Does that mean this is not worth reading? No, not in the least. The final page of this issue boasts some of the best cartooning and eye-popping art I have seen in an x-title in a very long time. I think this a comic everyone should be checking out, even if some of the character interaction is hard to follow or appreciate for new readers. I trust Bendis and thus I trust this title. It is going somewhere special and any good X-fan should give it a chance.

Animal Man is a book you need to be reading; there is no other way of putting that. It is written by a man whose career is only going to get bigger from here. It is penciled a solid industry vet, and is just a great book altogether. We are certainly ramping up to something big with the Rotworld event, and I can only imagine that it is going to get better from here. While I can’t say that it is the best thing I have ever read from DC Comics, I can without question say that is one the best things DC is currently publishing.

So let me borrow a page from Ferris Bueller’s book: Why are you still here? The review is over, go home! Read Batman! I promise, you won’t regret it.

I can’t say that Captain America is a must read, nor can I say that you should unequivocally pass on it. I am certain there will be people out there who enjoy it much more than I did. Unfortunately, the first issue just left me very unimpressed and wishing Remender and crew had taken this in a different direction. Hopefully the second issue improves because while there were a lot of missteps here, there is a lot of promise as well.

I know this is a long review, but I have not even said half of what I would like to say about Kot and Jeske’s effort on the fist issue of Change. If you skip the rest of overly verbose review please at least read this little bit: read Change! This is the start of something absolutely amazing and I can promise you, you are going to be on board from the word, “go.” Give Ales Kot and Morgan Jeske a chance with this first issue of Change. They deserve it.

Detective Comics sixteen is a perfect late pickup for those of you who missed it this past Wednesday.

Fraction’s Hawkeye is an absolute “can’t miss” series, and this issue is a perfect jumping on point for new readers. I very rarely will trot out the cliché that a writer is doing something special, but it is now absolutely clear that is exactly what is going on here. This is the perfect book for anyone looking to get away from the gigantic crossovers and book spanning events that are synonymous without superhero books right now, but still wants to read a cape and cowl book. Beyond that, it is just good comic booking. Stellar writing, unique art, and wonderful lettering all add up to make this one of the best books on the shelf right now.

If you’re one of the many readers who usually waits for trade paper back compilations for Invincible, I would highly suggest that you make the switch to floppies in time for issue 100. I think these next three issues are going to be some of Robert Kirkman’s best work he has ever done and will be something you’ll regret missing in monthly format.

If it isn’t apparent yet, I cannot say enough good things about this book. It is exactly the beginning we needed to a new era in Journey into Mystery. Not to be hyperbolic, but if you fail to give this first issue a chance, then you don’t like comic books. It’s that simple. This is story telling of the highest quality and art like you won’t see in any other Marvel titles to say the least. Give it a shot. For Asgard.

While issue eight may not be the best jumping on point for new readers, take this review as a notice: we are a collected edition and a few issues into something really special and this issue only continued that trend. Jump into to one of the most consistent and fun comic books on the stands next month with issue nine.

This is comic book history in the making folks, don’t miss out.

I challenge you, even if you are not a fan and have not been following Li'l Depressed Boy, to read this issue and not smile as LDB and Spike hold hands or gasp audibly at the reveal on the final page.

I have incredibly high hopes for where Kirkman is talking our favorite survivor epic going forward. It is absolutely clear that Kirkman is going to wrestle with these moral questions in the upcoming issues, and I for one, cannot wait to be a part of that experience

If you passed on the first issue of Aaron and Ribic’s Thor, do not worry about it. You heard me right. Do not worry about chasing down the issue. Just get issue two. No matter what you do, get issue two. This is the cream of the crop as far as Marvel Now! is concerned and if you pass on Thor God of Thunder #2 you are missing out on one of the best efforts one of comic’s best creators has put forth to date.

Wolverine and the X-men is far and away the top of the X-line right now. It feels enough like a classic X-men comic to appease die hard old school fans, but has enough new, innovative content to draw in new uninitiated readers as well. This issue, while not the greatest of the series, is a perfect example of why I love Wolverine and the X-men and why it is always worth a look.
