Beyond Belief #1

Apr 22, 2015

Beyond Belief #1 is a jolly good supernatural romp but loses a little something in translation to the page. Just one more thing before I go"does anyone have any tonic?

Black Panther (2016) #1

Apr 7, 2016

This is a strong first issue for Coates. It sets up the background of Black Panther and the history of Wakanda well so that those who have no knowledge of the character (like me) can easily pick this up and launch straight into it. Like I said previously, this is not a comic to read if you want cheering up, but it is written and drawn so well that you feel like you have really experienced something by the end of it and want to read on. Im really looking forward to seeing how this story goes forward. As a side note, Im also very curious as to how the character will be handled on the big screen.

Chew #47

Mar 24, 2015

If you're not familiar with Chew I would definitely recommend it. It's completely bonkers and brilliant. In my opinion, Layman and Guillory have created a little bit of comic book genius.

Chew #54

Jan 27, 2016

I still enjoy Layman's writing but I really feel that this fantastic series has lost some of its sparkle along the way. This makes me feel a bit sad as I have really enjoyed Tony et al through all 10 volumes and I really don't want the final few issues to be so dark. I would love a return to form from Layman.

Empress #1

Mar 8, 2016

Simply put, Empress is a really good read. Its a fast-paced, utterly enjoyable space romp (yep. I said romp) with all the impressive characteristics that make up a truly great comic. Im looking forward to seeing where Millar and Immonen intend to take these characters over the rest of the series. This is most definitely one to pick up in April.

Garfield #35

Mar 3, 2015

This issue of Garfields 9 Lives is bitter sweet for me. It was difficult to try and get used to the thought of Garfield not being the Garfield from my formative years. The first story arc just didnt impress but the issue is saved (thankfully) by everyones favourite feline detective.

Hit-Girl (2018) #1

Feb 21, 2018

All in, this is a great comic. It's a bold move by Millar to use a different artist to reintroduce such a popular character to the masses, but it somehow works.

Huck #2

Dec 20, 2015

I love Huck. I do. I am really looking forward to getting to know this gentle hero and where exactly he came from. Who are the mysterious red headed woman and strange Russian doctor? What is their part in all this? What about the twist in the last panel? We will no doubt find out. I cant recommend Huck highly enough. Its a real triumph for Millar and Albequerque. If you read nothing else before the end of the year then read this. You will thank me.

Huck #3

Jan 12, 2016

I'm really enjoying this comic more than anything I have read for a while and I think it really benefits from the lack of violence and strong language. An interesting direction for Millar and welcome one I would say. The art continues to be outstanding and just reaffirms my opinion that Albuquerque as one of the best comic artists around.

Huck #6

Apr 20, 2016

Im glad I got to know Huck and look forward to welcoming the big guy back. I just wish he had gone out with more of a bang than a whimper. But hey, maybe thats just his style.

I Hate Fairyland #5

Feb 17, 2016

Simply put, I HATE FAIRYLAND is a hugely enjoyable romp through an acid coloured, bat shit crazy land of cute animals, rainbows, unicorns and a homicidal 30 year old trapped in a little girls body. What's not to like? Buy it. BUY IT NOW.

Jupiter's Legacy: Vol. 2 #1

May 31, 2016

Millar and Quitely are obviously an excellent team and the synergy between them shines through in this comic. Sometimes when a series starts a new arc there can be a worry that it might have lost some of the magic that kept you interested in the first place. Not so with Legacy 2. Its simply a great story, well told.

Mythic #1

May 13, 2015

I think Mythic #1 is the start of another great series for Image. It has everything you want in a comic; magic, mystery, humour and a cell phone repairman. If anything, Im going to read issue #2 purely to find out how one does have sex with a mountain.

The Covenant #1

Jun 3, 2015

The Covenant, for me, is a bit Marmite: you will either love it or you will hate it. If you are a fan of biblical tales and a bit of sword and sandals action then this is definitely the comic for you. If not then you should still give it a go. You never know. God does work in mysterious ways..

The Legacy Of Luther Strode #1

Apr 8, 2015

The Legacy of Luther Strode #1 is a definite return to form for Jordan and his team. Its a blood soaked love story that will leave you feeling all fuzzy inside while also aware that Luther could punch a hole in your face.

This Damned Band #1

Aug 6, 2015

After a couple of false starts I really enjoyed this comic. The comic timing, the narrative style and the art really work well to bring a comic that, given time, could just turn it up to 11.
