Fanlight Zone - Ken M.
Jul 01, 2026Readers get some answers pertaining to why Jessica is paired with young Al. The reveal is cleaver as it’s presented in such a devious way. This works to apply more pressure for Jessica to work through. Once events calm down, her talk with Al breaks away from any mission and allows them to have a moment of normalcy. The writing locks in on some fun time-displaced areas before ramping back into danger. This builds into an explosive final act. Jessica’s grasp of the situation takes a fast detour into the unknown. Judging by the closing panel, any change of keeping her word might have went up in flames. Read Full Review

Pretty solid read, once again. I was surprised at the amount of material/commentary/etc. about the real-life comics world, particularly that of the beginning of Image in the early 1990s. I'm not super familiar with how the shared Image Universe works (with characters like Spawn, Savage Dragon, Youngblood, etc.), but it's a bit weird that Spawn's existence as a comic character in their universe...predates Al Simmons becoming Spawn in said universe? If there's someone a lot more familiar with the universe that can explain, that would be super cool. If you've read my reviews of the first issue of this book and/or my reviews of Matthew Rosenberg's first issues of Spawn and King Spawn, you'll know that my Spawn knowledge is incredibly limited.
