Lank and Mal had very different relationships with Shepard, but his lessons to each of them may be critical for taking on the moral challenges of this world.
Will their individual bonds with Shepard Book bring them together, and bring Mal back into the world?
Firefly's main story takes a break as a much needed and far more engaging character-focused issue is born, and showcases what can be good about this series at times. Another art change on the series brings some really interesting work that has some really cool tricks and bold colors. It is a good story, but it contradicts continuity. One year ago Sheperd Book lives, while in the present Emma is several (about four) years old? It's really sloppy editing/writing. It should have been five years ago.
