Gotham By Midnight is a series predicated by it's tone; a dark, subtle, gritty feel that conveys the semi-futile mission Gotham City Police Precinct 13 dedicates themselves to undertaking. Ray Templesmith's artwork for issues one through five was absolutely perfect, and Juan Ferreyra has made his own distinct and ultimately phenomenal mark on the series in only two issues. Unfortunately, Christian Duce's atrocious artwork in Gotham By Midnight Annual #1 completely and utterly destroys the mood of a somewhat great comic book. Specifically, Jim Corrigan goes from looking like Tommy Lee Jones to a ginger John Constantine and back again, sometimes on the same page. Overall, Duce's style is a huge letdown after every prior issue looking so much better. The story is nothing to write home about, and the new Gentleman Ghost is mediocre at best, forgettable at worst. Gotham By Midnight is one of the best series DC is currently publishing, but this Annual is a huge misstep. SCORE: 4/10 Read Full Review
