NEW CREATIVE TEAM! BOLD NEW DIRECTION!
"THE CRACK IN EVERYTHING", PART 1
Hot on the heels of THE DARKNESS II video game release, Top Cow proudly welcomes the new creative team of DAVID HINE (THE DARKNESS: FOUR HORSEMEN, THE BULLETPROOF COFFIN) and JEREMY HAUN (ARTIFACTS, BATTLE HYMN, Detective Comics)! On the surface, Jackie Estacado has everything he ever wanted - control of the Darkness, a successful career, and happy family life. Only his desire to make his life truly perfect will be his undoing.

Readers of THE DARKNESS were saddened by the end of Hester's run. Does David Hine have what it takes to take over? Based on this issue, it's a strong heart-felt yes. I was a tiny bit skeptical when I first heard about Rebirth as a way to softly reboot the Top Cow universe. This issue proves that it was an idea that could work. This is a good jumping on point. Everything is new yet still completely familiar to long time readers. Jackie's making some pretty bold and crazy decisions. THE DARKNESS is definitely a book to keep an eye on. I can't wait to see how Hine will follow up this issue. Read Full Review

For being a complete newbie to The Darkness in comic form, The Darkness #101 did a good job making me care about the drama on the page. Here's hoping the series continues to be this emotional while still being fairly welcoming for new readers looking to get in on the sadistic action. Read Full Review

"The Darkness" #101 is a decent start for the next stage of one of Image's mainstays. The cliffhanger is not unexpected, but it certainly seems to have packed the most amount of drama possible into the conclusion of this issue. Hine and Haun clearly have a plan and Jackie Estacado's life will never be the same again. Read Full Review

I was surprised by The Darkness this month. It feels like a book full of possibility. Fans of almost any genre will find something to like here: we touch on superheroes, crime, horror, and Michael Moorcock's Elric stories. In fact, Estacado himself reminds me of Elric quite a bit, and The Darkness itself Stormbringer. Here's hoping that, like Elric, Jackie Estacado will be able to swim in the soup of genres that his creators have placed him in and finally reach his potential. But the emphasis here is on possibility. This issue's merits are many, but it's not quite a homerun on its own. Still, it's enough to bait the breath for further issues, and that's quite something.
