While the cabal continue their seemingly motiveless murder spree, Tom researches his father's journals to uncover the secret connections between Wilson Taylor and his deadliest enemy, Pullman as well as a hint at an eighty-year-old atrocity that could be a clue to Tom's own nature and origins!
Peter Gross delivers his usual fine-tipped, detailed work here, but also gets to play around a bit with layouts and styles thanks to the sequences starring the pulp hero The Tinker. Carey also presents Wilson's narrative somewhat as an ill-fated hardboiled detective story, so Gross takes that to heart and plays up noir elements through his choice of angle, use of shadow, and the grainy colors of Chris Chuckry. In all, The Unwritten #28 amounts to another well-told chapter of the ever expanding journey through the seedy underbelly of literature. Read Full Review
A good issue, but this series has been carrying these mysteries for a long time. It may be unfair, but it is easy to feel shorted by any issue that isn't paying off some of the mysteries. I'm sure it will read wonderfully in collected editions, but it wouldn't hurt to put a little more consideration into making the single issues a meatier read. Read Full Review
