Animal Man (2011) #20

May 2, 2013

This issue is slower and light on the costumed punch fighting, and if not for a surprise development at the end, doesn't effect the overarching plot too much. However, it's a solid issue with some good dramatic moments that manages to tell a good looking stand alone story.

Avengers (2012) #12

May 23, 2013

Along with New Avengers, Avengers is one the best books Marvel is putting out right now. Hickman's run starts at the beginning of Volume 5, so go pick it up. There's nothing really more that can be said about it's quality. It comes out twice a month! That's good!

Avengers (2012) #18

Aug 24, 2013

Is it a recommend? Hmm. If you're reading Infinity and/or Avengers anyway, yes, pick it up. It's a solid read. I don't know if it's a good place to jump in at. It's very lore heavy in this one and the issue acts as a link in the Infinity event chain. But that's not really a knock against it. Everyone's working at full here.

Avengers A.I. #1

Jul 7, 2013

I'm not recommending this. It's not that I'm telling you to decry this in the streets or hunt down the creators and force them into some type of Bloodsport situation. If you're interested in it, then by all means. However, this is skippable, or at least from what I've seen in issue one. There's not a lot going on and nothing mind blowing that you have to see.

Batman (2011) #23.2

Sep 14, 2013

Normally, I suggest staying away from sub-issues like this as they tend to be nothing more than cheap money grabs. However, this is a solid issue. You don't even really need to be caught up with the events of the Trinity War to get this, it's pretty self contained. It's a solid reccomend. It's a good Riddler story that, in true Riddler fashion, tells you how it's going to go from the very beginning in the form of riddles.

Batman and Robin (2011) #22

Jul 21, 2013

Batman and Robin #22 is an issue worth checking out. It meets the bar set by the New 52 Batman titles and is a fitting appetite sate-r while Batman works through "Year Zero."

Bedlam #7

Jun 8, 2013

Technically, this comes with a recommend. If you haven't read Bedlam and something above has interested you, do yourself a favor and go back to the beginning and catch up. There's only seven issues so far and it's all worth the read. It's a really strong series that has a ton of potential (or "legs" as we say in the business).

It's different, yes, but that doesn't make it bad.

Deadpool (2012) #15

Aug 31, 2013

Do I reccomend this issue? Yes! It's the beginning of a new arc with little ties to the last couple, so newbies can jump in without confusion. It's an arc that's shaping up to be Deadpool on a deeper level than what we've seen before. A shame for you to miss it.

Revival #9

Apr 19, 2013

What we're experiencing is a natural lull in the story. With the first major arc finished, the characters must piddle around as the pieces come together for the next one. Outside of a few writers, it's a very hard thing to avoid. Fortunately, Revival is on an upswing. Things are being set in motion that'll finally be played out later, and I can't wait.

Sex Criminals #1

Oct 2, 2013

This is a recommend, but only for mature audiences only. Obviously. There are some pretty funny parts, some good emotional beats, and some shway art to behold. It's deeper than you'd first suspect, so you can tell people you're reading it for the plot and actually mean it! This time.

Teen Titans (2011) #19

Apr 27, 2013

Teen Titans #19 does not come with a recommend. It's saved mostly by its art and the simple pleasure of seeing how goofy it can be. In fairness to Mr. Lobdell, it's not All Star Batman levels of bad, but for my money it's worse than Red Hood and the Outlaws. And look how well that's been recieved.

The Dream Merchant #1

May 16, 2013

Go read The Dream Merchant. That's the recommend. It's a solid read and a six issue limited run so it's well worth your time. If anything else, read it just for the... hey... hey, are you asleep? Wow that warm milk stuff must really work... are you-- I'm just going to go. Okay... well... goodnight.

The Dream Merchant #3

Jul 29, 2013

The Dream Merchant, this issue included, is still a solid read, but this isn't a universal reccomend. IIt straddles an odd line. It's a character study that doesn't hit Sandman levels, and it isn't fantastical action like something you'd see in The Matrix. But who knows, there are still three issues to go, maybe they're set to wow us.

Uncanny X-Men (2013) #8

Jul 14, 2013

It's a solid book. If you haven't started reading this series, start. This is issue's a little slow, but it's not bad. It's a bridge book, a link between two arcs. They're mostly boring, but it's an inevitable consequence of the comics medium.

Is it a recommend? Yes, completely. The art is worth your time and the story is strong enough to keep you more than entertained throughout.

X-Men (2010) #3

Aug 2, 2013

Guys. Guys. Girls. Boys. Boys to Men. Get X-Men #3. Get the other two books. It's worth it. The story is entertaining and the art is stellar. There's only three so far, so now is the time to jump in. It's a Marvel NOW book, so it's an official jumping on point, no extensive knowledge of X-Men required. You now have negative reasons not to read it. You owe me reasons.
