The winter holidays are upon us and the kids of Hawkins are in full spirit. As they recall stories from their childhood to teach Eleven about Christmas, tensions run high when Dustin swears he saw something lurking in the forest outside.
This entire book, much like the series, is about not being afraid to borrow beloved plot points or tropes to create a fresh experience, while also offering glimpses of entirely original concepts. Add to that the fact that Stranger Things hasn't fully embraced any winter holidays, this book will be a must-read for fans of the series or genre enthusiasts who appreciate unconventional and holiday-related twists in otherwise horrifying adventures. Holiday specials should be fun, but as with those referenced in this tale, they also must draw us in with a larger plot, characterization and a message that emerges from the story itself. All of this seems to be missing here. Read Full Review
