If anything, the Invaders represent how far Marvel has damaged itself irreparably. They represent how far the mirror universe Avengers have strayed from the concept of heroism. Read Full Review
Avengers/Invaders #1 was a solid debut issue. Krueger does a good job introducing newer readers to the Invaders and giving us a little bit of back-story. Now that Krueger has laid the foundation for this story I am excited to see what Krueger has in store of us with the rest of this story. Read Full Review
In essence, Avengers/Invaders #1 is the sort of thing you know you'll dig before you even open the first issue. As a fan who's thoroughly preoccupied with the late '80s Marvel and later, this sort of thing doesn't exactly push my buttons in any noticeable way. Flip through it and see if it catches your interest, but just be aware that this first issue probably won't drum up much enthusiasm that's not already there. Read Full Review
In the end, though, I'm probably going to skip it and wait for the trade, just because I'm a cheap bastard. If I was flush with cash I'd drop some coin on this without hesitation, since even though some of the basic conceits of the story are kind of silly and don't really stand up to scrutiny, there are some very nice situations and relationships in play that look like they'll be very satisfying down the line. The Twelve is doing great things with the “heroes in the wrong time period” story by putting a premium on personality, emotion, and subtlety. Avengers/Invaders, on the other hand, seems to be much more concerned with the chaos of the event as a whole. It will be interesting to see where the creative team goes from here, but I am honestly disappointed how things went off the rails after such a solid start to the story. Read Full Review
