With as much history as there is here, and the time between installments, getting into Crimson Empire again can definitely be a challenge. But with what came before, there's likely to be some solid payoff to it in the least as it progresses, and I liked getting back in touch with this particular characters again. Read Full Review
Many Star Wars fans know the Imperial Guards were a tough group of soldiers. With the previous Crimson Empire stories, the final surviving guard, Kir Kanos is determined to get revenge against all that had a had in the death of Emperor Palpatine. While many Star Wars comics don't always feature the main cast, this mini-series is bringing Kanos up against Luke and Leia as he prepares the final phase of his revenge. Readers that might have missed the previous Crimson Empire comics (since they came out over a decade ago) can still easily jump into this series as the real action is about to begin. For readers of the novels taking place well after this time period, it's a little hard to worry about whether or not characters will live or die. But it's great to see a new Star Wars comic featuring the characters we are familiar with. And it's really great to finally see the return of the last Imperial Guardsman. Read Full Review
A few choice cameos and nods to fans make for an enjoyable experience, and the action and intrigue are enough to bring me back for a second issue, but it'll have to be an impressive second issue. At the very least the painted covers will make sweet posters. Read Full Review
The dramatic slope of this issue remains relatively flat from one end to the other, but it functions adequately to establish the setting and to introduce the characters. We're teased with brief flurries of combat from both bounty hunters and Jedi as well as a cameo by one of Kenix Kil's most popular colleagues, but there aren't any truly memorable moments to be found here. The New Republic era has had some time to air out since the deluge of Expanded Universe content in the 90's, and I'm optimistic that this series will be highly enjoyable when it kicks into gear.
