Lady Rawhide returns in an all-new adventure! This time, she faces not only the corrupt forces of the government -- bent on cowing the populace through privation and cruelty -- but also a new team of vigilantes: The Sisters of the White Rose. The Sisters, inspired by Lady Rawhide's actions, have taken up the struggle against tyranny. Although she supports the Sisters' aims, Lady Rawhide is forced to stand against their bloody methods
Enjoyable story and art, but the coloring and lettering are pulling it down. Read Full Review
Lady Rawhide's intentions are just fight for the poor and rebel against the corrupt government. Maybe the idea isn't anything new but Trautmann tells a great tell in a world where there isn't enough cowboy hat bandana wearing bandits packing six shooters. Not only will Rawhide face off against the local Mexican authorities it seems as if she might be posed to face off against a ruthless gang of female bandits. Lady Rawhide isn't the best book of the week but its a great solid read for a western book. If you're looking for something new to check out then I can definitely recommend Lady Rawhide #1 by Dynamite. Issue #2 will be on my pick up list. Read Full Review
The art on this comic isn't too bad. Everyone looks fine, the action is great, the scenery and settings are decent, I like the use of sepia tone for the flashback panels, and character expression is solid. I personally question the hell out of how comfortable Lady Rawhide's outfit and why she thought "prostitute" would be a good look (hey, it's the time period. Why wouldn't someone think that then?). Also, there are very questionable poses (like how much can a woman's spine bend like that for instant) and I do like how this woman was able to hide her long luscious hair with a simple bandana. Lady Rawhide is a great new introduction to the character. Trautmann gets all the essential first issue things out of the way and sets up a story with a lot of potential. Read Full Review
Overall Lady Rawhide #1 is a completely average read. Lacking any form of challenge for readers, or even a new creative approach towards Lady Rawhide herself (beyond T&A with a whip), this is yet another entry in Dynamite's already extensive list of brainless reads. Given the momentum the publishing house is taking towards pulling in bigger names and pushing for higher quality, this move towards higher quality seems more and more like a smokescreen. The fact is, while Trautmann has come up with a more-than-serviceable plot here, there's still an upper limit on what we can expect from the umpteenth vigilante-versus-corrupt-power-structure story, and such pleasure as the reader might derive from that is just not enough to overcome the needless pandering in the visuals. I'm scoring this comic based on the technical merits of its strongest points, but in fact, I can't honestly say that I'd recommend it at all, given the better options available in a crowded marketplace— more than a few of which, by the way, feature female protagonists who don't appear to do their adventuring as underwear models.
