What seemed to be starting in issue one as a basic "Shadows = Grief" metaphor is shaping into a rather interesting mystery with charming and engaging, if somewhat generic, characters. Can't wait to see what happens next! |

We Only Find Them When They're Dead #1

I was pretty sure I was going to like this based on its premise alone, but in execution I'm surprised by how enthused I am to read the rest. The art is vibrant and gorgeous with very fine outlines that make it feel like the ships and characters could get swallowed by the immensity of space at any moment and despite having an admittedly dark premise, doesn't sacrifice anything in its art style; the characters are all visually distinct from each other and their dialogue hints at their personalities and relationships without distracting from the overall story. |

We Only Find Them When They're Dead #2

Since a fair bit of this was devoted to backstory and flashbacks, we didn't get to move forward on the main plot much, but I don't begrudge the book for it because the characters are engaging enough to make the flashbacks compelling on their own. Retro sci-fi visual elements are as welcome as ever, as well, with the warp tunnel reminding me of the slit scan VFX from the movie "2001: A Space Odyssey." This series continues to be worth every minute I've spent on it and is a trip I eagerly look forward to. |

This book promises adventure, friendship, and nostalgia that make it worth your time, if some deliberately messy art can be forgiven. |
