I'm optimistic. I think they did a decent job of hitting their target (90s X-Men + Invincible violence) and I'll be grabbing issue 2. It wasn't perfect but I like the team around it, slated as an ongoing series (I've had my fill of short runs), and the writing is better than 90% of anything coming from Marvel. If this is the new X-Men, so be it.
