Silva describes herself as a visual storyteller rather than a comic creator or graphic novelist, and I was ultimately disappointed by a comic which read more like a storyboard. Silvas artwork is cute, but theres not much to it her backgrounds lack the detail of manga or the quirkiness of western indies like Ghost World. The most interesting aspect of this debut is its unusual birth. Into the Shadow came about in a way that were sure to see more of in the future the crowd-sourced comic. With an idea and determination, Silva lacked the funding to complete and print her comic. So she did what we all do in times of need, and turned to the internet. Uploading a video to the website Kickstarter explaining her project and setting a fundraising goal, she engaged sympathetic souls to help her out and sponsor the creation of the comic. And it worked.
