As the lone Astonishing arc under Greg Pak's pen comes to a close in issue #47, it's readily apparent that my misgivings about the story were unfounded. Pak has worked yet another engaging tale, bursting with great character moments, and McKone has made the process of translating Pak's layered concepts to the page look easy. As arcs go, it's certainly not terrible and the call-back to Ellis' run makes this an "Astonishing X-Men" story as far as one can be -- but again, it's not really clear what the book is doing with itself. It's nice to see Cyclops getting an effectively solo adventure -- but is that the kind of story this title is for? Read Full Review
