The finale to the battle with the Legion of Super-Villains! And like many of the Legion's past encounters with their villainous counterparts, one Legionnaire will not survive it!
For the final issue of Legion of Super-Heroes, Paul Levitz devises a short but tight two-step of a story. The themes are eminently familiar, but the somewhat peculiar details of how the plot plays out give the tale enough of a feeling of freshness to make it memorable. On the down side, this was kind of predictable. The outsider who no one liked (save Shady) gave his life for the team, showing he was really a hero. The build up of this story made it seem like something truly cataclysmic was coming, and it didn't happen. Earth-Man's death was predicted by most fans, and every time the Legion fights the LSV, a Legionnaire dies. It's almost as bad as Flashes during Crisis events. Read Full Review
This wasn't the ending I'd hoped for with "Legion of Super-Heroes." After the last issue raced through its pages, I found myself wishing that it was only hurried there so we could have a strong conclusion. Turns out the race had only just begun. With a few more issues, this storyline could have worked well. Instead? It bears a striking similarity to a lot of rushed conclusions from DC Comics this month. And she closes out the book with some pretty heavy prose about faith, wisdom, and will and how they will always help good defeat evil. I am a Legion fan. I will check out the Legion titles in the DCnU. But I just think that this arc, this run of the Legion ended with a whimper and not a bang. I still have a lot of questions about pretty much everything. And that doesn't feel right. Read Full Review
Levitz isn't a bad writer by any means, but given all the plothooks set up by the Action Comics run and Legion of 3 Worlds, they could have done so much more. Read Full Review
