Big Con-Job #1

Mar 17, 2015

Stantons art also conveys so many great examples of emotion and heart to wonderfully accommodate this story. Just one panel alone of a man in the rain with his cat left me with an unforgettable impression. But without giving too much away, the series has to be able to go somewhere; thankfully, the last page reveals some great story potential.

Dawn of the Planet of the Apes #1

Dec 8, 2014

Interesting to see some of the apes, including Maurice and Koba (and Rocket has already been mentioned), together, since we know which ones will betray Caesar down the line. But even with all of thetalk of peace in the movie, Caesar is shown to be a leader that knows he must make his group stronger in order to continue on and have a lasting future. Malcolms storyline shows him as brave and intelligent, just trying to make things better for his family.

Sleepy Hollow #1

Oct 21, 2014

What grabbed me right away was the very spot-on " but still cartoonish " illustrations of Ichabod Crane and Det. Abbie Mills. Coelho nails Crane's stringbean frame, and Abbie's petite size which is arguably even more enjoyable in comic form; the art is pleasantly minimalistic and clean, while Bennett's banter between the leads is enjoyable, including Crane's continued questions about the ways of the new time period he now lives in.

The Strain: The Night Eternal #1

Aug 26, 2014

Many of the characters are still here from the TV show (Vasiliy, Nora, Eph) which gave me an instant familiarity and sucked me right in to the story. Guillermo del Toro and Chuck Hogan still have story credit, while comic adaptor David Lapham (Stray Bullets) delves further into the history and a touch of origin of The Master. My only personal gripe? I'm just not into the art of Mike Huddleston (Harley Quinn). Sure his style fits with the dark and grit of the show, but it's a little messy " perhaps even flat " for my taste.
