This is what this issue boil down to. With so much talk and so little action or implementation of interesting concepts, this story doesn't really go anywhere. Generally while I give a free pass to most artists as long as it doesn't interfere with the story, that is not the case here either, as the flat coloring makes everything seem very two-dimensional, not a good thing when the characters are already two-dimensional enough as it is. It ends up being disappointing, as all the pieces to succeed are here, just they are mostly wasted, leaving both the characters and the readers without a solid direction to go in. Read Full Review
Overall, I have read Realm War #5 multiple times and I still cannot follow exactly what is happening. I have no clue who Payne is supposed to be, I only figured out the Robyn switched teams recently, and nobody knows her motivations for doing so. Characters have interactions but they lead to basically nowhere. I felt like the story refused to progress at all, we got one extremely important piece of information, but even that felt tedious. And the drama between Sela and Frost seems to be" static. And yes, I have read the first four issues of Realm War, I even read Grimm Fairy Tales #100, to do a little research, and I found little for answers, only more questions. I want to get into this story, but it seems like I'd have to study up from the beginning to understand what is happening now. This barrier makes not only Realm War #5 confusing, it also throws the entire series into a chaotic muddiness of back story that is not provided for new readers. Read Full Review
