RIP Big Gary Slaughter that was one hell of a loss. Especially after we learned about him and from him in the last volume. The Dragon bringing in a black as from a different house raises the question how much the House of Slaughter has neglected their own black masks. I understand the black mask are lone hunters but as of right now their peak was just 3 masks, 4 if you count the older lady. Why has this house failed to raise or growth black masks? All the others seem to have numbers...
As expected, this arc does not carry the magic that the previous arc had is still pretty good, which is a testament to how good the fundamentals of the writing of the series are. Even if the mystique of the world is already pretty much gone, and having in mind that this is a slight rehash of the first arc, just with more info in, just the storytelling is cool and good, as well as the symbiosis of art, the pacing. Some moments do not carry the same weight and excitement, sure, but the characters still feel alive, the art, the paneling feel inspired, serving the characters well. Some stand out as the Gaby, she is something I am looking forward most definitely and to see how her trauma unfolds and where that would go. Still, everything feels more standardized. If you go past that, it's a blander copy(copy in a broader sense) of what we saw before; this is perfectly serviceable art. At least IMO
