It's hard to judge this book because there is so much that will come afterwards that we do not yet know. How will this change Estacado? What will happen to him and will he be able to maintain control of "the darkness"? The repercussions of the events in this issue are needed to fully judge the issue as a whole, but from what I read this was definitely a great way to end Phil Hester's fantastic run on the character. I actually did enjoy this book, and I would recommend at least checking it out. But when it comes to new fans wanting a fresh start, #101 is a much better jumping on point; but more on that later. Read Full Review
One last similarity Darkness #100 shares with Witchblade #150 is the $4.99 price tag without much significant bonus material. Included is a preview of issue #101, brief interviews with the new creative team, a thumbnail-sized cover gallery, a Darkness timeline, results of an art contest, and a "creator hall of fame." It sounds like a lot of content in theory, but in practice it's all filler that does little more than jack up the price tag. Overall, The Darkness #100 is a solid conclusion to the longest run in the title's history, but newcomers needn't apply here. Read Full Review
Phil Hester's writing in and of itself was not enough to save this issue of "The Darkness" which suffered from a lack of direction in overall purpose and shallow in visual spectacle. There were more than six variant covers for this comic to the twenty pages of lead story. Unfortunately, as the saying goes, "You can't judge a book by its cover." Never has that been truer.
