He's back! It's been far too long since we've seen the Protector of Hell's Kitchen, and his return did not disappoint. In the past decade it seems Matt Murdock's had a career in almost everything, Defense Attorney, Celebrity, A.D.A, Leader Of the Fist, and Priest; But Phillips introduces us to yet another new career: Law Professor.
Matt still faces the challenge of needing to win over
crowds, but in a different and perhaps more vicious arena then the Courtroom: the Classroom. Here he's faced with Law Students less than half his age who would much rather prefer goofing off on their laptops than taking notes in class.
A recurring topic I noticed throughout the issue, was Matt beginning to feel his age and as if he'd become an old man. It's a point of speculation that Phillips may be setting Matt up to be going through a mid-life crisis through her run. Phillips really does seem to understand Murdock on a deep level, already plagued with doubts and wondering if the path he is on is stable enough to continue forward.
The one thing that kept me from giving this a perfect review was the absence of Elektra. At the conclusion of Ahmed's run, it seemed that the two Hornheads managed to repair their relationship, the development of which I was greatly looking forward to.
All in all, this was a solid introduction to a new run, and a nice shake-up of the status quo. Welcome back Hornhead!
