Secret Weapons #0

Jan 9, 2018

For being a backstory issue focused on the characters of an already fantastic book, Secret Weapons #0 holds its own. It's worth picking up, both for fans of Secret Weapons and those interested in the series in general. If you aren't reading it, you'll certainly want to by the end of this issue.

The Shadow/Batman #2

Nov 10, 2017

The reveal of who is behind this iteration of the Silent Seven also makes a great deal of sense while elevating the need for Damian to be involved. Given the firm shift from a fighting-centered comic to one of strategy and much-needed intrigue,The Shadow/Batman #2 is headed down the path of a fantastic, True Detective-style book. I only hope that it keeps it that way.

The Shadow/Batman #4

Jan 9, 2018

It's not often that a comic book offers up what seems like true, impossible hopelessness " at least, not at the scale that The Shadow/Batman #4 brings to the table.

Long Lost #3

Jan 30, 2018

In the end, I find that issue #3 isn't so much weaker as it is different " and that's something that I think might actually draw more readers in. It's certainly showing its scarier side, morphing from sinister, creepy family bonding to snowballing fear. If this is a hint of how Long Lost is beginning to grow into itself, then I cannot wait to see how far Erman and Sterle take it.

Long Lost #5

Apr 11, 2018

Long Lost #5 is a must-have in the series, offering one reveal after the other. Ultimately it does, however, feel like a bridge between issues. Something big is coming, and #5 feels like a stepping stone towards it despite all its intrigue. Matthew Erman and Lisa Sterle have plenty more to reveal; issue #5 is just a taste.

Jem and the Holograms: Dimensions #2

Jan 5, 2018

Issue 2 of Jem and The Holograms: Dimensions has its ups and downs, but it's still a solid issue that satisfies the craving for more Jem comics. While I don't recommend it as heavily as issue 1 to new fans, anyone who loves the Holograms should certainly grab this book. The enjoyment that reading "Stargirl" brings is more than worth the price point, and "Face Off" still has an energetic vibe that's fun to read.

Minky Woodcock: The Girl Who Handcuffed Houdini #1

Nov 17, 2017

Overall, Minky feels like it's going to be something special: a standout in the large amount of Houdini material. With its pulp novel feel and its use of subdued, yet powerful twists, it's definitely something to keep an eye on.

Bonehead #1

Jan 5, 2018

In the end, the best parts of Bonehead are when the mostly silent 56 is given time to hop around the city, bouncing off of drones, and taking down bad guys. Hopefully by the time the second issue drops on January 31st we'll have more of that and less of the choppiness this issue brings.

Sideways #1

Feb 7, 2018

Overall, Sideways #1 isn't exactly groundbreaking, but it obviously has a solid direction in mind. Where the story goes will hopefully be a little more entertaining.

The Shadow (2017) #4

Nov 29, 2017

Despite the dual impostors, our mysterious man back in costume, and Worthy's continued storyline, it doesn't feel like a particularly exciting issue. The ending leaves much to be desired as it falls back once again on Cranston losing his mind and shouting what seems to be plot-relevant nonsense. Hopefully this return to madness will be properly explained in issue #5.
