Belle "Anabelle" DiMarco is a hunter of beasts and protector of our world from threats unknown to the general masses-a covenant made by her family generations long ago. But when one of the world's most ancient creatures, already familiar with the taste of Belle's bloodline, gets a hold of her scent there will be no stopping the carnage left behind in its path to the hero.
Xaviers art can feel a little bit stiff in places, but the dialogue is crisp and occasionally quite witty. And theres a slaying scene involving a decapitation towards the end of the book that has got to be one of the more dramatic and graphic deaths on the comic book rack so far this year. The complex emotional dynamic that Xavier nails in that one panel is positively haunting. Belle might feel a bit generically superheroic on the surface, but Franchini and company make her engaging and relatable enough to hold her own regular series. Read Full Review
BELLE: ANCIENT INSTINCTS takes a break from the Year of Lovecraft with an oversized-yet-standard monster-hunting story sending Belle off against the first werewolf. Theres plenty of action and more than plenty of Belles trademark chattiness, but theres a little too much fluff padding out a standard monster-hunting issue. Read Full Review
