In the penultimate issue of the all-star anthology series celebrating the 45th anniversary of Vampirella's creation, every fang-boy's favorite pin-up ghoul is (un)dressed for success in "The Vampire(r)s New Clothes" by Stuart Moore (Firestorm, Namor: The First Mutant). Vampirella then goes on to find herself in a very sticky situation in "Hard By A Great Forest" by Eric Trautmann (Checkmate, Lady Rawhide), while Nancy A. Collins (Swamp Thing, Sunglasses After Dark) has her learning more about her mysterious blonde doppelganger.
While there is a bit of a hit or miss aspect to anthology style stories like this, this issue is largely on the hit side for me, including the connective tissue pieces that transport us from one fairy tale to another. Sometimes those can be a bit much with the humor that the Storyteller uses, but the whole gingerbread man cookie world just had me begging for a one-shot story of just that world and the kind of chaos that could come from it. The first story is one that plays well in shaking up where you think it will go once you know the truth of it all and I liked the mild reworking of the Hansel and Gretel story as well. For a collaborative project this didnt suffer at all from too many writers syndrome. Each anthology story managed to cohesively connect to one another, and flowed like it was just one big story as it should be. Read Full Review
