When selkies hold Seafarin' Karen's boat hostage, the Lumberjanes will have to rely on the one person they aren't sure they trust: the Bear Woman.
This issue and arc of Lumberjanes continues to prove why it is one of the most consistently great comics out there today. Even when it isnt doing a deep story dive with its adventures, the comic is still about spotlighting the girls and expanding their characters in small ways. Kat Leyh has been finding her footing with the characters more with each passing issue and Pietschs art in this issue is so wonderfully expressive. It will be exciting to see how this arc continues next month with the boat caught in a storm of portals and Molly and Ripley stuck with a grumpy Bear Woman in a dinosaur dimension. Read Full Review
As a series, Lumberjanes' ability to highlight real issues - friendship, compassion, teamwork - against a fantastical setting has consistently made it a favorite to fans and critics alike. And it's that lack of something more that ultimately holds issue #22 back. Read Full Review
It's nice to see the girls splitting up a bit and having separate adventures. But it does make the book feel a little disjointed. Ideally, the next issue will see Seafarin' Karen, the girls, and the selkies meeting up with Molly, Ripley, and Bear Woman in the other dimension. But I guess we'll just have to wait and see.
