The Black Cat is back!! What secret does Mysterio hold from the Kingpin's past that will start a turf war across all of New York? And what does it have to do with poor Peter Parker? Speaking of poor Parker, his afterschool super hero training starts right here!! First teacher...Iron Man!!
So, not a bad issue, but not a great one - we're spoiled by so many great comics in this series that an average issue like this one feels like a let-down. But I still say this is the best Spider-Man comic on the stands. Read Full Review
The other half of this issue is a bit disappointing in that Peter's after-school training session is essentially pushed off for another month. In its place is an extended sequence between Peter and Gwen. Compared to similar heartfelt chats between Peter and MJ way back in issue #13, or Peter and Aunt May after the Clone Saga, this one feels a tad formulaic and unmemorable. Lafuente's art doesn't manage to frame the exchange in a particularly engaging way either. Maybe the series is simply suffering from offering one too many "down time" issues in a row. At this point, it would be more interesting to see Peter pick a girlfriend and stick to her for a while. But if he's due to be killed off this summer, maybe it doesn't really matter in the end. Whatever "Death of Spider-Man" actually holds in store, lets hope it injects a little bit more life into the book going forward. Read Full Review
Undoubtedly, the twain shall eventually meet, but, for now, were left playing the waiting game. Its a scheme that puts the presence of two vividly distinct artists to good use, but it also creates a schism that undermines the cohesiveness of the comic when considered as a single issue. Ill happily take either Pichelli or Lafuente as my Ultimate Spider-Man artist, but hopefully in the future theyll come one at a time. Read Full Review
Ultimate Spider-Man #152 was one of the most disappointing issues that Brian Bendis has given us on this title. Ultimate Spider-Man has always been a comic that I look forward to reading each month as it has been one the few titles that has been consistently good in its 150+ issue life span. It is rare for me not to enjoy an issue of this title, but this was one of those times. The plotting and pacing of this issue actually killed my interest in the current story arc. This is definitely an issue that you can pass on buying as absolutely nothing happened in the issue. Readers can skip Ultimate Spider-Man #152 and still be able to read the next issue with no problem. Hopefully, Bendis will be able to turn things around in the next issue. Read Full Review
