There are many more revelations regarding Calvin's past, but the same ground has been covered with the character of Dick Grayson over in Snyder's Batman. While this is expected because both Calvin and Dick share a history with the Court of Owls, it was handled better here. Revealing that his entire life had been manipulated by the man who became his mentor was a moment that makes your hands eager to turn the page. |

While the story is in typical Adventure Time fashion, it would be nice to see a better characterization to these gender swapped characters. |

Chew #32
Mar 25, 2013 |
But through all of that, the biggest thing John Layman brings to the table with this issue is a big change in the character of Tony Chu. Since the beginning, he has been a man doing his job. He eats evidence, goes to the bad guy, has a shoot out, and arrests the perp. But now, he has a purpose to find the person who has hurt him close to home. In the middle of a confrontation with the Immaculate Ova Cult, he steps up and takes control of the situation using his newfound ability, and handles it in a way you would expect from Jason Statham in any summer blockbuster in which he stars. And not only that, but Tony then proceeds to stand up to his boss, who for the entire series has loathed him. With everything going on, that is what elevates this from your standard explosive issue of Chew. |

Chew #33

If Chew #32 was the lightning, then Chew #33 is the thunder and only the beginning of the food fight that is to come in subsequent issue. With all the serious events transpiring in this issue, the absurdity you expect shines bright. |
