Conan: Road of Kings #1

Dec 16, 2010

This issue gets a solid three out of five, right in the middle. It's just that new Conan tales have to be pretty strong to stand up to the classics, and this one isn't too out of the ordinary just yet. The ending is set up to go any which way, and I'll be looking forward to seeing how it unravels.

Dracula: The Company of Monsters Volume 2 #1

May 11, 2011

Are you really going to turn down Dracula climbing the corporate ladder?

G. I. Joe #25

Jan 8, 2011

This issue is pretty good. It works well, but not exactly mind blowing. If you need a great GI JOE book right now, check out GI JOE: Cobra, post-haste, soldier!

G.I. Joe: Cobra II #11

Dec 14, 2010

Good stuff. This is the sort of JOE espionage tale worth your time, especially if you're a little bored with the cliche good guy/bad guy dynamic. Recommended.

Irredeemable #22

Feb 1, 2011

Irredeemable, i can't quit you! And there's no good reason to even consider it. This may not be the best issue to jump on board, but who cares? You'll still love it even if you don't know everything that's going on just yet.

Irredeemable #23

Mar 8, 2011

I experience total glee every month I get to read Irredeemable. I've been giving every issue a 4 out of 5, but if this continuing excellence keeps up, I will probably drop this guy a 5-spot until for some godforsaken reason it falls off the map. Knock on wood.

Irredeemable #26

May 31, 2011

If you were like me and first thought this book was all about capes, damsels in distress, and the usual bit, you're dead wrong. The most un-superhero superhero comic since Watchmen.

Irredeemable/Incorruptible BOOM Blast #1

May 3, 2011

This is a great book for new readers to jump on either of these titles. Both are written by Mark Waid, but i do prefer Irredeemable over Incorruptible, as it has much more meat on its bones as a continuing saga. Later issues of both titles get much better, but this is getting the highest rating based on the fact that these books are very much worth getting into, reissuing them for newer readers is a great move, and they're totally worth the dollar. Don't miss out.

Quantum and Woody #2

Aug 8, 2013

While necessary, some of the aspects of the origin story and powers just sort of come off like background noise to me, probably because we're all used to the typical super hero set up.That said, the big saving grace here is the wonderful interaction between Quantum and Woody, how their disparate personalities clash, especially in the midst of a fight.Great start to a new serious from the highly respected new line of Valiant books. Oh, and the end gets pretty weird, so I expect a killer third issue!

Starborn #2

Jan 15, 2011

Sure, it's simple and you've seen all these themes before, but if your inner kid can appreciate it for what it is. He'll thank you for picking it up.

The Transformers #15

Jan 6, 2011

I'm not too picky about my Transformers, but when they're written and drawn exceptionally well, that sure helps. If you're a stickler for only the classic designs and refuse to try an updated version, that's your loss, pal.

Witchblade (1995) #140

Dec 7, 2010

This is a great issue to start reading a book that has been running a pretty long time, to maybe not enough acclaim as its deserved. I cant speak for previous incarnations, but this current creative group sure seems to know whats its doing. If you've never tried this title, like myself, you may be surprised.

Very cool two-part story arc. Can't wait to see what this creative team brings next issue.
