Weekly Comic Book Review - Kyle Posluszny Dec 15, 2008

The start of an exceptional, visually superb adaptation of a classic, The Wonderful Wizard of Oz #1 easily ranks as one of the best comics of the year. This is one of those rare times I have absolutely no qualms with recommending a $3.99 comic book. It is worth every penny. Read Full Review

    IGN - Richard George Dec 10, 2008

The Wonderful Wizard of Oz could have been a capable and faithful translation of a classic story. That's all it really needed to be. While the writing certainly is just that, the art team really runs wild, delivering one of the finest visual experiences of the year. And it's likely that, with seven issues to go, things will only get better from here. Marvel's endeavors with its adaptations have been quite outstanding; Oz is yet another example of this publisher growing its business and doing it in a way that is both respectful and incredibly entertaining. The Weekly Crisis - Ryan Schrodt Oct 7, 2009

. As a long time fan of the L. Frank Baum's Oz "franchise," I really appreciate the reverence and respect that this adaptation pays to the original source material. Eric Shanower goes to great lengths to be faithful to the original story while still remaining accessible to readers who may be discovering the Land of Oz for the first time. The highlight of the book, however, is Skottie Young's simply amazing artwork. His designs perfectly capture the wonder and whimsy of the story with a completely unique twist that should be considered the new standard for how the characters and the world they inhabit should be presented. I've loved Judy Garland's performance since I was a child, but I'll take Young's energetic and lively Dorothy Gale over all others any day. Whether you are a diehard of the original literature, a fan of the 1939 film, or a newcomer to the Land of Oz, this adaption is required reading. Read Full Review

Comic Book Resources - Augie De Blieck Jr. Dec 30, 2009

"The Wonderful Wizard of Oz" beat a lot of my preconceptions to become one of my favorite comics of 2009. You can thank Shanower's faithful storytelling and bits of art direction, along with Skottie Young's career-best artwork for that. The world of comics needs more books like this one, and I'm thrilled that a second mini-series is being published right now. Perhaps we'll return to talk about that hardcover collection at this time next year. Read Full Review
