Full of the wit and charm we've come to expect from Immonen, this is a fun issue with clever dialogue and plenty of action. Pepe Larraz's art is joyous and energetic, just as an Asgardian interpretation of an old fairy tale should be. Jordie Bellaire's colors are a saturated, vivid delight without verging into saccharine territory. This issue of Journey Into Mystery is a nice respite from the multi-issue arcs that dominate monthly comics. In the coloring department, we still see the overly talented Jordie Bellaire who once more manages to brighten up this gorgeous book with her nuanced, yet wisely chosen colors. Here, there is a predominance of cold colors, as it is a story set during the night. As such, there is a whole plethora of blue, grey, green and other such colder colors set against the warmer colors of some of the characters attire or the low amount of lighting. It does amount to a gorgeous type of contrast that fits the book well. The dissatisfying conclusion set aside, this book still got it as the pinpoint characterization, the use of Norse mythology and the sense of fun is still strong while the art remains consistently excellent. This issue is a prime example of why this series is just great and why Kathryn Immonen was a perfect fit to take over from Kieron Gillen. It's just a really simple fun and adventure story that doesn't come piled with any backstory or any convoluted comic book-ness that could keep new readers from fully enjoying the issue. Literally anyone could pick this book up and enjoy the story within and that is entirely down to the creative team and their deft handling of the story and the characters. Despite a decent story from Immonen, the book badly misses both Schiti's art and Sif's star power, further proving what a dream team of creators and character they truly are. If anything, "Journey Into Mystery" #651 has reminded me how much I generally enjoy this book, how consistently stunning it has been and how much I hope the creative team gets the opportunity to continue cranking out delicious tales.
