.

Okay sorry not sorry but this ish is just silly. Feels like the writer ran out of ideas and is just coming up with the most ridiculous concepts to really wow you. I mean the Aftermath turns out to be Radiant Man seeking vengeance to kill Doomsday is all revealed in this ish. There's absolutely no room for any mystery to develop feels so rushed. And honestly Lois only being Superwoman for a few weeks and commanding her powers equally to Superman with the exception of using heat vision according to #19 is really dumb. Like it's enough that we have the Superfamily but Lois just feels off to me... This would have worked a little better if Superwoman was another character altogether but making her Superwoman makes this story hard to go with... And btw what happened to the Superfamily like we still see Kara but where are the Super twins and others? Not that I'm complaining but it feels like a lot of missing pieces here. Ending the comic off with Superman and Doomsday teaming up was the dumbest thing I've probably ever seen...

Otherwise I wasn't to interested in what was going on but the reason why I gave it a 3 instead of a 1 was because my interest peaked when it revealed General Zod returning. Okay so this ish was a huge improvement. Oh I wonder why?! Eddy Barrows is back and with a vengeance. The art in this ish is phenomenal. Yes this art saves the series for me and frankly glad the Doomsday stuff is over. Still not a fan of Superwoman but at least Barrows draws her well. There are some really good twist here and I feel like we are back to Joshua Williams best vision of where he wanted to go with his story. The best twist is how it turns out Mercy has been working a betrayal and in the process has created a new Super Lex Luthor. The real Lex was sent back to jail by Superman because Supes was worried the old Lex was coming back but he didn't see the real issue growing was Mercy. We learn this when Superwoman goes on a mission with the current Justice League and find the Kunds have weapons they bought from Super Corp. Some beautiful ❤️ artwork throughout and hope Barrows stays on.

Barrows strikes again, well until they give Mora the last few pages for the X-El fight but thats not a good reason to deduct any points because that's like 5% of the ish. This was great stuff and delivered another great twist accidental or planned is for you to decide. But after X-El gets lamely girl bossed by Superwoman for threatening her family the best part happens with the real Lex. When X-El was weak and on the ground he was yelling at the real Lex for being weak. And like a badass the real Lex blows X-els head off and ends it all right there. Superman freaks out about of course and so does every one else except Mercy. Mercy says to herself "Welcome back Lex" ❤️ Lex and Mercy really stole the show last ish and this ish bravo!! 👏

This was okay not the perfection everyone seems to be beefing it up to be. I'm probably the only one not impressed with Moras style either. The story is much improved and it did bring focus back to Superman at least. The Darkseid Legion seems good but Idk it's not really drawing me in, it just feels like a predictable DBZ episode in the making honestly.

Superman (2023) #29

So I guess Superboy Prime is Super Deadpool? And secondly these latest issues really feel like cheap DBZ episodes. I've seen better build up with Darkseid than this, I can go back to even John Byrne's Man of Steel and how he handled similar stories much more interesting than this. I get why people like it good for you but it feels kind of predictable. I liked most of this series except for the Absolute Power Tie ins and the early 20s. I get Williams is going for that Silver age feel which I respect especially when Superboy Prime jokingly says "c'mon get silver age with me." But even so it feels like there's still no stakes. Yeah we find out that the future IS Darkseid and everything the good guys did was meaningless. But with all the multi-versal, time changing, yadda yadda it's hard to take any of this seriously. Especially in these modern runs that seem to conclude things pretty fast. I like how they show the Legion mostly decimated but again it doesn't feel like it means anything. I think what would have saved this ish for me is if in the beginning when Cosmic Boy killed the JL in space by crushing them all to death and Clarks mother getting zapped it should have actually happened. Like this ish should have illustrated that this Legion is the final front, it's now or never. And they should have killed everything Clark loves. (Obviously he would fix that but I would come up with a reason to prevent that fix for a good 10 issues) Instead nothing real happens it's all in Supermans head and the worst we see is some iteration of the future Legion is dead. Hopefully I soften up next ish and it gets better for me otherwise I'm really more curious about Lex Luthor and what he's up to.

Superman (2023): Lex Luthor Special #1

Aug 28, 2025

Besides being a sucker for Barrow's artwork Lex Luthor is the stand out in this entire series for me. I went out of order on accident and should have read this after I finished the House of Brainiac but no big deal it just filled in a few tiny gaps about Luthor. Some great panels here and feels like solid classic 80s with more concise dialogue. I just don't understand why everyone is head over heels over Moras anime style for Superman, I dont see anyone make a peep for Barrow's strange. I don't hate anime/manga style but I think that would actually fit better with Captain Marvel over at Marvel. But Superman DC should retain a classic American style imo

The art looks like it was made by some souless corporation making very neutral advertisements that will appeal to a large general audience. The only interesting piece of information we get out of this special is how Lois through Waller's Amazo Suit or whatever only stole these new powers from General Zod. So that's why he's returning to get his powers. Please General Zod. Get your powers back...

Woah... Just excellent, from the writing to the character design and overall interior work this is truly a masterpiece. The cover of this ish does not do this story justice, the next ish needs better cover art. This is the second new series from DC that I've genuinely enjoyed Metamorpho being the other one. Otherwise most of what DC is pumping out is bad right now but this is one that is a must-read!

Trinity Special (2024) #1

Aug 28, 2025

I'm not going to lie I enjoyed the goofy escapades of Damian, Jon and Lizzie, this was a nice way to humanize them. The art was fantastic and the dialogue wasn't s**t like the WW run. What turned me off despite all of that was how at the end Lizzie punches Diana in the face for not wanting to shoot her during her Amazon trials. The ish also shows that Diana also did this during her trials punching her mother in the face. BULLSH**! Why do you have to make Lizzie an insufferable competitive pain in the butt like every second she has screen time? But anyway no way in hell would Diana ever disrespect her mother like that in front of all the Amazons or even privately. That is so beneath her and disgusting King really is pissing and sh**ting all over Diana why is this being allowed?! And of course excusing Lizzie's behavior of disrespecting her mother Diana just because of Diana did it too, F**k you. That's Diana's one and only daughter she has every right to feel the way she did, Lizzie didn't have to disrespect her mother who oh I forgot happens to be WONDER WOMAN! Tom King must be some kind of sadist or masochist who thinks the only way to raise someone up is to tear someone down. These behaviors are completely alien to the Amazon culture, Lizzie could have just made an endearing speech to Diana that she had to trust her to survive the gun. That would have been good enough but no we have to defecate on these characters, who gave this the okay they should have been fired?! If this was suppose to make me respect Lizzie it has the opposite effect. And this was one of the things I was looking forward to despite pretty much being disgusted with this WW run. I was excited to find out more about Diana's daughter but now I see King is up to his usual tricks. It's going to take a lot for me to unsee this disgrace and like Lizzie I really want to like her too because she has my mom's name which is really cool. But if you keep making her a mean, insufferable, competitive brat like that annoying kid in school it won't be such a great time...

Trinity: Daughter of Wonder Woman (2025) #1

Aug 28, 2025

Who wrote this piece of Gaga a 5 year old? This is Trinity's first solo intro and this is what you come up with? You have her multiverse traveling with 3 different versions of herself doing stupid sh*t and talking goo goo Gaga throughout most of it. The Wonder Robin character looks and acts like Mort from Madagascar and everytime she shows her face I hope the friggin Penguins show up to blow her up with a bazooka or have her shipped out in a box to Madagascar. You could have done something serious here and make me respect Trinity or relate to her. Maybe show her childhood without all the goofy bull. You got little things in it but it feels like it is presented in a Disney Pixar fashion gross... This is embarrassing, Tom King either goes from being a high pseudo-intellectual to a babbling goo goo Gaga baboon.

Are you guys jer*ing me off here? The dialogue is cringe, Trinity is annoying and has no personality just your baseline *OH SENPAI ME SO CUTE ME SO FUNNY* Anime personality... These critics are either not actually reading the issue and just saying some copy and pasted paragraph they default to Everytime or they really have no taste at all. How can anyone think this is a respectable good solo story for WONDER WOMANS DAUGHTER. This is beyond stupid. There hasn't been enough time to develop this character at all through the new run so to just throw her into this inebriated monkey brained Anime plot is just ridiculous. This doesn't make me like her at all, it's bad enough King wrote her as this insufferable brat but now we have to read three brats babbling about traveling in time a gazillion times (FOR COMEDY BRO). DC SHOULD BE ASHAMED. Wonder Woman and her daughter deserve to be taken seriously and not turned into some f**King Deadpool. You unimaginative bafoons did the same thing to my favorite character Harley Quinn and now your doing that to Wonder Woman and her daughter. What kind of drugs are the people in DC taking?!!!

TVA (2024) #1

Dec 25, 2024

I wanted to like this as a fan of Loki but the art is really bad. Feels kiddish, and the whole spider-gwen being a character is kind of lame. Would have been fine with just the cast from the show. Sylvi doesn't even show at all even though she is on the cover, and Captain Britain comes off so generic and lack of any personality. Mobius and B-15 are great in the show and the writing fits their characters in this comic but it doesn't feel right, something is off? This had a lot of great potential and really could have taken advantage of some of the Orwellian themes of the TVA and expand more Loki lore but no it felt like a cash grab. I will read the next issues and stick with it until #5 but not impressed...

TVA (2024) #2

Jan 22, 2025

SYLVIE! Alright so this was a big improvement from issue #1. Nothing huge happens in terms of action, comic is mostly dialogue but feels like it is getting back to its Loki roots. Was a faster read than the previous ish but that might be because it was more to the point. Highlight of the comic is Sylvie shows up so I'm happy about that and clearly a good build up to a Loki reveal hopefully but it will most likely happen by ish #5. Nonetheless my only criticism is that the characters going to hell or specifically Hellstroms city where people can right wrongs, was like no big deal. Then when Sylvie shows up she applauds spider-gwen and Gambit for their gusto walking into hell. Like what? Why do I have issue with this little comment? Well this is Sylvie, who lived her entire life hiding from the TVA by living in moments in time where apocalypse would begin to avoid detection. So she never lived in a stable world until Loki controlled the multiverse. Most importantly she was one of the main forces through sheer vengeance to find and kill Kang being the one responsible for the collapse of the almost invincible tyrannical TVA and also the multi verse going awry in the first place. So a couple of characters walking in the safest version of hell is peanuts when compared to what Sylvie went through. That's bad writing and I have to call that out. Please next ish do not diminish Sylvie to raise up the lesser characters, she needs to stand out more, including the original cast like Mobius, B-15 and OB. They are integral and honestly spider-gwen and Gambit should be side characters to the Loki' cast journey. Still this comic I would only recommend to fans of the Loki show, it is a hard sell to a broader general audience of readers.

The worst Ish by far! This has been a stellar run so far and I have been loving most of the issues which I have yet to review. With a couple issues lacking in good art, most have been fantastic with just the right amount of action and story. The character development has been golden with Ororo and T'Challa being my favorites. This issue feels like a filler and the only good part about it is T'Challa trying to go out of Wakanda to extend his reach and defeat Moonknight's ideological grasp on the people. Otherwise a big step downward for a great Ultimate series and hope it picks up again on issue #12.

Ultimate Black Panther (2024) #12

Jan 18, 2025

2 Minute Read... Okay so a solid 5/5 for the art I'm loving most of the panel work. But the writing continues to fall apart at least in terms of pacing. I finished this comic in at least 2 minutes or at most 3 minutes. Starting off with a great scene where Tchalla goes out of character to behead his defeated foe Moon knight it only turns out to be a dream. I get it, but honestly would have been cool to commit to this especially that this is an Ultimate universe created by the Maker that will eventually be fixed by The Ultimates eventually? From there he finally has his fight and easily defeats Moonknight with a swift upper kick to the face sending him flying. Seriously. That's it. Kind of anti-climactic after all that build up unless there will be a second phase of fighting in issue 13 but that would be silly. Then he sees these four giant dark figures trying to influence him to end Moon Knight only to be stopped by that chick I already forgot her name but she is Sorcerer Supreme in this ultimate universe or something. Sorry to make it sound so bare minimum but that's how it felt for me. After the many great issues of nice lengthy dialogue and world building it seems the writer is losing steam. Issue 11 was not terrible but not good either. Well this one was bad. I don't want to give a super low devastating score because I don't think it would be fair to totally give up. The artist is still doing a tops job and most of this run in this reviewer's opinion has been solid so it is okay to have a few bummers. But not giving a high score either because if the story continues to intellectually weaken like this it should not be rewarded.

I just started reading the new Ultimate stuff starting with Spidey and loved it so I wanted to try this. I must say this is excellent and has some really interesting concepts and characters. I actually find Iron Lad' anger toward his father to be a good hook and how they are trying to bring the 616 back. Marvel is not perfect but certainly between this and Ultimate Spider and Black Panther there is a lot more going on here than at DC unfortunately. Can't wait to read next issues when I have more time.

TOO MUCH INFORMATION (TMI BRO) I haven't reviewed previous issues but I would say I enjoyed issues #1-7 and didn't feel like I had anything to add to the conversation because most people liked them too. But this was just bad. Like I can tell the writer has a lot of big ideas and some of them sound really epic but so many crammed in one comic felt kind of lame and rushed and honestly incomprehensible. Like retaining it is not really possible because there is nothing to relate to in order to remember some of the large amounts of information thrown at you so fast. Captain Marvel is like that NPC that just has so much dialogue about lame quest you could care less about. Then when she demands an emotional response there is nothing there because it is so routine. This issue is information overload or simply TMI. Honestly America Chavez taking up this much space is stupid, you should have a separate comic or miniseries if you wanted to cover more of her and her unknown history with these new Guardians of the Galaxy. Because I am more attached to the Ultimates you started us off with. Like their back stories didn't feel this convoluted and as bloated as your dead fat Galactus is floating in space lol. I am still looking forward though to seeing how Iron Lad fairs, and of course I want to see more of this Doom even though I know people who say that its been done before. I hope attention is kept on the others as well and that balance returns, but if the format is going to be like this on the next issue that will be a bad sign.

I love the cover, also I really just enjoy the Rogue dialogue and seeing her in action. The art for me is great and really matches with Rogue. Not that crazy about the whole Sarah Gaunt villain, comes off way too cliche and shallow to me. So I really just like this Uncanny series for the dynamics between Gambit and Rogue though the comic has not made clear why she is able to be with a man without accidentally killing him? I'm sure this was on another run but for someone just jumping in familiar with Rogue this will break the moment without explanation.

Nice! Okay so thank God that whatever happened with issue #6 being such trash didn't happen on this issue. The art is not as good as the first 5 issues but thankfully the style is consistent with those issues unlike #6. I like this style alot but would like it to be a bit more detailed even with those far away shots of the characters. Nonetheless everyone looks great and Rogue is really shining here design wise and character development. I will forget about how bad issue #6 was because obviously something or someone else got in the way there from what I can tell but at least its back to the premise. Plus Gail Simone I know will continue to write a solid enough story here. I did like her Wonder Woman run from 2006 I think. Mostly good stuff from that and I'm getting the same vibes from this. I hope she continues to have Rogue as the lead and figures out more character building situations for Rogue she deserves a good lead role! I am giving this a solid 10 just out of relief that it got back on track with the style I was really liking, please avoid mistakes like #6. Otherwise art is great just needs more detail but it fits!

Uncanny X-Men (2024) #8

Jan 18, 2025

Forget anything Uncanny or X-Men at least for me... I really was hoping this would be a long series that would last for me but no I think this issue turned me off for good. My biggest beef is the art changing so much, the artist in the beginning was superb I thought but now they keep changing too where it has no consistency at all. Modern comics really are garbage and to the ones that aren't as bad they are still a chore to read when you want to stick with them. For example, I started reading the 1998 Iron Man run written by Kurt Busiek and drawn by Chen. Now I won't claim it too be the best comic EVAH! However it is in a masterclass in itself. In two days I read 25 issues and an annual without getting tired of it. Getting ready eventually to read 64 more issues of it. Iron Man 1998 unlike this crap called Uncanny X-Men is consistent throughout those 25 issues I've read, even the worst issues were still entertaining. The romance and flings Tony has feel real and gives you a glimpse into him as a man. Whereas in Gail Simone's romance between Rogue and Gambit it feels like a cheap attempt at fanfiction or at best cliche fans service (is there a difference Idk?).I am not learning anything new about Rogue or Gambit through there love in this series, nothing significant that effects the story dramatically at all. This whole issue especially was so drab and stupid and you know what I'm sick of every woman character having a beef with some male lead for reasons that is not explained. I get it everyone hates Scott now but honestly I think its stupid. I like Scott Summers, I think he's a good character that deserves respect but no he is getting the Captain America treatment in current comics. Cap is also being treated like used toilet paper in comics that should "know his place" when "DA STRONG WAHMEN COMEZ IN DA PANEL DUH!!" I gave this garbage another chance even after that horrendous abomination called issue #6 but that's it!

Solid issue, I did like the whole hunt with Cyber in issue #1 and think he is a really badass character. Just wish we would have more of Cyber instead of him being possessed by this gold adamantium. And as one reviewer pointed out, how fast Cyber ended up in Japan (5000 miles away) to infect Lady Death strike with the golden adamntium was goofy. My personal complaint would be I think the whole Wendigo thing could have been solved on issue #2 and this issue could have had a new plot or get right into Cyber and Lady D. Nothing would beat the brilliant back and forth between Cyber and Wolverine from issue #1 that was great.

We are Venom... I mean we are Adamantum... The writing is lacking in this issue and it just feels like one Macguffin after the next just to forward the story. The artist is still doing good but must be getting tired of the story as well because some panels are just not doing it here, not like the details and beautiful work of issue #1 and #2. This whole Adamantum thing or whatever is a common theme in Venom and now even Ultimate Black Panther with it's "anti-vibranium" concept. And you can see advertised on issue #5 Wolverine and the others possessed by the Adamantum. It should have said on the advertisement. We are Adamamntum... Oh shit here we go again...

Im only going to keep going because I like the art and I want to read more about Trinity because I was impressed with Wonder Woman #800 when they showed her and Batman/Supermans sons together. But I'm sorry this is horrible, Tom King is a try hard power who thinks his writing is some kind of epic never before told story. His tropes are predictable, his villains are two dimensional and even the other background characters are really full. And this is all because of a bar room fight from ish #1?! BS. I've never read any Tom King stuff and heard some bad things about it but wanting to see for myself going in with an open mind I can say so far I am not impressed with this at all... I've read Gail Simone run last year from 2006 and loved it. This does not even compare to that almost 20 year old run, the first issues of that I was immediately hooked and finished it so fast. Why didn't you guys hire Gail or a writer like that? Why Tom King? He is clearly a pseudo-intellectual... An improvement from #2 but still garbage writing with a little febreeze sprayed over it. I can't stand this Sovereign dialogue. It is so wordy and overdone the meaning of the sovereign is going over my head throughout. I can tell you the villain already is failing in my eyes because his argument for being evil is extremely stupid. Obviously KING is making modern day political connections in his writing that just doesn't make sense in Wonder Woman's world imo. Blaming the Amazons for the destruction of American culture, how the Amazons want to kill all men, and how the Sovereign uses the lasoo of lies to make a soldier commit suicide leaving a note that he blames Wonder Woman. This is retarded because this is the same world where Superman, Batman and many other male heroes dwell. There is no way the Sovereign even has a "well you know maybe the guy has a point but he's still wrong..." kind of vibe. Like some well written villains have an understandable goal and reason to hate their heroes. But so far I have no idea why this old dude who cosplays as a king has a bug up his a** for the venerable Amazons? Is he immortal, is that why he refers to the American history bits and refers to himself as "we"? The only saving grace that kept me interested was when we found out the Amazon who killed the men in the bar is pregnant and then the panel shows Trinity behind bars being asked if she wants to hear more about the story. My God never before would I have thought Wonder Woman in her own story would feel like a fill in like this. This should really be called "Tom Kings Delusions: We are annoyingly Sovereign and stuff..."

Wonder Woman (2023) #4

Aug 24, 2025

Wow this was one hell of a comeback for me. Going in with low expectations because frankly so far this run has been horrible issues #4 really turned it around, and I hope this stays as the definitive turning point. Please keep up these vibes. The dialogue wasn't as bloated and there was more intimate character moments that helped this setting grow more familiar to me. I was really happy to see Amanda Waller show up talking to Sgt. Steel, should be great to see how she f**KS with Diana. Steve getting into a brawl with his fellow soldiers calling him a cuc* and put**y whipped for not talking bad about WW. The Sovereign is still kind of dumb for me at the moment but what is good is he was presented better in here making it easier to understand what he might be. When he made the POtUs kiss his ring and talk about the mother and the king, and how they breed him and his family, shows that he's not immortal probably this is some secret society like the masons or illuminati I mean just short hand something like that. This book gave more time to Diana too with her visiting a boy dying of cancer and she brings him to Themyscira for a day. Rendering some beautiful sad moments between her and him. I hope this continues in this direction and not the over bloated writing of previous issues, oh and of course the art in this was perfect!

Wonder Woman (2023) #5

Aug 24, 2025

While not as perfect as #4 this was still a page turner and had some great dialogue between Diana and Cassie and Yara. As the Sovereign was building up a small army of Diana's Rogues gallery, Diana was one by one challenging her Wonder Girls and forcing them through oaths not to assist her in the upcoming battles she will face. Each challenge was unique and I enjoyed watching Diana stick an arrow in Yaras belly, have an emotional conversation with Cassie while they were arm wrestling to the death and my favorite was Diana beating Donna at Injustice 2, this was a lot of fun this issue and King slightly fell back into over bloated writing in some panels but he seems to be getting more focused here. Obviously by the end all three showed up at Diana's apartment to say they weren't following the paths. This was a great ish to get the reader to form a subtle bond with these characters and what they are about to do.

10
Wonder Woman (2023) #6

Aug 24, 2025

Damn this was as epic as watching a movie. Some of the most intense battle panels I've seen, Wonder Woman facing off Giganta, Circe, Silver Swan, Psycho and Angle all together beating the hell out of her. Giganta throwing the Washington monument full force into Wonder Woman. And with all of that Wonder Woman still stood weakened, and the last piece of the chess board was Darkseid's daughter Grail fresh and ready to kill. Grail and WW fight each other like a DBZ episode to the death with both of them falling unconscious. Clearly the sovereign plans to do some kind games with the now vulnerable WW. This was really good stuff, the action and art alone makes this issue truly a masterpiece worth trudging through some of the wordy over bloated writing of King.

I'm still unsure what this Sovereign douch* is trying to do to Diana. Is he trying to turn her into an obedient 1950s housewife? I don't get it? Why? And he says to her that she can't be a savior because she is a women but Diana has never claimed to be a savior or Messiah? She's a hero... I'm saying I don't understand the Sovereigns motive at all and it just seems like Tom King has this obsession with always drawing up the same 1950s cliche tropes that bore the hell out of me. Like okay it worked pretty good with Wandavision which was loosely based off of Kings Vision run but that has more depth to it than this. I still can't see the goal of the Sovereign, why does he hate Diana so much? Is it really the boring answer of "Well he's a bigot and a sexist and a phobe." I mean c'mon this is a comic this has to be something bigger than that, Diana has fought gods and monsters, this has to be more than just a few sexist perverts in Washington taking down our girl WW. A little more imagination please? Not a terrible issue however the art still holds up and oddly I am interested because I want more answers to what the hell this is all about?!!

Okay now this is more like it, firstly the art is majestic and really sucked me into Diana's world and mind. How she is talking to Steve while trying to retain her sanity against the Sovereign's solitary confinement torture of her. Which one thing I don't understand how is the Sovereign able to keep Diana in a dark cell for so long? There hasn't been a physical explanation for this because can't she just bust her way out with her super strength? And secondly Sovereign isn't controlling her mind so she is just being mentally deprived of her loved ones. Her moments with Steve are really good here and again the art does such a good job keeping me in the moments with them both. I don't know how I feel about her having to eat a rat and then befriending the rats female counterpart out of guilt, that's nasty but I guess King has to really show the inhuman depravity of the whole situation which again why cant wonder woman just punch her way out if this one? Are the walls Amazon proof? Need some more explaining but otherwise this ish was SOLID

Best part about this ish hands down is Cheetah and WW fighting out and eventually befriending at the end. This series when it does the action scenes really stands out for me. The only reason why I took off .5 points was I disagree with what King says about Batman and Superman being reduced to one thing and the simplicity of their goals and that Wonder Woman and all of the girls are more complex and can't be so easily defined. I mean this was nice and cool but I don't see why you have to tear down Supes and Bats to put up WW. Might just be me but I love WW and never had the feeling to tear other characters down to put her up, she's great in her own way. But why I rated this high and let that one peeve barely effect the score was I have to give King credit in how he wrote Cheetah and Diana's dynamics, it was excellent and epic. I'm one of those guys that loved Cheetah in 1984 so I love when they do opa good job with her in the comics like this 👏 👍

I hate to give this such a low score because Sampere's art is truly beautiful but I have to do it because this story in this ish was all over the place. I was left totally confused and frustrated and again telling the narrator blue box (the sovereign) to shut the f**k up constantly. Blah blah blah blah blah, meaningless exposition. Steve is killed just because, and again none of this consistently flows from one ish to the other. The storyline and pacing feels ADD and unorganized. The only satisfaction is you see she makes Elizabeth out of clay with her hair and a piece of Steven. That was nice, but frankly I think this ish would have been better if it had a good writer and less dialogue boxes taking up so much space and unnecessary attention. I thought King was improving but this ish proves otherwise. And don't get me started on the disjointed Day 5, then Day 50, then Day 42, then Day 1 drove me f***ing crazy...

This is just headache inducing, garbage. The SOVEREIGN IS THE WORST THING EVER , HE NEVER SHUTS UP. Tom King is a** people weren't joking when they told me this but seeing it for myself he is worse than I thought. Absolutely unbearable writing... And the art is too good for such crap writing... I would give this a higher score just for the art but that would be lying to myself. The writing alone ruins any good aspect of this series so far...

Not horrible like before, writing was at least bearable and digestible this time around. King is not consistent at all with his themes. Going from WW being tortured in solitary confinement, to being in a jungle to find Cheetah, to creating a baby, to now having a chimp investigating Sovereign and helping Clark expose to the world who Sovereign is. Talk about all over the place thematically speaking. The only cool part is how the chimp is really The Spectre but we only see the Spectre pop his face out in one panel, that's it... I was unfortunately correct in my prediction early on that the Sovereign's motivation is lame and as simple as "he's a sexist mean white guy" because his father who was king before wanted Sovereign's sister to become next heir, and Sovereign murdered his father to prevent "a woman from taking his rightful place." That's the big deal. Not the fact that America has been under the secret control of some secret society using a black lasso of lies going all the way back to our founding fathers which in itself is stupid. Like wouldn't you need to have someone tied to the lasso the whole time to be under control like how the lasso of truth works? Anyone who has some knowledge of American history will laugh at this premise because Tom King at one point puts it as "The Sovereign had the Founding Fathers believe they were running a democracy." This is retarded because the Founding Fathers ended up pretty fractured on what their vision for America was. Hello, Federalist and Anti Federalist? Jefferson vision against Hamilton vision. Jefferson and Adams going head to head over the Alien and Sedition act. John Adams being fervently against any idea of democracy because of what was unfolding in France (the revolution) viewing democracy as "mob rule". You can find this in his letters or also in his biography by David McCullough. There are so many examples of this from James Madison too and many other founding fathers. To just generally paint all of the founders as if they believed in a democracy is treating your viewers like historical illiterates or maybe Tom King is historically illiterate? Democratic Republic, Representative Republic, etc. Democracy was not the accepted word barely used. The art is still great, King just sucks...

I can't believe how soft everyone is in rating these issues. This should be considered false advertising because not counting the horrid Absolute Power Tie in issues, most of this series has been narrated through the perspective of the worst villain ever conjured The Sovereign. Wonder Woman is just an after thought in her own solo series it's really disgraceful. I tried being patient through issues 1-11 but since 14 it just keeps dragging on and on, I hope they finally end it or something with Sovereign next ish. Rarely do we get anything from Diana except some blurbs and obvious things nothing to really make you feel like your a long side WW. I hate that I have to experience this through the Sovereign. I was happy to see Diana talk a little bit in this to her baby and make a sculpt of Steve but jeez that's all we get! Pathetic!!

Diana has been reduced to a female Arnold Swartzenegger action hero who just blurbs meaningless phrases that might sound okay. All this work and dialogue for the Sovereign and no detail given to the main attraction WW. Total yawnfest this ish, and frankly it just dawned on me. Why the hell would Darkseid's daughter be helping the Sovereign? Let alone take orders from him? There has been no good explanation that I'm aware of on why the daughter of Darkseid would be a bodyguard to any mortal? This low rating I have to keep saying for the record is not about the art the art is phenomenal but I just can't let go how King has dropped the ball so hard on Diana...

Much better than what was going on previously but this is probably a break and thats it. It was a nice moment between Diana and Bruce I thought when he was injured from Zeus' bolt. King is still horrible overbloated writer but the change of story, setting and art made it a bit more bearable for me to get through. Finally too Diana speaks plenty in this even if it feels like she's got a chip on her shoulder through a good amount. Better than the blurbs and grunts of previous arc...

Oh my is King having a mental breakdown or something here? Thankfully most of this comic the dialogue consist of MOUS MAN KNOWS MOUSE MAN KNOWS. So I was able to finish this comic in less than a fraggin minute... Retarded. Garbage.

TOM KING DOESNT KNOW, TOM KING DOESNT KNOW... HOW TO WRITE A GOOD STORY... Yet another piece of trash to add to this series run. And you know what, I know Diana is Wonder Woman but there's something ridiculous about her carrying a baby while fighting and getting shot at. I don't even picture her mother doing this kind of nonsense. I'm done giving thoughtful explanations for this series clearly DC does not take WW seriously. My God why is Tom King on this for so long...

X-Men (2024) #9

I liked it, its okay. For me the beginning was bad, the art looked incomplete and totally rushed just to get the action out of the way. The action looked better on the Uncanny X-Men than on this one. It was so bad the beginning I almost lost interest but than halfway through the art changed for the better and so did the dialogue. Nothing huge in the plot but I am digging the friction between Rogue and Scott about Charles being free or not. The whole comic took me 5 minutes to read though probably less. Like it just went too fast and it felt like nothing really happened. Out of this run and the Uncanny run I prefer the Uncanny art style and writing. Gail Simone is doing a good job capturing some of the characters diatribe (with the night crawler furry comment being the horrid exception and screw #6). Jed McKay did good through most of the X-Men issues but on this one it felt like the attention to detail and build up was thrown aside I guess for the crossover? Still looking forward to #11 just hope it feels a bit more in-depth than this.
