Comics Bulletin - Paul Dale Roberts

    Jun 09, 2003

As I go through my latest edition of Comic Effect, I am humbled by the superb reviews of the publisher himself....no other than Jim Kingman! He talks about DC's Kong, Beowulf, Stalker, Hercules Unbound, Super-Team Family, All Star Super Squad, The New Blackhawk, Codename: Assassin. All of the reviews are filled with exciting details! Then Mike Hall takes over with Zatanna. Other features: War Story: Condors Vertigo/DC by Jim Kingman; Lucifer #36 by Jim Kingman; The Ultimates. Volume One: "Superhuman" Marvel Comics by Mike Hall; Batman #139 by Dan Beck; The Essential Thor: Volume One by Mike Hall; Superman's Pal, Jimmy Olsen #122 by Steve Chung; Star Trek #58 by Robert Andres. Tiger-Man: Whew!! That is a lot of reviews!! Where is my popcorn, I'm kicking back and reading each and every one of them! Read Full Review

    Comics Bulletin - Craig Lemon

In conclusion, the book is a mixture of Silver Age nostalgia and modern reviews; this dichotomy is uneasy at the best of times, it feels that someone who'd enjoy one segment might not get as much out of the other...surely there's a place for two magazines, one covering each topic in greater detail? Having said that, if you're a Silver Age buff, consider this a book and an essential purchase - if you're more of a modernist like myself, consider this carefully - $3.50 is not a huge price to pay for some decent articles, and you might just get a kick out of the Atlas debacle too.
