An individual's perception of Spider-Man is a very personal thing. To six-year-old Jamal, growing up in the mean streets, the web-slinger is very personal indeed. And what do you think would happen when he finally gets a chance to meet his idol?

That's how you make a good Spider-Man story about African Americans, not by replacing Peter Parker with Miles Morales. That's what Stan Lee meant about the thing that anyone can imagine themselves under the mask. "Imagine" is the key word. Yeah, that was a really good comic. I'm just kinda sad for the boy, he didn't even really meet Spidey and only imagined him. And him imagining Spidey talking to him was the only good thing is his life... At least before his idiot junkie mom died and some actually good people could come in her stead. I love such stories without even the actual Spidey in it. It really makes you understand how many people Spider-Man affects only by his very existence.
