Clive Barker's Nightbreed #1 |
May 28, 2014 |
Writers: Clive Barker, Marc AndreykoArtists: Piotr KowalskiDidn't have to get to page five to really get that "I'm reading a Clive Barker book" feeling. His style was prominent from the absolute beginning. It was a treat to see all the creatures from the 90's flick make it on to the comic, especially in the beginning pages when you get to scope out the art on the wall. Very nice touch. Pay special attention to the beginning when the old man with gills on his face tells you about Midian, if you're not a Cabal or Nightbreed fan. Otherwise, the well informed will know. Midian's the Nightbreeds home, secluded from humans and hidden in the mists. If I recall, it is in Canada somewhere. For those of you that don't know, the Nightbreed are a society of creatures that have existed since way before anything else. In the book we see two timelines, the past and the present. In the past we see two runaway slaves. Unfortunately one gets turned after enc |

The art and lettering are spot on. And the little bit of dialogue I was able to ingest were fine. I just wish Burton would've added a bit more commentary here and there. Other than that, I can totally recommend this one. |

The colors used here really set the mood. I am enjoying this sci-fi who did it mash up of a book. Mind you, I’m not into who did it type books, and that’s why I can recommend it. If I loved it, I know you will too! |

A plot to kill Redum is a foot! And with only three issues left I have more questions than ever. We are half way into the series and the pile gets larger and larger, I’m loving it. Thomas Mauer’s lettering is amazing, the hints of the Atlantean language here and there are a very nice touch. I can stare at these beautiful pages forever. |

Two more issues and it all comes to an end. The pace is perfect. This book's gonna end with a bang! Of all 4 issues this one's definitely my favorite. Artyom's art really complimented the dialogue; especially in the camp fire scenes. There's a very special attention to detail in this series, not once has the art ever lacked. I think that says a lot about Artyoms abilities. |

This is easily one of the strongest Bat titles out there, with an amazing strong writing team. It would be nice if the super talented art team could match too. |

This story is very well written with some smart dialogue. The art is absolutely fantastic too. About the only thing I didn't like was the lettering. The lettering wasn't bad, it just".. I felt that it could have been better. It felt a bit rushed. Other than that I can totally recommend this. |

When something familiar is made unfamiliar one of two things can happen. It's either going to be terrible, or it's going to be awesome. JL3k rips our heroes out of the modern age we know and puts them in the future. In an unknown setting, with little resources and no Watchtower support. And this is working out very well, hell I'm ready to call this one of the best JLA books out there. But that might be because of all the shock and surprises. |

Robin Rises: Omega #1 |

It's been a while since I've seen "determined Batman" and man do I miss him. I can definitely recommend this book. The art was fantastic, so was the lettering and the story's pace was absolutely appropriate. We see Bruce Wayne, the grieving father and as a father myself I can relate to the actions he has taken for his son. |

The art style changed a bit, you will notice that right away. But still, itis as fantastic as it was last week. I recommending this one guys, go snag it up. I’m giving it 7 stars, and that’s because the fan in me is a wee bit upset. Falcone and Gordon was completely not shown here, I felt that was a lost opportunity. |

It seems as if we won't be receiving more than a taste of each main story. I want to know how Gordons doing, is Vale ok, hows Batgirl etc etc. And it’s something the writers won't entertain. A bummer, but it’s ok. I am thoroughly enjoying the series but I will admit, the addition of the Spectre and Batwing have me worried about future cohesion. A tree only splits into so many branches. |

I can recommend this series, but it’s getting a low score because of the lack of any uniformity in the art. It just has never been as obvious as it was here in issue 8. And it's a damn shame, the story and dialogue are so solid! Hopefully #9's art brings things back to par. |

The book wasn't bad. It just wasn't as good as it should have been. I'm kinda thinking DC bit off a lot more than they should have here, that's what they're making me believe at least. The art has been all over the place, it's just not doing the story any justice. It's a lost opportunity. Hence the low score, it's because of the art. In the comic medium, visiualizations carry the story that was written. Panel to panel. And I'm so worried about this series, the art's getting worse. Hopefully #11 fixes things. |

Spider-Man 2099 (2014) #1 |
Jul 9, 2014 |
Also, we really don't see much of Miguel. It’s all Spidey. The beginning of the book was a crazy crash course into Spidey’s origin. And thats cool and all, but a first issue has a lot of responsibilities. I don’t feel that it set the foundation that it needed. And it really pains me to admit that. This issue was forced and rushed, that’s what it felt like at least. It tried, but terribly missed the mark. |
